Chapter 2

I would be extremely anxious, chasing after him and bowing my head to plead for peace.

However, tonight, after taking a shower, the man found that I was still lying on the bed, motionless.

"Put on a show?"

Leaving this sentence behind, he left the master bedroom with a cold face and did not come again.

The next morning, I saw a red wine glass with lipstick stains on the coffee table in the living room.

I did not wake him up and ask him hysterical questions like I did before.

After frying the omelette, I just sat down at the table when I heard him woke up and said, "Don't wait for me for dinner tonight! There's a dinner party at the company."

The man opened the refrigerator and drank two gulps of ice water.

He suddenly found it strange that I neither complained to him that ice water was bad for his stomach, nor asked who was at the dinner party.

Through the kitchen glass, he frowned and looked at me.

"Michele, are you listening to me?"

After swallowing the food in my mouth, I let out a "hmm" and continued eating.

Seeing this, the man threw his black coat to me.

"A birthday gift for you."

The coat, which smelled of sweet perfume, covered my flat belly perfectly.

Under the man's gaze, I fished out a gift box from the coat pocket.

I opened the box and found a diamond ring inside.

Before I could say anything, Yeremiah snatched the ring back with a sullen face and said, "You got the wrong one. The one for you is on the other side."

The other pocket held the emerald brooch.

I only glanced at it and pushed it back to him, then politely said, "The brooch is beautiful, but unfortunately I don’t have any clothes to match it."

"Besides, it's already been three months since my birthday, so why don't you give it to Caitlin as well."

I was speechless for a while.

Yeremiah responded reluctantly, "There will be a jewelry auction in a few days. You can come with me."

That was the first time he asked me to be his female companion.

Over the past six months, Caitlin had been accompanying him to various events.

Even when they were on a yacht vacation together as childhood friends, the two of them appeared hand in hand in the group photo.

Thinking back to this, I felt it was completely uninteresting.

"No, I don't need anything."

"Are you sure?"

I nodded and said, "It's better to let Caitlin accompany you."

My sincere words were met with a sudden dark face from the man.

"Michele, go to the bathroom and look yourself in the mirror now."

"Take a good look at how ridiculous your jealous face is."

Back then, if he uttered those words, I would definitely have a big argument with him.

But right now, I was too lazy to argue even a word.

Just as I was about to get up and go back to my room, Yeremiah's mobile phone rang.

It was Caitlin's exclusive ringtone.

The girl cried and said she forgot her keys when she went out to throw away the garbage.

"What should I do, Yeremiah?"

"Little fool, stay where you are and don't run around. I'll come over and give you the key now."

After hanging up the phone, the man walked out.

I called out to him. "Yeremiah! The scarf you asked me to knit last week is already finished and hanging on the hanger. Don't forget to bring it to her."

His expression changed slightly.

His mouth moved, as if he was about to say something.

However, she sent another voice message.

Imitating a kitten meowing and asking its owner to bring a cup of milk tea when he came.

With that, he emptied the shopping paper bag hanging on the clothes hanger, put the scarf in and left with his mouth shut.

Taking a glance at the discarded baby clothes on the floor, I stood up and walked into the study.

I ignored the photo of Yeremiah and Caitlin on the mahogany table.

I reached for the safe with a clear goal.
