Chapter 4

It was already late at night when Vincent returned home.

As he met my calm gaze, he quickly turned his head away.

Then he pretended to be calm and said, "I'm sorry. I left in a hurry today. I'll celebrate your birthday with you next time."

"No need."

There wouldn't be a next time.

I would leave here soon.

"Wendy, why are you mad at me? I didn't mean it. Can you stop being so fussy like a little girl?"

"Am I really that old?" I suddenly interrupted him.

Vincent was stunned, with awkwardness on his face.

"You know I didn't mean that, Wendy. It's just a birthday. Do you want to quarrel with me?"

When I was just about to say that I didn't want to argue with him, Vincent suddenly became angry. "You have changed, Wendy. In the past, you were gentle and kind, but now you are picking on me because of a small matter.

"I hate that kind of woman the most. Wendy, you disappoint me."

After saying that, he walked into the study coldly.

I thought, "Who exactly has changed?

Vincent, you are angry because you feel guilty, right?"

In the past, every time Vincent got angry, I would coax him humbly and beg him to forgive me.

But now, I didn't want to coax him anymore.

Vincent waited all night but I didn't beg him. The next day, he looked unhappy.

There were dark circles under his eyes.

"Wendy, you didn't come to apologize to me for the whole night. Very good."

Vincent kicked the door open angrily.

Then he walked away before saying "You will regret it".

I didn't take him seriously at all and went straight to the company.

But soon, I received many messages.

In just one morning, Vincent spent 20 thousand dollars.

Lucy's Facebook was filled with photos of the gifts she received.

I chuckled and froze Vincent's card.

From now on, I would no longer let him spend my money.

[Wendy, you have been in a cold war with me for a whole day.]

At eight o'clock in the evening, Vincent sent me a message.

Basically, I had to send Vincent dozens of messages before he would reply to one.

[I'm drunk, come pick me up at the bar.]

Vincent suddenly sent me this message.

I continued packing my luggage indifferently.

Then I replied to him: [You are an adult, and you should be able to take care of yourself. You don't need me to pick you up.]

After sending that message, I didn't see Vincent for three days.

I was happy to have some peace and quiet, and I had almost completed the handover procedures at work.

Tonight, I suddenly received a phone call.

"Are you Wendy? Vincent drank too much. Can you come and talk to him?"

I was silent for a while and finally said, "Okay."

This was the last time I took care of Vincent's affairs, and it marked the end of my three years.

When I arrived at the bar box, I saw Vincent and Lucy at first sight.

The lights in the box were dim, and Vincent didn't see me.

"Vincent, since Wendy has treated you like that, why are you still thinking about her?

"Leave her and I will be your only girlfriend from now on. Isn't that good?"

This was the first time I met Lucy, who was indeed young and beautiful.

She was wearing the brand-name watch I gave to Vincent.

I found out that Vincent's watch was missing before, but he said that it was inconvenient to wear.

I didn't expect that he also gave it to Lucy.

Vincent said contemptuously, "Who cares about that old woman? I have always treated her as a free nanny. It won't be long before she comes back to beg for my forgiveness.

"But she put on airs for three days this time. I will never forgive her so easily."

I clenched my fists tightly.

I didn't expect that after three years of heartfelt dedication, he just treated me as a free nanny.

Under the instigation of Vincent's friends, Vincent hugged Lucy on his lap.

Then he pinched her chin and kissed her.

The atmosphere in the bar reached its climax at this moment. The harsh music accompanied by this eye-catching scene gave me a headache.

The lights flickered on and off. As Vincent let go of Lucy, he met my gaze the moment he looked up.

I saw Vincent's eyes widened in astonishment.

He pushed Lucy away instantly and then stood up.

"That's not the case. Wendy, please listen to my explanation..."

Lucy's eyes were filled with tears, and she said pitifully, "Are you Wendy? Please don't get us wrong. It's all my fault."

Vincent was still in the mood to rub Lucy's head soothingly.

"Don't cry, Lucy. This is none of your business."

I suddenly felt very tired.

Then I turned around and left without saying a word.

Vincent hurriedly chased after me.

With guilt in his eyes, he said, "I didn't lie to you. We were just playing truth or dare. Wendy, please don't misunderstand me, okay?"

"Okay."

Vincent was stunned. He didn't expect me to be so easy to coax.

He explained to me again, using up all his reasons.

But I found that my emotions were surprisingly stable, without even a trace of anger.

This was the result Vincent expected, but he still felt a strong sense of panic.

After returning home, he carefully pulled the corner of my clothes.

"Wendy, are you not angry anymore?"

"No."

"Then... can you make me spaghetti?"

In the past, I was best at making spaghetti.

Vincent liked to eat it very much.

For the past three years, whenever he wanted to eat it, I would cook it for him even if I had a high fever.

"Okay."

I walked towards the kitchen.

It was his last request before I left, and I didn't want to refuse it.

I would consider this as my last gift to him.

[Wendy, don't forget your flight tomorrow.]

After receiving the message from my leader, I replied: [Got it.]

Vincent suddenly asked in a panic, "What flight? Where are you going?"

"I'm on a business trip. Didn't I tell you before?"

Vincent breathed a sigh of relief, but he still stared at me closely.

At midnight, Vincent insisted that I stay with him before he could fall asleep.

He seemed suddenly to feel insecure.

"Wendy, you won't leave me, right?"

I said with great sincerity, "Yes."

After getting the promise, Vincent finally fell asleep peacefully.

At this moment, I was finally able to leave the room with the luggage that I had prepared long ago.

Before leaving, I put the printed photos of Lucy's Facebook posts on the table.

I also left a handwritten letter for Vincent.

I stated my views on his relationship with Lucy and gave my sincere blessings at the end of the letter.

"Vincent, goodbye."

I didn't want to see him again.
