Left My Billionaire Husband After Committed to Hospital

For two decades, I believed my marriage to Dave, a powerful CEO, was unbreakable—until I sacrificed my legs for him, and he vowed to cherish me forever. One night, I discovered him with a woman mirroring my younger self, and he confessed I no longer satisfied him. His mistress framed me as unstable, and Dave had me committed to a psychiatric hospital. Then Henry, the chairman, saw past my wheelchair—and I realized losing Dave might spark my ultimate revenge.

Chapter 2

The living room was dark save for the moonlight cutting across the wall above the mantle.

Framed in heavy gilded wood, our wedding portrait hung there. In the picture, I stood on my own two feet in a silk gown, laughing into Dave’s shoulder. He was looking at the camera with an expression everyone back then called pure devotion.

Now, sitting alone in my wheelchair in the center of the cold room, that look made my stomach heave.

Footsteps sounded on the hardwood stairs behind me.

"Sabrina." Dave’s voice was hoarse. He had pulled on sweatpants and a rumpled T-shirt, his hair sticking up in sweaty tufts. "Please. Come back upstairs. It’s freezing down here."

"Did you build the ramps for me, Dave?" I asked, keeping my eyes fixed on the photograph. "Or did you build them so the visitors would see what a dutiful husband you were?"

He stopped three paces behind my chair. "Don't talk like that. You know why I renovated this place. I wanted you comfortable. I wanted you to feel normal."

"Normal," I echoed, tasting the word. It was ash on my tongue. "Is that what you call this?"

Another set of feet stepped off the bottom riser. Bare soles padded against the floor.

"Oh, stop the pity party," a woman's voice cut in.

Victoria walked into the faint glow of the picture light, wearing Dave’s oversized gray cashmere sweater. In the bedroom upstairs, he had called her Chloe. Down here, stripped of the shadows, her posture was sharper, colder.

"Victoria, go back to the guest wing," Dave ordered, rounding on her with a tight scowl. "Now."

"Why should I?" Victoria leaned her shoulder against the doorframe, crossing her arms over her chest. "She already saw us. The masquerade is over, Dave. Stop playing the martyr."

"Get out!" he snarled.

"Make me," she said, raising an eyebrow at him. Then she turned that sharp, assessing gaze directly at me. "You think you're the only one who suffered through these years? Look at him, Sabrina. Look at his face."

I didn't turn to look at him. I couldn't tear my eyes away from the young girl in the portrait.

The memory hit me with the force of shattered glass. The smell of crushed metal and gasoline. The blinding high beams of that semi-truck ripping through the intersection. I hadn't hesitated. I had lunged across the gearshift, throwing my spine between Dave's chest and the crumpling door.

When I finally opened my eyes three weeks later in the ICU, my lower half was already dead flesh. Dave had knelt by the metal guardrails of my bed, burying his wet face in the hospital sheets, sobbing until he couldn't breathe.

*Sabrina, I owe you my life,* he had choked out, clutching my numb fingers against his cheeks. *I will spend every single day paying you back. I swear to God, I'll never leave you.*

And he hadn't left. He had carried me up staircases before the elevator was installed. He had learned how to zip my skirts, how to position the footrests so my ankles wouldn't swell, how to smooth blankets over limbs that couldn't feel his touch.

Every act of service had been a stitch binding me to him in profound gratitude.

I let out a harsh, cracked laugh. It tore out of my throat before I could stop it.

"What's funny?" Dave demanded, stepping closer, reaching out to grasp the backrest of my chair.

"You," I said, spinning the push rims hard to pivot away from his hands. "Every single ramp in this house. Every time you cut my food when my wrists were cramped. Every anniversary card. You weren't caring for a wife."

"Sabrina, that isn't true—"

"Shut up, Dave," Victoria interrupted, stepping boldly into the center of the room. She tossed her chestnut hair, the exact length and shade mine had been before the crash. "Tell her the truth. Or do you want me to read the texts out loud?"

Dave went rigid. "Victoria, I swear to God—"

"You think he stayed because he loved you?" Victoria smirked down at me, her dark eyes glittering with cruel amusement. "You think every time he held you in that bed, he was filled with passion? He felt trapped, Sabrina. He was terrified of what would happen if he walked away."

My hands tightened on the aluminum hand-rims until my knuckles went white. "Shut your mouth."

"Why? Because the truth hurts?" Victoria took another step forward, pointing an accusatory finger at Dave. "He stayed because he couldn't stomach the headline: *Golden Boy Abandons Paralyzed Hero Fiancée.* He was terrified the board would strip his seat. He was terrified his friends would spit on his shoes. He stayed because he was scared to death of looking like an ungrateful bastard."

The words struck like heavy hammers against my ribs.

I whipped my head toward Dave. "Is that true?"

Dave didn't answer right away. His jaw worked, muscles knotting and unknotting beneath his pale skin. He looked away, staring down at the Persian rug.

"Dave," I demanded, my voice dropping to a harsh whisper. "Look at me and tell me she's lying."

"It's complicated, Sabrina," he muttered, still refusing to meet my eyes.

"Complicated?" The sound ripped from my chest. "I threw myself in front of a truck for you! I spent ten years in this damn chair so you could walk out of that wreck without a scratch! Is that what my sacrifice was to you? A public relations strategy?"

"I never asked you to jump!" Dave suddenly shouted.

The room went dead silent.

The scream echoed off the high ceiling, bouncing against the walls like a physical blow.

Dave stared at me, his chest heaving, his face mottled red with sudden, ugly fury. The gentle, doting husband vanished completely.

"I never asked you to be a hero, Sabrina," Dave snarled, his hands curling into fists at his sides. "You made that choice! And for ten fucking years, you held it over my head like an executioner's axe! Every time I looked at you, I saw what you gave up. Every time I touched you, all I could think about was the debt! I spent my entire twenties wiping up after you! I learned your pill schedules! I sat through four hundred physical therapy sessions listening to you cry!"

Tears burned behind my eyelids, but I forced my eyes wide open, refusing to let a single drop fall.

"I have taken care of you for so many years," Dave said, his voice dropping into a cold, flat cadence that chilled me to the marrow. "I paid my debt. I gave you ten years of my youth. Now, I want to live for myself for once."

"Live for yourself," I repeated, the room blurring slightly at the edges. "With her?"

Victoria sneered, fishing her phone out of the sweater pocket. She unlocked the screen and held it out, turning the glass toward my face.

"Look at it," Victoria said softly, savoring every syllable.

The screen displayed a thread of messages dated three days ago.

*Dave: We’ll transfer the title of the coastal villa directly to your name once the medical review clears.*

*Dave: Her trust fund shares can be liquidated under the power of attorney. The board won't ask questions if she's declared unfit.*

*Dave: We can do the wedding in Santorini next spring. No ramps. No wheelchairs. Just us.*

My vision darkened.

My marriage wasn't just a prison to him. It was an asset liquidation. A cleanup operation.

"You planned this," I whispered, looking up at Dave. "The whole time you were feeding me soup and kissing my forehead... you were planning how to throw me away."

Dave didn't deny it. He reached over, caught Victoria's wrist, and pulled her behind him toward the stairs.

"We'll talk about the legal details in the morning," Dave said over his shoulder, not glancing back once. "Clara will be here at seven to help you dress."

They walked up the stairs together, side by side, leaving me stranded in the dark living room beneath our portrait.

I sat frozen, staring at the empty hallway.
