My Husband Chose His Pregnant Mistress—I Kept the House and Erased His Name

At eight months pregnant, I discovered Ryan had moved his pregnant mistress into our home. His mother's fix? Raise both babies as twins and forgive him because he "had needs." I didn't shed a tear. I handed over the divorce papers I'd already drafted and threw them out of the house my father bought me. Now I'm erasing Ryan's surname from our daughter's birth certificate and reviving the luxury design career I gave up for him. His mother's advice is costing him everything—and with a billionaire investor at my side, his remorse is something I no longer have time for.

Chapter 3

At thirty-seven weeks pregnant, my ribs constantly ached under the weight of the baby. Sleeping on my side felt like balancing a bowling ball, and my hips throbbed with every shift.

It was nearly midnight when the water shut off in the master bathroom.

The steam began to curl out from beneath the door, carrying the scent of sandalwood soap. On the nightstand, Ryan’s phone screen lit up in the dark.

A notification banner popped across the glass.

I didn't have to unlock it. The preview was fully visible under the name *Sophie*:

*I hate that you have to go home to her.*

My pulse didn't spike. My hands didn't shake. An eerie stillness settled over my chest, like ice creeping across open water.

The bathroom door swung open, billows of white vapor rolling into the bedroom. Ryan stepped out, a towel slung around his waist and a smaller one draped over his damp shoulders. He was humming a low, tuneless tune.

I picked up the phone.

With a single flick of my wrist, I tossed it across the room. It bounced off the center of his bare chest and clattered onto the hardwood floor by his bare feet.

Ryan jumped, startled. "What the hell, Olivia?"

"Read it," I said, sitting upright against the headboard, my hands resting over my swollen stomach.

His brow furrowed in annoyance as he bent down to scoop up the phone. His thumb grazed the screen to clear whatever he assumed was an accidental notification.

Then his eyes locked onto the screen.

Every trace of color drained from his face. The casual arrogance in his posture vanished, replaced by an abrupt, rigid stiffness. His jaw worked, but no sound came out.

"She texted the wrong person," he stammered out, his voice thin. "It was—she was talking about her landlord. Her lease is ending and—"

"Stop lying, Ryan." My voice was dead, flat, and hollow. "It’s insulting to both of us."

Ryan stared at me, his chest rising and falling in rapid, uneven breaths. When he realized I wasn't buying the lie, his panicked expression hardened into something ugly.

Defiance flared in his eyes.

"Fine," he snapped, throwing the phone onto the unmade bed. "You want the truth? She’s lonely, and I was listening to her. That's all it was."

" 'I hate that you have to go home to her' is not friendly conversation," I replied, looking directly into his shifting eyes. "It's the words of a woman sleeping with another woman’s husband."

"We haven't slept together!" Ryan shouted, running both hands violently through his damp hair. "Nothing physical happened! But can you blame me for wanting some warmth from someone? Look at us, Olivia!"

He gestured wildly toward the bed, his voice rising in petulant fury.

"When was the last time you let me touch you? Four months ago? Five? You’ve been completely shut down! You flinch whenever I put an arm around you. You sleep on the far edge of the mattress like I’m a stranger."

"I am carrying your child," I said, my voice dropping an octave, terrifyingly quiet. "My pelvis is separating. I’ve thrown up every single morning for thirty-seven weeks. My ankles are twice their normal size, and you’re angry because I didn't perform for you?"

"I’m a man!" Ryan yelled, his face turning red with defensiveness. "I have basic physical needs! You can't just expect me to turn off like a machine for almost a year because you’re uncomfortable. Marriage is a two-way street, Olivia. You completely neglected me first!"

The front door chimes rang out downstairs, followed immediately by heavy, erratic knocking.

Ryan flinched, looking toward the hallway.

"Did you call your mother?" I asked.

He didn't answer, his silence confirmation enough. He had probably texted her the moment he stepped out of his car earlier, whining about the cold shoulder I’d been giving him since the conservatory.

Ryan hurriedly pulled on a pair of gray sweatpants and a t-shirt before practically running down the stairs. A moment later, the sharp click of high heels echoed against the foyer floorboards.

Margaret didn't just walk up the stairs; she marched into our bedroom like she owned the building. She wore an expensive camel coat over her clothes, her makeup immaculate even at midnight.

"What is going on up here?" Margaret demanded, sweeping her gaze from Ryan’s flushed face to me. "Ryan called me in a complete state. Olivia, are you trying to cause a scene in the middle of the night?"

"Your son has been sleeping with Sophie," I said plainly.

Margaret didn't even blink. There was no shock, no shame, not even a momentary hesitation. Instead, a condescending smirk tugged at the corner of her lips.

"Is that what this childish hysteria is about?" Margaret crossed her arms, standing beside Ryan like a defense attorney presenting an opening argument. "A text message? Really?"

"She told him she hates that he has to come home to me," I replied.

"Because he’s miserable here!" Margaret countered sharply, stepping closer to the bed. "Ryan is a young, successful, virile man. You’ve been waddling around this house looking miserable and frigid for months. It is entirely natural for a man to seek affection elsewhere when his wife refuses her duties."

I looked at the woman who had demanded my obedience for three years.

"His duties?" I echoed softly.

"Yes, your duties," Margaret snapped, leaning in. "A smart woman keeps her husband satisfied, pregnant or not. You pushed him away with your endless complaints and sour attitude. If he found a little comfort in Sophie's company, you have nobody to blame but yourself. You should be apologizing to him for driving him out the door!"

Ryan stood behind her, his chin lifted, emboldened by his mother’s brazen defense. He crossed his arms, looking down at me as though waiting for my surrender.

They truly believed they held all the cards. They thought my pregnant belly was a cage that trapped me in their cruelty.

A profound, absolute peace washed over me.

Every lingering shred of affection, every memory of the man I had fallen in love with four years ago, burned away to clean, gray ash.

I didn't yell. I didn't cry.

I simply reached into the drawer of my nightstand and pulled out a thick, white legal envelope.

I slid out of bed, ignoring the heavy ache in my lower back, and walked over to the dresser where Ryan’s car keys lay. I dropped the heavy paper onto the polished mahogany with a sharp slap.

Ryan frowned, his eyes dropping to the bold black letterhead at the top.

*Formal Notice of Eviction and Separation of Non-Marital Property.*

"What is this?" Ryan’s voice wavered.

"It’s an official notice drafted by my attorney three days ago," I said calmly. "This house was purchased solely under my name two years before our wedding. You are not on the deed. You have never paid a single cent toward the mortgage."

Margaret scoffed, waving a hand dismissively. "You can't kick your husband out! You’re married! The law doesn't work that way!"

"In this state, sole-ownership premarital real estate remains separate property," I said, keeping my gaze locked entirely on Ryan. "You have thirty days under tenant law, but this notice offers you a choice. Sign the voluntary departure agreement tonight, or I file the formal eviction tomorrow morning, public record, with copies sent directly to your firm’s ethics board."

Ryan’s face went entirely slack. "My firm? Olivia, are you insane? A public dispute like this will destroy my partnership track!"

"Then pack your bags and leave tonight," I said.

"Olivia, stop this," Ryan pleaded, stepping toward me with his hands out, the arrogance crumbling into sheer desperation. "Let's talk about this rationally. We’re having a baby in three weeks! You can't raise this child alone!"

"I won't be alone. I have my savings, my home, and my dignity," I replied, taking a step back to keep the distance between us absolute. "Neither of which you respect."

"Where am I supposed to go at midnight?" he shouted, panic cracking his voice.

I looked at him, completely unbothered by his distress.

"Go to Sophie," I said softly. "You love her comfort so much, and you have so many unmet needs. Go live with her."

Ryan stared at me, frozen in place.

For the first time in our entire marriage, he looked into my eyes and found nothing. No anger to manipulate, no jealousy to exploit, no tears to dry with false promises.

Twenty minutes later, Ryan signed the voluntary departure agreement. It gave him until six the following evening to collect his belongings and surrender his key.
