Chapter 2

I shook off Jessie's hand and laughed out loud, “Jessie, do you think too highly of yourself?

“The sign I chose was not yours at all.”

There was a strange flash in Tobias's eyes.

“What did you say?” Jessie's pupils suddenly shrank and then she let out a sarcastic laugh, “Why are you pretending? Aren't you just jealous that I'm nice to Tobias?”

I was too lazy to argue any further and just turned and left.

Thinking that I could finally change my partner in this life and get rid of this lunatic Jessie, I felt a surge of satisfaction in my heart.

The next day, I went to the gallery under my name and wanted to pick out a painting to give to Elliot as a gift.

As I pushed open the gallery door, I froze in place.

The walls were covered with portraits of Tobias. From the high-spirited one to the melancholy one, the other had him lower his brows and the right one when he smiled lazily.

Each one was carefully framed and sparkled under the light.

“Do you like it?” Jessie stroked his face gently, “From now on, I will give you the most special gift every birthday.”

Tobias's ears turned red and he said in a low voice with a smile, “Jessie, you are so good to me, how can I repay you?”

After saying that, he lowered his head slightly and kissed Jessie on her lips.

The two soon became passionately kissing.

I sneered and knocked on the door frame and the two of them separated in panic.

Jessie frowned, “Why are you here?”

“Do I need to report my own property to you?” I felt a tightness in my chest.

In my previous life, it was here that I personally handed over the family property to this woman.

Jessie's lips curled up into a sarcastic smile, “Why are you so angry?”

She sneered, “Moses, haven’t you always been following me since you were a child? What are you playing hard to get now?”

“Stop pretending.” She said with contempt, “You love me so much, how could you really bear to let go?”

“Security,” I said in a cold voice, “Throw all this garbage out, including the people and paintings!”

“Don’t throw them away! These are all given to me by Jessie.”

Tobias suddenly rushed over and grabbed my hand, but the moment he touched me, he fell onto the coffee table. The glass fragments cut his calf and blood flowed.

“Moses!” Jessie pushed me angrily.

I stumbled into the metal easel, warm liquid running down my cheeks, but I felt no pain.

Jessie picked up the paint bucket and threw it at me as she yelled, “Moses, are you crazy?!”

She supported Tobias and strode away.

I knelt down in the mess and suddenly remembered something before I asked, “Where is my mother's painting of Spring Mountains?”

The staff member pointed to the corner tremblingly. The painting left by my mother before her death was stained beyond recognition by the red paint.

“Mom...” I murmured to myself while holding the painting, tears mixed with blood dripping onto the canvas.

The sound of a wheelchair came from far away.

I looked up and saw a figure sitting at the junction of light and shadow. The silver mask glowed coldly, but it could not hide her slightly trembling eyelashes.

It was Elliot.

“Don’t be sad.” Her eyes fell on my bleeding forehead and then quickly moved away.

“Medicine.” She handed me a tube of ointment. Her fingers were long and clean, but they curled slightly when they met my sight. “Otherwise, it will leave scars.”

I stared blankly at the medicine box in my hand and then I remembered that the Peter Family was the most prestigious medical family in the capital and they almost monopolized the city's Pharmaceutical Industry.

I took it, her fingertips trembled and she quickly retracted it.

“I know you were forced to choose.” Her voice was hoarse and each word was spoken slowly,

“I will cancel the engagement and you don’t have to wrong yourself.”
