Chapter 2

Without hesitation, I hung up Harrison’s call. I received the message from my best friend Mia Anderson, [Ella, I just heard from Harrison that you are in a bad mood because of stomachache. Do you want me to come and accompany you?]

I compressed my lips and remembered Mia also took part in the project in LA with Harrison. Did Harrison hide it from her too?

I jokingly said, “How can Harrison be so busy? Can you help me bring him back?”

I didn’t get a reply after a quite long time.

I suddenly clenched my phone and stared at the screen with the repeated ‘the other party is typing’.

After a while, Mia sent me a picture.

It was a photo of Harrison shaking hands with a collaborator.

She said, “Harrison just finished a meeting with an investor. He is very busy.”

I stared at this perfect explanation and an unprecedented chill rushed to the top of my head.

The pain and despair that I couldn’t hold back any longer rushed over me like a flood.

I curled up on the hospital bed, tears streaming down my cheeks. I felt so heartbroken that I even couldn’t breathe.

It turned out I was a fool surrounded by lies.

Everyone around me teamed up to play me around.

They all said Harrison was on a business trip, but he was now downstairs with his mistress doing a pregnancy test.

On the day Harrison pretended to rush back, I applied for the discharge in advance.

Before leaving the hospital, I inexplicably went to the obstetrics and gynecology department again.

The attending doctor was idle and chatting with the nurses beside the triage desk.

"The couple yesterday looked really good. Both the man and the woman were attractive."

"Yes, I have never seen such a considerate husband. When his wife wanted to drink sour plum juice, he immediately searched the whole hospital."

The nurses spoke with envy about other people's love.

Listening to their praise of that husband, I vaguely remembered that I also liked to hear others talk about the love story between Harrison and me.

Sometimes, I even wanted the whole world to know that we loved each other and we were an enviable couple.

I lost my parents when I was young and grew up in a hard way. My life was dull, without color or light.

Until I met Harrison, I found a little brightness in the haze.

Harrison was the center of attention and a perfect guy in everyone's eyes when he was in college.

I thought that someone like me would never have any intersection with Harrison in this life.

But fate seemed to arrange such plots for me.

In my junior year, the teacher asked us to write a letter to our loved ones. We could write to our parents or our lover.

I didn’t have any love for anyone, so I left the letter blank in the column.

But the next day, someone mischievously wrote Harrison's name on my letter.

Perhaps everyone thought I didn't deserve to love him. Those girls who liked Harrison came to me aggressively.

They took my ‘love letter’ and posted it on the bulletin board, with a big word next to it, [shameless].

During that time, I became the laughingstock of the whole school.

Wherever I went, there were people pointing and cursing at me, calling me shameless.

Harrison's friends came to watch me. "She seems like a country girl. It is said that her parents are dead."

"Tsk, it sounds unlucky. How can a child who grew up unloved deserve to love someone else?"

I listened to their discriminatory mockery and endured their shoving, but no one was willing to listen to my heart-breaking explanation.

I looked at the mean crowd in embarrassment, only to be pushed down by them once again.

Just as I was about to fall down, someone grabbed my hand.

In the noise, I heard someone angrily roar.

"Who said no one loves Ella Bell!?"

At that moment, the crowd fell silent.

I saw the handsome guy, who was always high above, appear in front of me and protect me firmly behind him.

It was the first time the whole school had seen the always well-behaved and well-known man, Harrison, lose his temper like that.

With red eyes, he told everyone, "I like her!"

At that moment, I thought had finally found a home.
