Chapter 1

When I saw Harrison Landon in the hospital, I thought he had come to see me specially from out of town.

Joy burst out uncontrollably, and I even felt a little less pain from my miscarriage.

"Harrison..." I squeezed out a smile, dragging my body towards him.

"Harrison!"

A lively female voice came from the noisy hospital as someone called out to him.

I saw the exhaustion on Harrison's face suddenly disappear in an instant.

He suddenly stopped and slowly turned around. I followed his gaze and saw a young pregnant girl.

The girl jogged over, holding her belly, with a coquettish look on her face.

"Why didn't you wait for me? The baby in my belly is tired!"

Harrison's face softened as he carefully embraced her.

He took a bottle of plum juice from behind as if he was playing a magic trick.

“Didn't you want to drink plum juice? I searched all the vending machines in the hospital and bought it for you.”

The girl's face eased, and she buried herself in his neck like a spoiled child, "I forgive you on behalf of the baby.”

Harrison looked down and gently touched her belly. The pampering in his eyes was almost overflowing.

“Yes, our baby must be very happy now.”

When I returned to the ward, the phone on the bedside table was ringing.

It was from Harrison.

I answered the phone numbly. Harrison said in anxious, vaguely mixed with exhaustion.

“Ella, you missed a lot of my calls. Are you okay? Is your stomach still hurting?”

I froze for a few seconds, a deep sense of powerlessness rushing over me.

Before I had a chance to tell Harrison about my pregnancy, the baby was gone.

I didn't want to worry Harrison who was on a business trip, so I only told him I had a stomachache and called an ambulance alone.

But little did I know, when I was in excruciating pain in the hospital bed, my husband, who didn’t care about me, was with his pregnant mistress.

He was with her now.

A sharp pain spread from my heart and travelled quickly down my nerves into my limbs.

I was afraid of pain, and this sudden heartache was a thousand times more painful than any suffering I had ever experienced.

I felt a surge of sourness rushed into my nostrils. I covered my chest, but my voice suddenly choked.

"Harrison, I'm in so much pain."

"But you just said..." Harrison hesitated for a moment, panicked when he heard my crying voice, and comforted me incoherently, "Ella, can you endure it for a little longer?"

Endure?

How could I bear to see my beloved husband, who I had loved for ten years, having a mistress and their child?

I hoarsely pleaded, "I can't take it anymore, Harrison, can you come and see me?"

I was in pain, Harrison. Because of you, I was in pain. This was your last chance. Can you...

After hearing my words, Harrison kept silent.

Time passed by minute by minute, and Harrison remained silent for a long time.

After an unknown amount of time, a slightly weary voice slowly sounded, gradually extinguishing the last trace of hope in my heart.

“I'm sorry, Ella. I'm still in LA and I don’t have time. I’ll rush back to see you tomorrow.”
