Honeymoon is Over: I Sent My Husband and His Family to Jail
Chapter 2
I put down my spoon. There was nothing on the table that I could eat, so I'm simply not eating it. I looked at Shawn with a smile and said, "Honey, can you decide the company's personnel arrangement now? How amazing!"
"Of course, Shawn has always been amazing!"
Erin puffed out her chest proudly, as if she were Shawn's wife.
My parents-in-law looked anxious. It was obvious that they understood what I meant. "Erin, behave yourself."
My father-in-law obviously said that to appease me.
"Good. After all, you're a younger sister to Shawn. Since Shawn has made the arrangements, then it's settled." I emphasized the word younger sister. Looking at Erin's angry expression, I felt really good.
I knew a little about the relationship between Shawn and Erin. They were childhood sweethearts. But then Shawn started his business while Erin furthered her studies.
At first, Shawn made some money. Erin treated him nicely. Later, his business began to decline for some reason.
Then Erin contacted less and less with him until one day she proposed breaking up with him.
After that, Erin dated a rich man and studied abroad. It was at that time that I met Shawn.
Before we met, my parents had passed away in a car accident. I was left to run their company. Shawn was my most capable subordinate.
Gradually, we fell in love with each other and became a couple.
Then Erin came back to him, saying that she went abroad only to avoid dragging him down, that she loved him. I didn't know how Shawn reacted to it. Anyway, he chose to be with me in the end.
He had told me that he had cut down contact with Erin, but now it seemed that not only were they in contact, but even my parents-in-law were in contact with Erin.
After dinner, Shawn pulled me into the kitchen.
"Is there anything you want to say?" I looked at Shawn. Somehow, I felt that he was a little unreliable.
Shawn turned around and closed the kitchen door. "I treat Erin as my younger sister now. Don't think too much about it. After all, our two families have always been friends. I have to help her."
Looking at Shawn, I couldn't help but sneer. "Why? You want to rebuild your old relationship with your childhood sweetheart?"
My teasing seemed to hit Shawn. His panicked. "No, no."
Looking at his flustered reply, I knew that my life would not be easy in the future.
What happened had already annoyed me enough. What was worse, Erin slept in the master bedroom again after washing up.
The three Barrets saw it, but none stepped forward to stop it. It seemed that it would not take long for me to face a relationship crisis.
But since I had just gotten married, I didn't want to make things worse. I chose to endure it.
The next morning, I went to the office alone.
As soon as I entered the company, I felt that the atmosphere was somewhat strange.
Even my most trusted vice president, Jenny Brown, was not in the company. Her position was empty.
After I waited for a long time, the staff finally arrived.
"What happened in the company? Why is it so messy? Why is Mrs. Brown's place empty."
I asked so many questions that the employee was confused.
"Didn't you fire Mrs. Brown?"
"What?"
I was shocked. It'd be more possible for me to fire Shawn than to fire Jenny.
I hurried to ask why.
It turned out that Shawn made Erin an ordinary employee in the company at first, but Erin seemed to think it too low a position to fit her. So she told Shawn every day how Jenny bullied her. In the end, Shawn fired Jenny behind my back.
When I heard that, I was furious.
I would go home and get it clear.
When I got home, the Barrets and Erin were sitting there eating breakfast. In comparison, I looked like an outsider.
"Quentin, where have you been so early in the morning? Did you go to the company? Don't rush to work. Have a good rest at home." My mother-in-law's words sounded very warm, but on second thought, I realized she was afraid that I would go to the company.
"No, I just went out for a walk."
I chose to hide my feelings and sat at the dining table.
"Honey, I won't go to the company today. Jenny has been working very hard recently. I'll treat her to a meal!"
I deliberately said that, but my father-in-law immediately refuted it. "No way!"
I looked at him. "Why?"
As if realizing his rashness, my father-in-law changed his attitude. "Quentin, you've just come back and you're very tired. It will exhaust you to treat your subordinate. Just rest at home for a few days."
"It's okay. I'm not tired. Jenny must be very tired. Don't you think so, hubby?" I replied with a smile, but my tone allowed no refutation.
It turned out they all knew that Jenny had been fired except for me. I wondered what they wanted to do! Do they want to make me a mere figurehead and take over my company?
Just as I was thinking about it, Erin began to sick me again. "Quentin, it's so kind of you to treat the employee. Will they appreciate you?"
"Of course, she will appreciate it. After all, she worked so hard to get it. It's better than seducing men to get a ready-made meal." I retorted, which made Erin a little embarrassed.
"Quentin, what are you talking about?" Shawn talked for Erin.
"Honey, you'd better eat first, or her coquettish talk may affect your appetite."
After saying that, I left. I had a feeling that the four of them were doing something behind my back.
I have to guard against it.
