He Made Me Test the Drug for His Mistress

9.4 / 10.0
While Greg James celebrates my pregnant business partner Sophie's news with massive charitable donations, he dismisses my own pregnancy with cold, basic advice. When Sophie develops a severe allergic reaction, Greg spares no expense to fund an experimental prenatal drug overseas. However, instead of risking Sophie's health, he demands that I ingest the untested medicine first to ensure its safety, completely disregarding the life of my own unborn child for the sake of his beloved mistress.

He Made Me Test the Drug for His Mistress Chapter 1

My business partner was pregnant.

Greg James was thrilled, like a man who'd just become a father. He donated three hundred thousand dollars to charity, praying for her and the baby's safety.

I was pregnant too.

All he told me was to drink plenty of hot water and get my rest.

Three months in, my business partner suddenly broke out in an allergic dermatitis that the usual medications couldn't cure, and Greg was so frantic he couldn't sleep a single night through.

So he reached out overseas, found a research team, and threw a fortune at developing a prenatal drug made just for her.

To test whether the drug was safe, he came to me. He wanted me to be the one to try it.

"Sophie's frail, and this baby wasn't easy for her to conceive. Try the drug first, see if it's safe, whether it'll affect the baby."

...

"And what about me?"

I asked him in a low voice, my fingertips pinched white.

I'd just finished my prenatal checkup, hadn't even had the chance to show Greg the results, when he came rushing over in a panic.

For three months I'd gone to every appointment alone. He hadn't come with me even once.

Then out of nowhere he'd called, all keyed up, asking where I was.

I told him honestly, thinking maybe he'd finally remembered me and our baby.

I never imagined he'd come all this way to say something like that.

"What about you?"

Greg frowned, not understanding. He crumpled my checkup results into a ball, grabbed my hand, and started pulling me toward the car.

"Never mind all that for now, just come with me to the office. The drug's been made and shipped there already. Go and test whether it's safe."

I followed him numbly, as though I were walking a road with no turning back.

"What happens if it isn't safe?"

I asked it out of nowhere, and he answered without a second's thought.

"If it isn't safe, it causes a miscarriage. The baby might not make it."

My heart lurched.

He wasn't rattled in the least. If anything, he grew more anxious.

"It wasn't easy for Sophie to get pregnant. She finally wanted a child of her own, went through it overseas so many times, called me crying from the pain more times than I can count. Nothing can go wrong for her."

"Ha."

I let out a cold laugh, a weight pressing down on my chest like a stone.

I struggled to pull my hand from his grip, but he only held on tighter.

Only when I wrenched my hand free like a madwoman did his eyes slowly find me.

"What are you doing? Now of all times, what are you throwing a fit for?"

"I don't want to go with you."

I stepped around him, one hand over the slight swell of my belly, and made up my mind.

I was going to get rid of this baby.

Greg seemed to sense something. He lunged forward like a man gone mad, blocked my path, and hauled me bodily into the car.

"Felicia Donaldson, will you stop this? You were perfectly fine, what are you flaring up over now? You won't come to the office to test the drug? Where do you think you're going?"

"I'm going to get rid of the baby."

I told him my decision flatly.

Greg detonated on the spot.

I thought he might feel some grief for his own child. Instead he flew into a rage and lashed out at me.

"How can you do this? If you abort the baby, how are you supposed to test the drug for Sophie? She's pregnant right now. I don't dare risk letting her take it, that's why I need you to test it."

Looking at Greg, at how entitled he seemed, I couldn't hold back a cold, mocking smile.

"Greg, she's just a business partner of mine. Why are you this worked up over her? And on top of that, I'm your wife, carrying your child, and you want me to test the drug?"

Greg went still for a moment, his patience nearly gone.

"It's exactly because Sophie is your business partner that you shouldn't be so petty about it! Helping her is helping you deal with a problem, isn't it?"

His patience ran out. He slammed the doors locked and hit the gas, tearing forward.

Barely ten minutes later, we pulled up outside his company building.

"Get out! The drug's in my office."
