Chapter 1

I accidentally saw my husband's phone search history:

"What to do about menstrual cramps in girls?"

"Which brand of heating pads is the most effective?"

"How to relieve pain quickly? Can Advil help with menstrual cramps? Are there any side effects with long-term use?"

As I read each search query, I fell silent.

I'm three months pregnant, so who is he doing this for...?

"Why are you still sitting here?"

Ronan West's voice startled me from behind, snapping me back to reality.

I instinctively turned off the phone and returned it to its original spot, my heart hammering in my chest.

My cold feet were wrapped in his warm hands as Ronan knelt in front of me, frowning in disapproval.

"Didn't I tell you to go to bed earlier? Your feet are so cold."

The concern in his eyes didn't seem fake, causing me to hesitate.

For a moment, I wondered if what I had just seen was real.

In a daze, Ronan had already pulled me up effortlessly.

"Go to bed now. It's almost ten. Don't you know a pregnant woman needs plenty of sleep?"

Just then, the phone on the coffee table lit up again.

I covertly glanced at it.

"Did you hang up the clothes?"

I asked him.

"I'll take care of it once you're asleep."

He gently helped me to bed, kissed my forehead, and said, "Sleep tight," before smiling and leaving the room.

The WeChat notification sound outside the door was jarringly loud, echoing my unsettled heart.

About ten minutes passed before Ronan came back in.

He said, "Vivian, there's some business at the law firm I need to attend to. Go to sleep; don't wait up for me."

Liar.

I stared at him quietly for a moment before asking, "Do you really have to go now?"

"Yes, it's urgent. Be good and sleep. Tomorrow I'll bring you your favorite sandwich."

Tomorrow meant he wouldn't be back tonight. Not waiting for my response, he left the room.

The heavy door muffled the sound of the engine outside. I lay in bed, lost in thought.

Until the sudden ringing of Ronan's forgotten phone pulled my thoughts back.

The call display read "Luna Morgan."

Ronan's junior, the one he claimed was always causing trouble.

I let the phone ring without answering, knowing he must have been in a rush to forget it.

Driven by an inexplicable impulse, I followed Ronan out the door.

It was my first time tailing someone.

The cab driver gave me a knowing look and said, "Got it."

Messages from Ronan's phone kept pinging:

"Senior, when will you arrive?"

"Didn't you say half an hour? It's been forty minutes now, boohoo."

"I'm alone here. Can you hurry up? My stomach really hurts..."

"Is it because Vivian won't let you go out? Can you tell her to send me to the hospital? I think I'm going to faint from the pain..."

A wave of indescribable emotions surged through me. The cab braked suddenly, and I couldn't help but retch.

As I turned my head, I saw a familiar figure on the street.

The driver followed my gaze and understandingly stopped the car.

Half an hour ago, Ronan had said he had urgent business. Now, he was kneeling in front of a girl curled up on the ground, speaking softly.

From a distance, I couldn't hear what they were saying.

I watched as Luna buried her head into Ronan's arm, nuzzling gently.

Ronan stroked her head and said something before lifting her into his arms and placing her in the car.

As he got in from the other side, I saw him exhale silently.

I think I understood why Ronan had been so restless tonight.

"Should we follow them?"

The driver asked me.
