From Attachment to Detachment in Love's Journey
Chapter 2
I finally couldn't stand the dirty relationship between her and Bruce Gavin anymore,
I looked at her calmly. "In this case, I won't embarrass you anymore. Let's get a divorce."
My marriage with Jasmine was an accident.
A few years ago, I had an accident on the way to work.
My leg was broken, and I stayed in the hospital for a month.
Coincidentally, at that time, Jasmine was also injured and stayed in the same ward as me.
Gradually, we fell in love with each other and were together.
But my nightmare had just begun.
Jasmine was divorced once because her ex-husband cheated on her, so after we got married, she was very strict with me.
I couldn't even like or comment on my female friends' Instagram. Once, I liked a female colleague's Instagram, and Jasmine scolded me for the whole night.
At first, I didn't take it too seriously. I knew she became so vigilant because she was hurt by her ex-husband.
Besides, I had never been in a relationship before, and I naively believed that men should give in to women.
Later, Jasmine thought that my parents were not able to take good care of the child because they had a low education and spoiled the child.
She asked me to quit my job and be a full-time father.
When we got married, I promised that I would meet all her requirements, so I agreed.
At that time, her alumnus Bruce returned to the country.
Jasmine took me to have a meal with Bruce.
At the dinner, they talked about their college days. Bruce said Jasmine took care of him in the college and he admired her very much.
Bruce also said that if Jasmine hadn't gotten married, he would have pursued her when he returned.
After that, I seriously told Jasmine that Bruce was going too far by saying that.
But she asked me back, "Is he going too far or are you being overly sensitive? He was just joking. Don't take it seriously. We will see each other every day, so please stop saying such nonsense."
"You will see each other every day? What do you mean?"
"I've decided to recruit Bruce to join the company. You quit your job to take care of the child, and the company is short of manpower now, so Bruce can fill the vacancy."
During the following period, Jasmine and Bruce often went out on dates.
She even forgot our anniversary and didn't come home until the next morning.
Smelling the alcohol on her body, I asked her what she had done. She looked at the food on the table and explained, "Bruce's girlfriend abroad broke up with him, and I went to comfort him and drink with him. What day was it yesterday? Why did you prepare so many delicious foods?"
"Just to comfort him, you even forgot our wedding anniversary?"
Jasmine was stunned, but then she said, "Luckily I forgot about this matter. Otherwise, Bruce would have been sadder because he lost his love on our wedding anniversary."
I was so furious that I wanted to call Bruce and scold him.
But Jasmine stopped me, scolding me for being narrow-minded.
I said, "Jasmine, you are becoming more and more like your ex-husband."
"Chris, what do you mean by mentioning my ex-husband? You looked down on me from the beginning because I'm a divorced woman, right? Since you despise me, I won't be a burden to you. I can divorce you."
Hearing her words, I could only comfort her that I didn't mean that.
Then I apologized to her and endured it silently until she went on a business trip with Bruce.
I couldn't endure days like this anymore.
I was only 28 years old, but I lived a sad life.
The next morning, Jasmine came and knocked on my door.
To my surprise, she changed her usual arrogant attitude and said to me, "Honey, I was wrong yesterday."
Every time we quarreled in the past, she would ask for a divorce and then I would apologize to her.
Every time this happened, she would think that it was indeed my fault.
But after thinking for a night, I knew what I wanted now.
"No, Jasmine. You are very good. I am wrong. We shouldn't have been together from the beginning. Now, while we are still young, we should get a divorce so that we can have a new start."
When Jasmine heard what I said, she got anxious.
She grabbed me and asked, "Chris, I've already apologized to you. What else do you want?"
She was so condescending even when apologizing.
Besides, did I have to accept it as long as she apologized?
"I said I want a divorce."
She held my hand tightly and said impatiently, "If we get divorced, what about the child?"
I asked her back, "When Bruce hugged you, did you ever think about the child?"
When she heard what I said, her expression changed, and the muscles on her face trembled.
She finally realized why I asked her for a divorce.
"Chris, did you go to the airport yesterday?"
"Yes, I wanted to take the child there to give you a surprise, but it turned out to be a surprise for me. You and him are a good match, so I will help you."
The calmer I was, the more frightened Jasmine looked.
She explained with a trembling voice, "Chris, please listen to me. A hug is nothing. If Bruce behaves like this again, I will stop him."
"No need. Even if you sleep together, it has nothing to do with me. Do you have time today? Let's go to the City Hall to make an appointment."
I was talking about the divorce all the time, and Jasmine realized my determination.
She walked out in a panic and said to me, "Chris, you are just jealous now. When you calm down, you won't want to divorce me. I just came back from a business trip, and there are a lot of things to do in the company. I don't have time to go to the City Hall with you."
I knew she was stalling for time on purpose.
She thought that if she waited until I calmed down and figured things out, everything would be back to normal.
But she didn't know that from the moment I saw her not resisting Bruce's hug, I had made up my mind.
I sent the child to my parents and let them take care of him for a few days.
They saw at a glance that something had happened to Jasmine and me and asked me.
I didn't hide it from them and told them that I was planning to divorce Jasmine.
They tried to persuade me at first, but they also knew Jasmine was an overbearing woman.
Faced with my persistence, they stopped persuading me.
Everything at home in the past few years was earned by Jasmine, so I didn't want anything.
I would go out and look for a job.
I graduated from a prestigious university and had only been idle at home for a year, so it only took me one day to find a job.
In the evening, I went home and packed my luggage.
When I was about to leave with my suitcases, I met Jasmine coming out of the elevator.
Bruce was with her.
