For His Lover, He Abandoned Us

I had a dream.

In the dream, I was sitting in a small boat. A little boy sat next to me, holding my hand and smiling at me.

"Mom, does Dad love me?"

I was stunned for a moment, staring blankly at the vast sea.

The little boy shook my hand.

"Mom, it's enough that you love me. I hope I can be your child again in the future."

Suddenly, the sky darkened, and a bright moon rose over the sea. The little boy stood up and walked step by step towards the sea.

Tears streamed down my face. I wanted to shout for him not to go, but no sound came from my throat.

When I woke up from the dream, a nurse was changing my IV.

"You're awake. You can still have children. Right now, the most important thing is to recover. To survive such a severe car accident at eight months pregnant is already a miracle."

The nurse sighed and looked at her watch.

"You've slept for a whole day and night. Where's your husband? Why isn't he here?"

I shook my head, feeling like a knife had stabbed into my heart, piercing every nerve.

The baby was gone, and so much time had passed, yet Ian still hadn't shown up.

"What kind of husband is he? Your wife is in this condition, and he still isn't here. You should call him and make him come over."

The nurse spoke angrily, then gave me a few instructions before leaving the room.

Suddenly, the phone by my bedside rang. I picked it up and saw it was Ian.

"Do you have the keys to the house in East City? Bring them to me. Sofia has nowhere to stay right now, so I'm planning to let her stay there temporarily."

I let out a cold snort.

The villa in East City was a wedding anniversary gift from Ian to compensate for the years I spent supporting him.

Now he wanted to give my house to his first love, ignoring his wife who just lost their child in a car accident?

"Ian, that house is mine. What right does Sofia have to stay there?"

Hearing my unfriendly tone, Ian paused for a moment, then burst into anger.

"Mila, what do you mean? Sofia came back alone. It's already difficult for her. Why can't you be more understanding?"

"We have so many houses. Why can't you let her stay in one? Why are you being so unreasonable and irrational now?"

Hearing Ian's twisted arguments and thinking of the child leaving in my dream, my eyes darkened.

"Ian, let's get a divorce. After the divorce, you can let whoever you want stay in the house. I won't stop you."

"Mila, are you crazy?"

Ian roared, and then a delicate female voice came from the phone.

"Ian, forget it. I'm fine staying at a hotel. I can manage on my own. Don't argue with Mila because of me. She's still pregnant."

Ian immediately softened his tone to comfort Sofia.

"Sofia, this has nothing to do with you. She's the one being unreasonable. Even if I have to buy a new house for you today, I won't let you stay in a hotel."

"Mila, where are you now? I'll come get the keys from you. Sofia is definitely staying in that house today."

Smelling the disinfectant in the air, I spoke coldly.

"Ian, I'm at the First Hospital, obstetrics inpatient department."

Hearing my answer, Ian paused in disbelief, then tentatively asked.

"Is the baby born? Boy or girl? I'll go to the hospital right now."

"The baby is dead. You killed him. He died while you were on your way to see Sofia Moore."

My tone was icy, anger burning through my body, ready to explode at any moment.

I heard a loud thud from the other end, and then Ian hung up.
