Chapter 3

When Ian rushed to the hospital, I was struggling to sit up in bed.

The baby had been delivered by C-section, and I had just had my tubes removed. The doctor said I needed to move around to pass gas.

Our eyes met, and Ian's expression was heavy, with a hint of unspeakable sorrow.

"Mila, I didn't know you were in an accident. About the baby, I..."

I glanced at Sofia Moore standing behind him, and my face darkened.

"Ian, you should know that the person I don't want to see right now is her. Why did you bring her?"

Ian awkwardly glanced at Sofia, then shielded her behind him.

"Mila, I know you're sad about losing the baby, but Sofia is innocent. This has nothing to do with her."

I let out a sarcastic laugh and pointed angrily at Ian.

"Nothing to do with her? Ian, if you hadn't abandoned me on the highway for Sofia, I wouldn't have had the car accident. The baby wouldn't have died alone."

"You and Sofia Moore are the murderers who killed my baby."

Ian's face turned pale. He opened his mouth but couldn't say a word.

"Mila, I know you're heartbroken over losing the baby. You can hit me or curse me, but please don't blame Ian. It's all my fault."

At that moment, Sofia suddenly stood in front of me, looking guilty and remorseful.

I stepped forward and gave her a hard push.

"What right do you have to speak for him? Why did you come back? There are so many men out there. Why do you have to covet someone else's husband?"

Sofia, unsteady in her high heels, staggered and fell into Ian's arms.

"Mila, that's enough. I know losing the baby is a huge blow to you, but what did Sofia do wrong? Why are you treating her like this?"

Seeing Sofia's pitiful look, Ian angrily pointed at me and scolded.

Sofia stood up from Ian's arms and took his hand.

"Ian, forget it. Don't argue with Mila because of me. She's already pitiful enough, having just lost her baby. I don't want her to get hurt again because of me."

"Mila, look at Sofia. She's so understanding. Can't you learn from her?"

Ian glanced at me, his hand on Sofia's waist, as if afraid I'd attack her again.

I let out a cold snort.

"Learn from her? Learn to seduce someone else's husband? Learn to make someone else's husband abandon his eight-months-pregnant wife on the highway?"

"Mila, don't be so harsh."

Ian's face turned livid as he glared at me.

"Ian, it's fine. As long as it calms Mila down, I'm okay with anything."

It seemed Sofia was afraid the fire between Ian and me wasn't burning hot enough.

She stepped forward from Ian's side, sincerely holding my hand, but her eyes were full of smugness.

Now, whenever I saw Sofia's face, I thought of my unborn child. I raised my hand, intending to slap her.

Seeing this, Ian immediately grabbed my raised hand and forcefully flung it away.

Having just gone through a car accident and a C-section, I couldn't withstand Ian's force. I fell backward.

My back hit the hospital bed, and the IV I was holding fell to the ground with a crisp sound. The liquid spilled everywhere.

"Ah, blood."

Sofia screamed, covering her mouth at the sight before her.

My head was spinning from the impact.

Ian stood frozen, staring at his hands, muttering.

"I didn't use much force. I didn't use much force. Why did this happen?"

I looked down at myself. A stream of dark red blood flowed down my thigh, staining my white hospital gown.

The floor was covered in bright red, and the strong smell of blood filled the entire ward.
