Fight Against the Evil Mother-in-law’s Rules Chapter 1

The Weird Rules of the Evil Mother-in-law

When I was discussing wedding with my boyfriend, my mother-in-law told me a weird rule.

Getting pregnant before getting married.

I disagreed, because it didn't make sense.

But my boyfriend agreed with what his mother had said and took advantage of my trust to get me pregnant before getting married.

As a result, on the first day they found out I was pregnant, they overturned all the wedding conditions we had previously agreed on.

The betrothal gift was reduced from 100 thousand dollars to one thousand dollars, and the wedding place was changed from a star-rated hotel to a farm stay.

The promised wedding house turned into a dilapidated house in the countryside.

The given reason from my mother-in-law was that I didn't love myself and was not worthy of their family's efforts.

Then I went to the hospital.

There were things waiting for them that would make them even more collapse!

*****

Felix Wayne and I had been dating for three years and were planning to get married this year.

Our two families were not in the same city, so we took time out during the holidays to get together and discuss all the details of the wedding.

Finally, it was decided that the betrothal gift would be 100 thousand dollars and my dowry would also be 100 thousand dollars, and all the money would be taken back to my home.

The two family took charge in their own banquet.

My husband's family would pay for the down payment on the wedding house, and my family would pay for the decoration and appliances. Felix and I owned the house, so we would pay the mortgage together after marriage.

All other formalities such as engagement were cancelled.

I thought everything was settled.

However, when my parents left, my future mother-in-law asked me to stay alone.

She closed the door, took my hand, and stared me up and down.

In the end, she looked very disdainful yet somewhat satisfied.

"Laney, let me tell you the truth. The customs here may be different from yours."

I wonder, why didn't she tell us when my parents were around?

"Auntie, what are the customs? Please tell me."

"Well, in our place, you usually have to get pregnant, then you can have the wedding, and finally you can get the marriage license."

"What?"

I thought I heard it wrong. Getting pregnant before getting married?

Although this kind of thing was very normal in modern society, no one would specifically emphasize that you have to do this in order to get married.

It was so outrageous.

And then she said.

"This is very normal here. Holding a wedding with a baby is double happiness."

Of course I didn't agree with it. Such so-called double happiness was totally unreasonable.

In the past three years, Felix and I had always been self-disciplined and polite.

We never cross the line.

I was a traditional girl and he had always respected me.

Coming out of her room, I just wanted to leave quickly. I thought her thoughts were not normal.

Felix saw I was unhappy, so he asked me.

I told him his mother's request, and I thought he would think the same as I did.

But he agreed with his mother's opinion.

"Well, we do have this saying here, so don't be too surprised."

"Then why have you never mentioned this to me before?"

He hugged me.

"There's no need to mention this. Customs are customs, but I won't force you."

After hearing this, I felt a little relieved.

After all, I have been dating this man for three years. If he had that kind of feeling, he would not have been able to endure it for three years.

After that, his mother asked me to stay at their house for a few more days, saying that she wanted to introduce me to the relatives here.

To avoid the embarrassment of not knowing anyone at the wedding.

No one mentioned the incident again, so I thought it was over.

But they were actually waiting to dig a hole for me.

During the few days being here, I always felt that Felix and his mother were too close, and their relationship went beyond that of an ordinary mother and son.

Many of their actions even resembled those between lovers.

Anyway, it was weird, but I didn't have the nerve to ask.

On the last night of the holiday, my mother-in-law cooked a lot of delicious food.

"You'll be gone for several months, can't come back until the wedding. I really don't want to leave you."

"Let's get some drink tonight."

She poured us each a glass.

Felix knew that I never drink.

But this night, he asked me to drink some, to give his mother a favor.

So, I had no choice but to drink a small cup.

My throat felt like being burnt. It was white wine. I have never drunk it before.

After a while, I started to feel dizzy and drowsy. I saw a calculating look on my mother-in-law's face.

However, Felix was expecting.

My body was shaky and I couldn't stand steadily, but my mind was clear.

I saw Felix get top of me fiercely.

I saw him start to take off my clothes.

I wanted to push him away, but my body didn't obey me at all and I couldn't even lift my hands.

I heard my mother-in-law's voice.

"Son, seize the opportunity and make sure you give birth to a grandson for me. Then..."

I knew that they had ganged up on me.

However, I was drunk and had no capability to resist.

The next day I woke up in Felix's bed.

After tossing my dizzy head, I raised my hand and gave Felix beside me a big slap.

Then I cried and yelled.

"Felix, you ambushed me."

He hugged me tightly and apologized.

"No, Laney, I didn't mean it. I just saw your red face from drinking and I couldn't help it."

"I have endured it for three years. No man can endure it for as long as I have."

"Besides, we have already decided the wedding date. We are getting married soon. It is only a matter of time. Laney, please forgive me."

I was too sad to cry, and could only blame myself for drinking too much.

He was right. We have decided to get married.

If I made a scene over this, it would be hard for me to end it.

The most important thing was that I loved Felix. I really did.

So I didn't tell anyone and just swallowed my anger.

What I didn't expect was that one month later, I found out I was pregnant.

My period was delayed for several days, so I bought a pregnancy test.

Two bars.

My head was buzzing with the thought that I was not ready to be a mother at all.

But Felix was very happy. He picked me up and twirled me around.

Excitedly, he called his mother immediately.

"Mom, we made it. We made it."

I didn't know what he meant by this, but I just felt uncomfortable no matter how I thought about it.

Before I told my parents, Felix's mother rushed over overnight.

She stared at me up and down again, just like the first time.

"Yes, I said I am right. Sure enough, she got pregnant so quickly."

"Son, you're awesome!"

Felix stood beside her, as proud as a fighting rooster, with his head held high.

"Okay, okay, Laney, now I'm relieved. Your wedding can be held as schedule."

There was something I didn't understand.

If I had not pregnant, would the wedding not take place?

I looked at Felix but he didn't say anything.

My mother-in-law went back to her hometown overnight.

She said she was going back to prepare for our wedding.

A month later, Felix and I returned to his home together, and the wedding was three days later.

My mother asked me when Felix would give the betrothal gift.

I thought about it and asked Felix.

He hemmed and hawed.

"You'll have to ask my mom about this."

So I went to ask my mother-in-law directly.

"Auntie, my mother asked when you will give the betrothal gift. My dowry is already prepared."

"And the house. Felix said you have decided one. Where is it? I want to go and see it."

She said as she fiddled with her cup.

"Don't worry, I will give it to you on that day."

I always felt a sense of unease in my heart, but I couldn't put my finger on it.

My mother transferred 100 thousand dollars to my card the day before the wedding.

Our two families had agreed at the time that we would hold our own banquets, and guest from the both sides don't need to go to the other side.

It was just for everyone's convenience.

I waited anxiously until the wedding day.

I was waiting at the hotel for Felix to pick me up and take me to the star-rated hotel booked long ago.

But unexpectedly, he took me directly back to his hometown in the countryside.

I looked at the several large sheds built at home and had a bad feeling in my heart.

"Don't we go to the hotel? Why do we come back now?"

Felix was embarrassed for a moment, but he quickly covered it up.

"My mother said that if we hold the wedding in our house, the relatives can have some fun and chat for a while."

"In the hotel, we have to leave after getting a meal. It's boring."

I was not happy. The wedding venue wasn't particularly luxurious, but I just liked the atmosphere most.

It met all my expectations for a wedding and was not expensive.

But what it is now? Just a place with a few pieces of oilcloth propped up and a few tables placed underneath.

It rained yesterday and the ground was covered in mud. They didn't even place a carpet.

I didn't even know where to stand.

My mother-in-law came to ask me to get out of the car.

I refused, because I really didn't even have a place to put my feet.

I picked out my wedding dress with great difficulty. If I stepped out, It would be covered with mud.

Seeing that I didn't get out, all relatives were watching the fun.

"Oh, I'm afraid the bride probably doesn't like Felix. She didn't even get out of the car."

"Oh, yeah. I heard the bride is from a big city. She might not like our small place."

My mother-in-law looked a little unhappy and scolded those relatives.

"Nonsense! She lives in a big city, but my son also works in a big city and will live in a big city in the future."

"What's so great about that?"

After she said that, she opened my car door, pulled me out of the car violently.

I heard a tearing sound.

She tore a hole in the neckline of my wedding dress.

I was so anxious and angry that almost cried out.

The red wedding shoes were covered in mud, as was the hem of the white wedding dress, and the collar was torn.

It couldn't be more embarrassing.

The joy of marriage disappeared in an instant.

My mother-in-law was very happy. She pulled the hem of my wedding dress and forced me to walk under the oilcloth shed.

I was stumbling as I walked, but she completely ignored me, just lifted her skirt and walked away.

No host, no flowers, nothing.

Just pushed me in between a few tables.

The mother-in-law announced loudly.

"This is Laney Bell, Felix's wife. She is from a big city, well-educated, and pretty."

"The key is," she paused for a moment and looked at everyone.

"The key point is that she is pregnant with Felix's son. This is really double happiness."

The relatives around me all looked at me strangely, and they commented on me like a clown.

A middle-aged lady looked at me and said with a pout.

"Hey, getting pregnant before marriage. Felix, you have such an undisciplined wife."

"Yeah, nobody will get pregnant before getting married. Aren't you afraid of being laughed at? And you said it out loud."

"Yes, and she calls it double happiness."

I was so ashamed. No wonder others said that to me.

That was what I thought myself.

But that's not what my mother-in-law and Felix said at the time. They said that the custom here was to get pregnant first and then have the wedding?

Seeing that no one had anything good to say, the mother-in-law lost her joy.

Her face looked sad.

"Hey, don't say such harsh words. There are many such cases in today's society."

"How can you conclude that my daughter-in-law is not decent?"

I looked at my mother-in-law and Felix, but they both avoided my gaze.

If they didn't help me clarify, then I had to say it myself. I couldn't take the blame for this misconduct.

These aunties would say that you were in trouble even if you were fine. What's more, I was indeed pregnant. I didn't know what kind of rumors would be spread about me in a few days.

I was just about to open my mouth when my mother-in-law gave another aunt a look and the aunt spoke first.

"Hey, stop talking."

"After all, she is Felix's bride, young and ignorant. It's fine as long as it is Felix's kid. Don't worry about it."

What she said was even more outrageous, and I couldn't help but retort to her.

"If it wasn't Felix's child, could it be yours?"

My mother-in-law immediately took over the topic.

"Yes, it's enough to know that it belongs to Felix. We won't care about anything else."

The old lady said again, "Felix, as you married such an unruly woman, you can't give her a betrothal gift."

"I will. of course I will give it," Felix replied.

The mother-in-law said again with a look of grievance.

"We still have to give a little. After all, Felix gets a wife. Let's just give a symbolic gift, 1,000."

After she said that, she took out a red envelope that she had prepared long ago from her bag and gave it to me.

"Laney, this is the betrothal gift that mom promised you. Keep it."

"Everybody, please help me keep an eye on it, in case I'll be maligned that I give nothing."

I was stunned. Holding a light and old red envelope in my hand, I questioned my mother-in-law.

"But we agreed on 100 thousand dollars, didn't we?"

She smiled gently.

"Originally it was agreed to be 100 thousand dollars, but the situation is different now."

"100 thousand dollars is the money to marry a virgin girl, not a slut who has lost her virginity."

I was so angry that I was shaking all over.

Didn't they know why I'm pregnant?

Didn't they know whose child I was pregnant with?

They clearly said that the custom here was to get pregnant first and then get married.

Now, they were insulting me with my pregnancy.

One thousand dollars, well!

Tears were streaming down my face and I looked at Felix with red eyes.

I thought he would help me.

But he said something that made me want to kill him immediately.

Throw Him into the Dust. Never to Rise Again

"Laney, the betrothal gift was given by my mother. I can't decide it. Look, you're pregnant anyway, and we've had a wedding."

"It doesn't matter whether the money is given to you or my mother keeps it. We are family, so the money belongs to us all."

It really pissed me off.

What did that mean?
