Died in the Rival's House

I watched helplessly as he dialed my number, but before the call could connect, the door to the forensic laboratory was pushed open by a young officer, Leo.

He poked his head in, carrying a thermos.

"Ken, this was just delivered for you by Violet!"

A flash of resentment crossed Ken's eyes, and he hung up the phone without hesitation.

"You see, she couldn't have gotten into trouble. Troublesome people live a thousand years!"

Only Wade still harbored a sliver of doubt.

"You say it was delivered by Violet? Did you see her?"

Leo looked puzzled for a moment, then said decisively, "It was delivered by Violet. She stopped me right outside the police station and asked me to give it to Ken!"

"Did you see her face?"

Leo tilted his head, recalling with some hesitation.

"She was wearing a mask and a cap with the brim pulled down low, but her figure and the tone of her voice were similar to Violet's. It couldn't be wrong!"

Wade wanted to say something more but was abruptly interrupted by Ken.

"I said, it definitely isn't Violet. She could never get into trouble. She's the most malicious one!"

I was overwhelmed by sorrow, never expecting to be seen in such a light by my husband.

But clearly, I had been dead for several days, and there was no way I could have sent the thermos.

I knew what was inside, so I hoped he would open it.

Ken, however, tossed it into the trash can without a second thought.

"From now on, just throw away anything she sends. It's disgusting!"

I was beside myself with anger, lunging to pick up the thermos, only to have my fingers pass right through it.

Wade sighed and was about to speak when Ken's phone rang.

It was from Lily.

He answered, his tone softening, even the furrow in his brow smoothing out.

"Lily, what's wrong?"

"Ken, just now... someone knocked on the door, and when I asked who it was, they didn't say anything. I'm so scared. What should I do?"

Her delicate tone even made me feel sorry for her.

"Okay, I'll be right there. Wait for me!"

Ken grabbed his coat, ready to rush out the door, but Wade held him back.

"Ken, is it Lily again? You should keep some distance from her. I always feel something's off about that woman!"

Ken brushed off his hand impatiently.

"What's off about her? I think you're too used to being a cop, seeing everyone as suspicious."

I watched his anxious expression, my heart clenching painfully.

Only he, blind to the truth, thought Lily was so fragile that she needed his protection, never considering the countless mysteries that surrounded Lily.
