Chapter 3

"Mom, you finally smiled." From her hospital bed, Belle raised her small hand and touched the wrinkles on my face.

"It's all my fault. When I got sick, Mom stopped smiling. Mom, you should smile more. Mother's Day is coming soon and I've prepared a gift for you," my daughter said.

Thinking of that gift, my heart clenched tightly. In my previous life, the doctor asked me to collect Belle's belongings. Under her pillow, I found a pile of unfinished paper star.

They were meant to be her Mother's Day gift to me. I held the paper star, crying and begging Belle to wake up, pleading with the doctors to save her. But even until my death, I couldn't bring Belle back.

"Mom, what's wrong?" Belle's words pulled me back to reality. I saw the worried look on her face and quickly embraced her.

I said, "You are the best. It's you being safe and healthy is the best gift for Mom."

In this life, no one and nothing would interfere with Belle's surgery. Even if it cost me everything, I would ensure my daughter survives!

After Belle fell asleep, I couldn't resist taking a few photos and posting them online. I wanted to capture her sweet and understanding nature. A few likes and comments praised Belle.

After a long day at the hospital, I went home to rest. As soon as I reached my door, I saw Jude and Linda squatting outside. "Why did you change the lock? You made Mom wait out here for so long," Jude complained.

"Where's the money?" I reminded them.

Jude was about to lose his temper, but Linda quickly tugged at his sleeve. In the end, they reluctantly transferred the remaining thirty-eight thousand to me.

Once they were inside, they started with some polite conversation, first apologizing and then gradually steering the topic towards Belle.

"The doctors said Belle wouldn't live past eight. Instead of spending money on her treatment, why not save it and have another child? It would be best if it's a boy. Boys are stronger," said Linda.

I took a deep breath and pulled out the divorce papers I had printed from my bag. "Sign this. If you refuse, I'll file a lawsuit," I said.
