I opened the dossier, taking my time. I let the silence stretch until every other voice had faded. Then I asked a single question.

"Who proposed this plan?"

The room went still.

Walter's finger tapped the mahogany table once. "I did."

"When?"

"Last month."

"Why is my signature missing from the Board records?"

A crack appeared in his composure. "You weren't present during that period—"

"My absence," I cut in, "does not remove me from the authorization chain."

The atmosphere solidified.

I slid the materials across the table. "This plan triggers three critical risk-control violations. First, information asymmetry. Second, undisclosed related-party transactions."

I lifted my gaze, locking eyes with Walter.

"Third—a direct conflict of interest within management."

Heads lowered. Directors flipped through documents, pages rustling in the quiet. Others shifted in their seats, recalculating alliances in real-time.

Walter couldn't sit still. "Willow, we can discuss the specifics in private."

"Business is business." My tone stayed level. "This is not a private matter."

Paul Salazar cleared his throat. "This proposal requires re-evaluation."

"I suggest," I continued, "we establish a Special Task Force immediately. Freeze the relevant authorizations and suspend all forward movement until the audit concludes."

No one objected.

The collective exhale was audible.

When the meeting adjourned, I didn't make it far before being intercepted.

"Ms. Harding."

A group of shareholders who rarely initiated contact with me.

"Regarding follow-up operations—may we coordinate directly with you?"

I gave a curt nod. "Yes."

At the elevator bank, Walter caught up.

"You knew," he accused, voice low. "You knew about this long ago."

I pressed the call button. "Your biggest mistake was assuming I was blind."
