Chapter 2

"You're sick." I frowned in disgust and elbowed his stomach, preparing to open the door and get out. That was when I heard another soft chuckle.

"Next time you have that kind of need, you can come to me. I'm quite skilled."

What a ridiculous man.

After saying that, Damien reluctantly loosened his grip. I did not show him any regard and immediately got out of the car. However, I made sure to maintain a proper smile in front of outsiders. "After you, Mr. Gray."

Damien's eyes were dark and intense, but he still complied and got out of the car.

We soon arrived at the conference room. He went in first, and I followed behind.

"Long time no see, Mr. Cross."

A refined man standing across from us smiled warmly. Recalling who he was, I replied politely, "Long time no see, Mr. Morgan."

Marcus Morgan had pursued me for three years, but his attitude had always remained courteous throughout. Even when I rejected him, he behaved gracefully without pestering me. My impression of him was quite favorable because of this.

After the meeting ended, I gathered my files and turned to leave with Damien, but Marcus suddenly approached.

I looked puzzled. "Is there something else?"

He smiled. "Mr. Cross, may I have your personal contact information?"

I was about to politely decline when Damien walked over with a smile. "Mr. Morgan, this makes me suspect you're trying to poach my people."

His hand rested somewhat possessively on my shoulder, like a declaration of ownership. Even his gaze carried provocation as he looked at Marcus.

I frowned, instinctively wanting to shake off his hand, but I had to suppress the urge since we were in front of others.

"Who wouldn't want excellent employees?" Marcus smiled. "I'm just giving Mr. Cross an option. He can come to me anytime."

I nodded. "I appreciate the thought, Mr. Morgan. We can always contact each other through official channels."

With that, I turned and left.

I was busy. I had a pile of matters waiting for me to handle in the office. I had no time to participate in petty disputes between two men.

Over the next few days back at the company, I kept busy handling official business, and nothing eventful happened. Since it was a project transition period, I had to stay up late working on proposals as I was the lead. Even after everyone else had left, I was still working overtime at my desk.

Around 11:00 pm, a cup of coffee was suddenly placed beside me. I assumed it was my assistant and said without looking up, "Thanks, Liam."

A familiar low chuckle sounded. I turned around to see the face I least wanted to see and frowned. "What are you doing here?"

"Seeing you working overtime, I felt sorry for you as your superior and decided to reward you with coffee. Is that not allowed?"

"The best way to thank me would be to stay away from me," I shot back immediately.

Despite my words, I still drank the coffee. After all, given my condition, I really could not handle staying up late without caffeine.

At midnight, I finally finished the proposal and got ready to go home. However, when I looked up, Damien was still there.

"Why are you still here?" I asked.

Damien leaned lazily against my workstation. "I've been waiting to drive you home."

"I don't need you to drive me." I packed up my laptop and turned to leave.

"It's raining outside. Are you sure you want to walk back?"

I did not respond, which was basically an agreement. Since my home was just a ten-minute walk from the company, I usually walked home for exercise. However, when I reached the entrance, I suddenly realized I had not brought an umbrella.

After a moment of hesitation, I walked into the rain anyway, planning to run back quickly.

A car honked at me. "Get in, Mr. Cross. I'll drive you."

The car window rolled down, revealing Damien's lazy expression as he looked at me with calculating eyes.
