Chapter 2

In my past life, it was also me who was chosen to be the mate of the Lycan Prince.

I was born into the prestigious Parker family, my father the Beta of the Lycan King's pack, and my brother deeply favored by the Lycan King, his future as bright as the stars.

Thus, it was only natural that I would mate with Donovan Brooks, the Lycan Prince.

And for me, I was willing.

At fourteen, during the full moon celebration, I got separated from my escort and stood alone by the bridge, waiting for someone to find me.

A group of rogues approached, their words crude and mocking.

I clenched my fists, ready to shift and defend myself, when a figure in a red hoodie suddenly appeared.

He moved like a shadow, swiftly tackling the rogues with a growl, sending them sprawling into the water.

In the moonlight, he stood tall, his eyes gleaming with a fierce, untamed light.

"Hey, which pack are you from?" he asked, his voice casual yet commanding. "What are you doing out here alone so late?"

"The Parkers," I replied, my voice steady though my heart pounded. "I got separated from my family."

He muttered "Parkers" under his breath, then sent his guard to escort me home before disappearing into the crowd.

His vibrant figure blended into the sea of people, his back radiating a carefree joy.

Later, I discovered that Donovan had snuck out to meet Reyna Bishop.

At the next pack gathering, I recognized the boy from that night—Donovan Brooks, the Lycan Prince.

Our eyes met across the room, and he winked at me, placing a finger to his lips, signaling me to keep his secret.

I couldn’t help but smile, nodding slightly.

Spring breezes carried my budding feelings, and before I knew it, my hand would unconsciously write two words in my journal… Donovan.

When the Lycan Queen chose a Parker daughter to be the Lycan Prince's mate, everyone was pleased.

Everyone, except Donovan, who knelt outside the royal chambers all night, insisting on choosing his own mate.

Unaware of this, I stayed at home, learning the intricate rituals of the royal pack, filled with joy as I prepared to become his Luna.

Before the marking ceremony, the Lycan Princess invited the young members of the prominent packs to her mountain lodge, and naturally, Donovan and I were among the guests.

Donovan was nowhere to be seen throughout the gathering, while I was surrounded by the daughters of the elite, congratulated on my impending union.

But chaos erupted in a corner, where a girl named Reyna stood, tears streaming down her face, her dress soaked in spilled soup, looking utterly humiliated.

Donovan stood nearby, his expression unreadable.

Some whispered mockingly that the daughter of a low-ranking Delta had no place among the elite.

I stepped forward, offering to have Reyna taken to a private room and giving her one of my spare dresses.

As the sun set, I arranged for one of our family’s cars to take her home.

Donovan noticed this and muttered a quiet "Thank you" to me.

I accepted his gratitude, though I didn’t fully understand it.

The next day, Reyna’s body was found on the outskirts of the city.

It was a rogue attack, the rogues unaware of the Parker insignia on the car, burning and looting without restraint.

I was terrified, though everyone reassured me it wasn’t my fault. Still, I felt responsible for Reyna’s death and fell gravely ill.

Meanwhile, Donovan led his warriors to wipe out the rogue den, leaving the mountain soaked in blood, no survivors left.

On our marking night, the room was bathed in the soft glow of moonlight.

I looked at Donovan, my eyes filled with shy anticipation.

He tilted my chin up, his expression unreadable. "Do you love me?"

I nodded, my voice firm. "Of course."

His sharp features softened, and after a moment, he murmured, almost to himself, "Good."

The night was a whirlwind of passion, the moonlight casting long shadows across the room.

In the first year of our marking, Donovan treated me well. He showed no interest in other women, pouring all his affection into me.

The city whispered that the new Luna was a fortunate woman.

Though I struggled with the responsibilities of being the Luna, my heart was always filled with joy.

I devoted myself to Donovan, hoping for a lifetime of companionship and harmony.

In the second year, the Lycan Queen spoke to me with a gentle smile, subtly urging me to produce an heir for the pack.

I glanced at my still-flat stomach and nodded silently.

By the third year, the pack began sending potential mates to the royal court, but Donovan dismissed them all, refusing to take any.

One night, I tentatively suggested he consider a few.

Donovan pulled the blanket over my eyes, his kisses trailing down my cheek.

His voice was tender. "I only want you."

The next day, when I went to attend the Lycan Queen, she found a reason to punish me, making me kneel in front of her chambers.

Her voice, though soft, was laced with icy blades. "Luna, you’ve disappointed me. I thought you were more sensible."

By the fifth year, I still hadn’t conceived, and Zahra Parker, the Luna, became known throughout the city as the jealous mate.

The Lycan Queen, the Lycan King, even my own family, and the man I loved, all blamed me for my inadequacy.

I grew more exhausted, slowly becoming a hollow shell, my spirit broken, my health deteriorating.
