Back To the Day When the Intern Doctor Slandered Me
Chapter 2
William was stunned by my outburst, and Lucy, standing beside him, immediately tore up, looking pitiful and wronged.
William's temper flared in an instant. "Tina, what's gotten into you? Are you out of your mind? "What did Lucy ever do to you? And now you're laying hands on her? Have you no shame?"
Watching him comfort Lucy, holding her hand, I couldn't help but sneer and thought, "He has the nerve to ask if I have no shame? I just pushed her a little, and he practically cradled her in his arms. Who is the one without shame here?"
Ever since Lucy started her internship at our hospital, William, my supposed boyfriend, had been bending over backward for her.
Their constant flirting disgusted me even now.
I said, "If you care so much about Lucy, why don't you two just be together? I'll gladly step aside. But today, this patient is not your responsibility!"
William's face turned red with anger at my words. "Tina, I'm just calling you out on your bullying. Is this how you treat an intern? Even though I'm your boyfriend, I won't just stand by and watch you behave like this. Apologize to Lucy now."
His eyes locked onto mine, making it clear he wouldn't let this go until I apologized.
But I couldn't care less about these two shameless fools.
I sat back down and quickly ordered a series of tests for the patient, urging him to get them done right away.
The patient, after all, was innocent in this mess.
As much as I wanted to tear William and Lucy apart, the priority was to get the patient adequately diagnosed. Only then could the proper treatment be given.
If a brain hemorrhage was caught and treated quickly, there was no reason it had to be fatal.
However, as the patient took the test orders from me, he was shocked.
Lucy had only prescribed him cheap medication, costing just a few dozen dollars.
But the tests I ordered were going to run him at least a few hundred dollars.
The patient looked at the bill and immediately got upset. "Are you trying to scam me? It was only a few dozen dollars earlier, and now it's suddenly a few hundred dollars?"
Before I could explain, William slammed his hand down on my desk. "Tina, you're just ordering random tests to squeeze money out of the patient. That's against the rules! Even if you're my girlfriend, I won't hesitate to report you!"
Lucy looked at me and said, "Tina, so this is all about me getting in the way of your cash flow? But it's not easy for patients to earn money. How can you do this?"
It was unbelievable. I never imagined these two could be so good at twisting the truth.
Lucy, especially, was acting like some sort of saint. It made me sick just looking at her.
Her medical skills were barely passable. She mistook a brain hemorrhage for a simple headache and didn't even bother to run basic tests.
And when things went wrong, she only cried and played the victim. I was so angry I could've slapped her right then and there!
But I was busy trying to reason with the patient, explaining that his situation was serious and that he might have a brain hemorrhage.
After this whole commotion, though, the patient became even more reluctant. "It's just a headache. Why are you acting like I'm on death's doorstep?"
William, adding fuel to the fire, shoved me aside. "Get out of here! Are you trying to ruin the hospital's reputation? Lucy, come over here and treat him!"
I scoffed, "She's just an intern. She needs a supervising doctor with her to treat patients. What you're doing is against the rules."
The moment I mentioned regulations, William's voice grew even louder. "You've got the nerve to talk about rules when you're the one doing shady things? Am I not a doctor? Am I not qualified to supervise Lucy?"
His reaction didn't surprise me one bit. After all, he had said the same thing in my previous life.
But I kept my cool and asked, "And if something goes wrong, will you take responsibility?"
Without a moment's hesitation, William shot back. "I'm the associate director! Do you really think I can't handle the consequences?"
With that, he grabbed Lucy and started prescribing medication to the patient.
I tried to speak up several times, but William and Lucy shouted me down. Even the patient joined in, cursing me as if I were some heartless monster, accusing me of only caring about money.
Good advice often fell on deaf ears, especially when it was unwelcome.
Seeing that my good intentions were being twisted into something vile, I eventually gave up trying to intervene.
After they were done, the patient even threatened to report me and said I should get ready to be fired.
I watched him leave with a blank expression. Little did he know, he might not get the chance to report me.
William turned to me, his tone self-righteous. "If you apologize to Lucy right now, and she forgives you, I'll pretend this never happened."
The sheer absurdity of his demand almost made me laugh.
Ever since Lucy arrived at the hospital, William had been groveling at her feet, all because she had some connections.
I said, "Sorry, but if you enjoy playing the lapdog, that's your thing. I'm not into it."
