Chapter 1

The sacred grove of the Silvermoon Pack was alive with activity as I carefully arranged the ritual herbs for tonight's healing ceremony. My fingers traced the edges of the moonstone altar, feeling the smooth, cool surface beneath my touch. Three years of blindness had heightened my other senses—the earthy scent of sage and wolfsbane filled my nostrils, the distant murmur of pack members preparing for the ritual hummed in my ears.

I adjusted my posture, tilting my head slightly as I'd trained myself to do, appearing to listen while actually concealing the fact that I could now see shadows and blurred outlines—the first signs my sight was returning. The full moon tonight would complete what had already begun.

"Just a little more vervain on the eastern corner, Luna," Elara, our ancient pack healer, instructed gently.

I nodded, reaching for the dried purple flowers. "Like this?"

"Perfect," she said, her voice carrying a warmth that few in the pack showed me. "You have a natural instinct for healing rituals."

I smiled, though my heart wasn't in it. Tonight's ceremony was my greatest hope—the rare celestial alignment that might finally restore my sight and awaken my dormant wolf. Alexander had promised to be by my side throughout, his support unwavering as always.

Or so I thought.

As my fingers pressed the vervain into place, something strange happened. A whisper, then voices—clear as day—flooded my mind. The pack mind-link, which had always been closed to me as a wolfless Luna, suddenly opened like a door blown wide by an unseen wind.

"—can't believe she still has no clue." Alexander's voice, unmistakable even in thought-form.

"Three years of the 'Blind Luna' game, and she's never suspected a thing." Caleb's cruel laugh followed, a sound I recognized from pack meetings.

"Your turn next week, Ryan. Try not to be so gentle this time—she almost caught on when you actually asked if she was comfortable during the last pack run." Alexander again, his tone mocking.

Ryan's voice came next, hesitant. "Maybe we should stop. The ceremony might actually work, and if her wolf awakens—"

"She'll still be blind," Alexander cut in. "Besides, Isabella's training with the Lycan Council ends soon. Once my true mate returns, I can finally end this charade."

The herbs slipped from my suddenly numb fingers. My breath caught painfully in my chest.

"Luna Victoria?" Elara's concerned voice seemed to come from miles away. "Are you unwell?"

I forced myself to breathe, to speak. "Just... tired. May I rest before the ceremony?"

"Of course, child." Her weathered hand touched my shoulder. "I'll escort you back."

Somehow, I made it through the motions—the careful steps back to the pack house, the grateful nod as Elara left me at my chamber door. Only when I was alone did I allow myself to collapse.

Blind Luna game. Charade. True mate.

My trembling hands found the bedside table, knocking over several of the healer's flasks left there from my morning treatments. The crash echoed my breaking heart. Three years of memories flashed through my mind—Alexander's gentle touches, his whispered promises, the way he'd guide me through pack ceremonies, how he'd describe the moon to me on our walks.

All lies.

I pressed my palms against my eyes, willing the tears not to fall. The mind-link had gone silent, but their words echoed relentlessly. They had taken turns pretending to be him. Using scent blockers. Laughing at my ignorance. And Alexander—my mate, my Alpha, the man who had supposedly saved me after the rogue attack that killed my parents—was waiting for someone else.

Isabella. His true mate.

Which meant our mating ceremony had been... what? A mockery? A convenient way to have a Luna while he waited?

I crawled onto the bed, curling into myself as the betrayal washed over me in waves. Every kiss, every touch, every promise—I couldn't trust a single memory. Which ones had been Alexander? Which had been Ryan or Caleb or who knows how many others?

Two nights later, I sat alone by the window of my chamber, my fingers absently tracing patterns on the glass. The healing ceremony had been postponed due to my "sudden illness," but something was happening inside me regardless. A stirring. A presence I'd never felt before.

My wolf. After years of silence, I could feel her consciousness brushing against mine.

As I sat in contemplation, another realization struck me. I counted days in my head, then counted again. My cycle, always regular, was late. Very late.

My hand drifted to my belly, resting there as a terrible understanding dawned. If I was pregnant—and somehow, I knew I was—the father wasn't Alexander.

It was one of his impersonators. Given the timing, most likely Ryan.

I should have felt horror. Instead, a cold, clarifying resolve washed over me. My wolf stirred again, stronger this time, as if responding to my changing emotions.

"They think I'm weak," I whispered to the empty room. "They think I'm helpless."

I rose from my seat, moving to the small vanity. For the first time, I could make out my own blurred reflection—proof my sight was indeed returning.

"Let them think that," I continued, my voice hardening with each word. "Let them believe their 'Blind Luna' is still in the dark."

My wolf growled in agreement, and I felt something I hadn't experienced in three years: power.
