For His First Love's Leg, the Alpha Stripped Me of My Right to Be a Mother Novel Cover

For His First Love's Leg, the Alpha Stripped Me of My Right to Be a Mother

A seven-year-old's innocent question shatters a Luna's fragile peace: why does his mother still have two legs while Vanessa relearns to walk? Hours earlier, she lost both her baby and her womb to hemorrhaging. Damon, the Alpha she loved, had chosen to administer the pack's sole Moon Regeneration Serum to Vanessa's minor injury instead of saving their dying child. When leaked records expose Vanessa's pain as fabricated, the Luna's grief ignites into quiet fury. Leaving her Luna ring behind, she vanishes from pack territory, stripped of motherhood and bound to a future stolen for a lie.

Chapter 4

I read the report until the letters stopped looking like words.

Superficial lacerations.

No vascular damage.

No fracture.

Normal nerve response.

Amputation risk: zero.

Vanessa's leg had never been in danger.

The Moon Regeneration Serum had not saved her from disability. It had erased cuts that would have healed with stitches and antibiotics.

My child had died while Damon spent the pack's only miracle on a lie.

At six thirty, the door opened.

Damon carried white lilies.

I almost laughed at the choice. They smelled like funerals now.

"How are you feeling?" he asked.

"Put those outside."

He set the vase on the windowsill instead. "You used to like lilies."

"I used to like a lot of things."

His shoulders tightened. "Can we not fight this morning?"

I folded the report beneath the blanket.

"Did you read Vanessa's medical file before you authorized the serum?"

Damon frowned. "We already discussed this."

"No. You told me what she said. I want to know what you verified."

"The emergency room was chaos."

"Did you read the scans?"

"No."

"Did you ask Dr. Evans to show you the fracture?"

"No."

"Did you speak to the trauma radiologist?"

His patience cracked. "I watched them cut her out of a destroyed car. She couldn't move her leg. She was screaming that they were preparing an amputation. I made a decision."

"Based on Vanessa's screaming."

"Based on the situation in front of me."

I pulled the photocopy free and held it out.

"Then read the situation you didn't bother to look at."

Damon took the paper.

His eyes moved across the page once.

Then again.

The blood drained from his face.

"Where did you get this?"

"Does it matter?"

"This could be fabricated."

I stared at him.

Even now, his first instinct was to defend her.

"The emergency intake number matches her bracelet," I said. "The scan timestamp is eleven minutes after the crash. The attending signature is from Dr. Price, not Evans. Call radiology if you want to hear it from someone you can't accuse of jealousy."

Damon turned toward the door.

"I'm going to speak to Evans."

"Of course you are."

He stopped. "What does that mean?"

"It means you still think the important question is who lied to you."

"Someone manipulated an emergency decision. That matters."

"Not to me."

He looked back.

"Aria -"

"You were my husband before you were anyone's victim. You had one dose and two patients. You didn't verify either condition. You heard Vanessa cry, and you decided I was the expendable one because the surgeons could keep my heart beating without the serum."

"I didn't know her injury was minor."

"You didn't know mine would cost me my uterus either."

His face twisted. "I was told there was no time."

"And you believed everything that made choosing her easier."

He crumpled the edge of the report in his fist.

"I would never choose to kill our baby."

"Intent doesn't resurrect anyone."

The room went silent.

Damon pulled out his phone. I watched him call radiology, then Dr. Price, then the emergency charge nurse. Each conversation stripped another layer from his certainty. Dr. Price confirmed the original images showed no fracture. The charge nurse confirmed Vanessa arrived stable and walked three assisted steps before Evans ordered everyone out. By the third call, Damon's hand was shaking.

"She told me she couldn't feel her foot," he said after hanging up.

"And you trusted her fear over my medical reality."

"I thought I knew her."

"You thought knowing her feelings was more important than knowing my condition."

He sat down hard. For once, there was no defense left in his face.

Damon sat in the visitor chair, suddenly looking less like an Alpha and more like a man who had finally reached the edge of his own certainty.

"What do you want me to do?" he asked.

For three years, I had wanted that question.

When Vanessa called after midnight, I wanted him to ask what I needed before leaving our bed. When elders whispered that Noah's biological mother belonged beside the Alpha, I wanted him to ask how much humiliation I could bear. When I got pregnant, I wanted him to ask what kind of future I wanted for our child.

Now there was nothing he could offer that I still wanted.

"Process my discharge."

His head lifted. "No."

"That wasn't a request."

"You had major surgery yesterday."

"And this hospital has already proved where its priorities are."

"I'll move you to a private clinic."

"I am going home."

"Fine. Then I'm taking you."

I did not argue. Arguing would only slow me down.

An hour later, I sat in the back of Damon's SUV with the discharge packet on my lap. He drove carefully, glancing at me through the mirror every few seconds.

Neither of us spoke.

At the pack estate, staff rushed to meet us. Damon dismissed them and carried my bag upstairs himself.

When we reached the master bedroom, he pulled back the comforter.

"Rest. I'll have Dr. Price come here this afternoon."

I sat on the edge of the mattress.

"Where are you going?"

"Back to the hospital."

I already knew.

"Vanessa?"

"She's being discharged."

He hesitated, then added, "Her apartment has stairs. I'm putting her in the downstairs guest suite until her stitches come out."

I looked at him.

He looked guilty, but he did not change the decision.

That was all I needed.

When he went downstairs to take a call, I phoned Rachel. She did not waste time asking whether I was sure. I gave her the hospital intake number, the surgeon's timeline, and Emily's copied report. Rachel told me the emergency provision was stronger than she had expected: a bonded mate could sever unilaterally after a documented decision that caused permanent reproductive harm while a safer protected resource was knowingly diverted.

"If you invoke it," she warned, "the magical backlash will be severe. You are still recovering."

"Can he stop it?"

"Not if the council witness validates the evidence first."

"Do it."

By the time Damon drove away, the confirmation code was already in my inbox. I printed the ritual page from the study and signed the legal filing beneath it. Every stroke of the pen hurt less than staying.

I waited until the sound of his car disappeared down the drive.

Then I opened the nightstand drawer, took out the mate-severance papers my lawyer had prepared a month ago, and signed my name.
