Chapter 2

Returning to the Wolfe's residence, I found the grand gate and the silk decorations were still up, which showed a sign of festive celebration. I recalled entering through these doors in my previous life with high hopes, only to be sent by my husband to another man's bed.

I entered the residence.

The servants were stunned.

"Sandra, you... you're back. I thought..."

The man behind me held me, his voice choked with emotion.

"Let go of me."

My voice was calm and emotionless.

Jeremy stiffened and then released his hold.

He was still in his wedding dress from the previous day, his eyes red and bloodshot, as though he hadn't slept all night.

The sight of him looking at me with such deep affection would touch anyone's heart.

He acted so well. What a skillful actor.

When we first met, he was a poor student, able to eat only once every three days, living in a dilapidated church.

I, on the other hand, came from a prestigious family. Though I was an unloved illegitimate daughter, I was still not someone Jeremy could easily attach himself to.

In my previous life, I was convinced of his potential. I provided him with a place to stay and supported him financially for his studies.

I was hoping that after he became successful, he would marry me and stay by my side forever.

But human nature was hard to predict.

Jeremy began his performance as soon as we were inside.

He slapped himself in the face. "Sandra, it's all my fault that you've suffered such humiliation."

He reached out and grabbed my sleeve. "I was going to find you but was trapped here by Mr. Cooper's subordinates. They threatened me, saying that if I searched for you, they would ruin your reputation. Sandra, I was afraid..."

I watched him with calm disdain as he performed his grief with great skill. I was thoroughly disgusted.

"Enough."

I shook off his hand.

Jeremy seemed momentarily stunned, then snapped back to reality, and pulled me towards him. "Sandra, it was Mr. Cooper who forced me. It's not my fault. But don't worry, Sandra. I won't despise you. I'll treat you well for the rest of my life."

I could no longer hold back a scoff, tugging forcefully at Jeremy's belt. His outer dress fell open, revealing his undergarments.

Jeremy's body stiffened, and he held my hand that was opening his dress. "What... what are you doing?"

I smirked, "Didn't you say you wouldn't despise me?"

Jeremy stared at me with a forced smile. "Sandra, of course, I don't despise you. But you've just returned and gone through so much. I can't bear to..."

"I don't mind. What are you worried about?"

I stroked his chest and said softly, "Or is it that what you say isn't true, and you're just deceiving me?"

Cornered by me, Jeremy showed a hint of pain on his face, but his eyes held anger.

"Sandra, don't you know how I feel about you? To hear such hurtful words, it truly hurts me," he said, shaking off my hand and heading toward the door.

"You're tired. Take a rest first. When you're calm, we'll talk about it."

Calculating carefully, I realized that Jeremy should have already been with his beloved woman by this time, and that woman was pregnant with his child.

His plan to send me to Bryant was not only to curry favor with Bryant for his career advancement but also to have Bryant, who was said to be violent and murderous, kill me, allowing him to officially bring the woman he truly loved into his life.

Unfortunately, Bryant couldn't bear to let me die.
