Chapter 2

I looked up at Ella.

She walked over, supporting her belly, “What are you looking at? Let me tell you, if you don't give me the house, I'll abort this child!”

Upon hearing this, my parents became anxious.

“Olivia, listen to Ella and quickly transfer the house to her.” My mother grabbed my hand, and even her nails dug into my flesh.

My father was even more furious, “If you don't hand over the house, I'll kill you!”

Upon hearing this, I trembled again.

In my previous life, I was beaten to death by my father, and the suffocating pain still lingered in my mind.

Because Thomas was lazy and had a bad temper, no woman was interested in him.

It was a few years ago when I used all my savings to help him marry Ella.

Since Ella married into our family, she had always acted as the mistress of the house.

Whenever someone disagreed with Ella, she would threaten to go back to her parents' home.

And the child in Ella's belly had been eagerly anticipated by our parents for several years.

So in my previous life, when Ella threatened to abort the child, my parents turned against me immediately.

Feeling the pain in my body, I looked at my anxious mother and felt a deep sense of pain in my heart.

I had sacrificed so much for this family, thinking that I was a family member, but in reality, they only regarded me as a tool to make money!

And in my previous life, the reason why I refused Ella's request was simple.

My parents were old, and it was inconvenient for them to live in the countryside. so I wanted to bring them to live in the city, where the medical conditions were much better.

But before I had a chance to say this, I was killed.

I closed my eyes, held back the tears that were about to come out, and then forced a smile.

I said, "Mom and Dad, it's not that I don't want to give the house to Ella now. In our community, when renovating, the homeowner needs to apply for the qualification certificate in person, and the property management will come to inspect at any time. The process is particularly cumbersome."

"During the renovation, there will be a lot of pollution. Ella is pregnant, and I'm afraid it will be bad for her health, so I want to renovate it first and then transfer it to Ella."

After hearing what I said, my mother finally let go of the hand pinching my arm and smiled at me, saying, "Olivia, you are really a thoughtful daughter."

Ella, after hearing what I said, said discontentedly, "Since it's so troublesome, then give me the house after the renovation."

I lowered my head and replied, "Okay, Ella."

Thomas reached out and patted my shoulder, with a smirk on his face, and said, "Olivia, if you listen obediently, I will treat you well."

I nodded obediently, but in my heart, I already had my own plan.

Ella said again, “You are a woman, and sooner or later you will get married. Why do you still need a house? It will become your husband’s at that time. Besides, I heard that men don't want to marry women who have a house.”

My parents also agreed with Ella's point.

I nodded along, pretending to be obedient and sensible. All of sudden, this family became harmonious and happy, as if the tense atmosphere just now was an illusion.

After returning from the ancestral worship, Ella insisted on eating strawberry cake, so she asked me out to pick strawberry.

While collecting strawberry, I happened to meet my neighbor and childhood playmate Eric Colt, who was also picking strawberry.

As soon as Eric saw me, he came over and poured all the strawberry in his basket into mine.

I shook my head and wanted to give them back, but Eric stopped me.

Eric took the initiative to get close and said, “Olivia, you must be very busy working in the big city. I can hardly see you all year round, only on special days like this.”

I nodded and replied, “I have a lot of work to do every day. That's why I don't have much time to come back.”

Eric continued, “Olivia, you have always been the smartest among us since we were young. Now you are even more amazing, being able to work in a big city.”

In response to Eric's praise, I replied with a thank you.

As we chatted, Eric got very close to me.

He looked at my face and said with a fascinated expression, “Olivia, I like you. Will you be my wife?”

“Although I don't have money, I swear I will treat you well!”

After saying that, Eric hugged me tightly.

I was so scared that I screamed and immediately pushed him away.

I quickly got up and refused, “Eric, I really don't like you. I have always treated you as a big brother.”

Eric had liked me since we were young. He had confessed to me a long time ago, and even his parents had come to my house for a marriage proposal.

But my parents kicked them out. I still remember my mom saying, “Your son wants to marry my daughter? In your dreams! When you have enough money, come again!”

Before, I thought I was my parents' precious treasure.

Now I knew that my parents just simply despised Eric's family for being poor.

After saying that, I carried the basket of strawberry and ran away.

So I didn't see Eric's face change after I left.
