Chapter 1

My mother-in-law was hospitalized after a car accident, and only my husband, a famous surgeon, could perform the surgery for her.

But he told me he was busy helping his girlfriend smash golden eggs at the Shopping Festival.

"Chelsea, I finally have a day off. So I just came here to help Yuliana smash some golden eggs. Could you please not make trouble for me?"

Before I could say anything else, my husband had already hung up the phone.

I called him again, but his phone was turned off.

That day,my mother-in-law died in the hospital.

——

"Chelsea, the glass that pierced Mrs. Mason's chest is pressing on the heart artery, causing the blood to flow too fast. Please call Director Mason and ask where he is."

Dr. Gavin came out of the emergency operating room, wiping his sweat and urging me,

"Tell Director Mason to hurry up. Mrs. Mason needs the surgery now."

I was panicked.

So, I call Seth Mason again.

Fortunately, the call finally went through.

"Chelsea, what's the matter now?"

Seth sounded impatient and disgusted on the other end of the phone.

"Come back now. Your mom is dying..."

Before I could finish, he hung up again.

I called him again, but his phone was turned off.

I fell to the ground and called again stubbornly.

I still got the prompt tone of Seth's phone being turned off.

My mother-in-law had always treated me like her own daughter.

I couldn't bear to let her die like this.

I slapped myself hard and forced myself to calm down.

Seth once mentioned that Yuliana Sienna bought a house in our community and got a special discount during the Shopping Festival from a decoration company.

I got up in a hurry and ran straight to the decoration company without any delay.

Yuliana and Seth were in front of the decoration company, as I expected.

My husband held another woman, keeping her from being run into by others.

They looked so intimate. Anyone would think they were a couple.

I had no time to think about that. I just strode over.

Seth noticed me and stopped.

When our eyes met, the tenderness in his eyes instantly turned into indifference.

"Chelsea, did you follow me? Aren't you tired of doing this?"

He berated me hard, his eyes full of disgust, as if I was a disgrace to him and shouldn't show up.

I ignored his bad attitude. All I could think of was my mother-in-law, who was in imminent danger. So, I anxiously grabbed him and tried to take him away.

"Your mom was hit by a car. Let's go to the hospital. Only you can save her now!"

Seth avoided my hand and looked at me with contempt and disgust.

I was like a clown vying for favor in his eyes.

"My mom called me half an hour ago and said she was taking a class at the senior citizen university. Can't you think of a better excuse before you lie?"

Seth was sure that I was lying to him.

Yuliana stood up and separated Seth and me, saying in a displeased tone,

"Chelsea, you can't be so cruel. Seth is just here to help me smash golden eggs. Why are you using his mother to get him back?"

"Mrs. Mason has treated you like her own daughter for so many years. How could you curse her?"

Her words made Seth treat me even more indifferently.

He growled,

"You are getting shameless these days. Even my mother has become a tool for you to win my favor. How could you?"

I didn't care what Seth thought of me. I just wanted to take him back to the hospital and let him save my mother-in-law.

"I swear everything I said is true! Your mom was hit by a car right after she left our house. The glass went into her chest, compressing her heart artery, and it is critical."

"She is in the operating room of the hospital you work for right now. If you think that I'm lying, you can call your mom to see if she can still answer your call."

Thinking of my mother-in-law being covered in blood, I was so anxious that I wanted to cry.

However, I didn't realize that my anxiety only made me a fool in Seth's eyes.

He sneered and looked at me with disdain and disgust.

Before Seth said anything, Yuliana spoke first,

"Chelsea, just think before lying. If Mrs. Mason was really sent to the hospital for emergency treatment, why didn't the hospital call Seth?"

"I know you are unhappy with Seth being here with me, but we are really just friends. You don't have to be paranoid all day and even use Mrs. Mason to cover up for you."

"Aren't you afraid that your curse may come true and something bad really happens to Mrs. Mason?"

"How could you be so selfish?"

After she finished speaking, Yuliana shook her head and sighed as if I had done something unforgivable.

I couldn't control my emotions, so I yelled at Yuliana, "Shut up!"

These words seemed to stimulate her a lot.

She acted aggrieved and said softly to Seth,

"Seth, she's being mean to me..."

Seth's face darkened instantly, and he was enraged.

"Chelsea Dalton, are you done? I'm just here to help Yuliana break some golden eggs. Why are you making such a scene?"

"It's tough for Yuliana these days. She has to work and decorate her house. I'm just lending a hand. What's wrong with that?"

"You are also a woman. It's fine if you don't understand Yuliana's hardships. But how could you be so unreasonable and mean to her?"

I was pissed off by his twisted logic.

But I had no time to argue with him.

I took a few deep breaths, suppressed the rage in my heart, and said in a hoarse voice,

"Seth Mason, just think about it. The person lying on the operating table is your own mother. Do you really want to disregard her life and death for this golden egg thing?"

My words made Seth hesitate for a moment. He looked at me with his eyes slightly squinted, and he seemed to believe me a little.

Before he could open his mouth, Yuliana interrupted him excitedly.

She pointed at the big screen in the hall and screamed,

"Seth, it's our turn! Let's go in!"

She shook Seth's arm and said softly, "Seth, you've always been lucky. I hope you can get me a 50% discount on decoration this time."

Seth couldn't say no to Yuliana, so he made a quick decision, "Okay. I'll get you a 50% discount."

After saying that, he and Yuliana walked into the decoration company.

I grabbed Seth's arm and begged,

"Your mom is still waiting for your help in the hospital. She is your mother. Your dad passed away early. She raised you alone. You can't just disregard her..."

Yuliana was only thinking about the 50% discount on decorations, so she urged,

"Seth, if we miss this, we won't be able to smash any golden eggs."

Recalling how well my mother-in-law treated me, I made up my mind, knelt in front of Seth, and begged him,

"Your mom is in a dire situation. Please go to the hospital with me. If we delay any longer, she will die. She will really die..."
