Chapter 5

I'd never been one to sit back and let things happen, so I put on a show.

Leah found me outside a shady clinic, looking haggard and pale.

She stared at me with a mix of anger and disbelief. "Did you really go through with it? Did you terminate the pregnancy?"

I flashed her a grin. "What else? Are you planning to give your fiancé to me?"

She shot me a scornful look. "Dream on."

I wasn't fazed. "Seriously, what do you see in that guy? Besides his pretty face, he's practically useless. As a fellow woman, let me give you a tip. Don't let him fool you. Don't end up like me—conned out of money and affection, then dumped. Why would I want to have a child with a jerk like him?"

Leah eyed me with suspicion. "You really don't know his true identity? No wonder. Otherwise, you'd have gone to great lengths to keep the baby, you idiot."

With that, Leah strutted into the clinic.

Soon after, I got a call from the doctor inside. "Ms. Foster, I've followed your instructions. She didn't suspect anything."

"Good."

I hung up and sent the doctor a generous tip, assuring him that I wouldn't expose the clinic or its doctors who moonlighted there.

At that moment, I received a text message: [Cecilia, Leah has pulled all her people off you.]

I replied: [Thanks for the heads-up.]

[However…]

I said: [Yeah?]

[It seems like there were two groups watching you. Stay cautious.]

Two groups? I couldn't figure out who else I might have offended.

After years in this business, no one was better at tailing or spying than I was.

If anything, the biggest oversight was my ex being a wealthy heir.

I thought, Is he that good at hiding his true self, or am I just that gullible?

For three years, he's used me for everything—food, drink, you name it. The more I think about it, the angrier I become. So he was afraid I'd cling to him once I found out his real identity, huh? Well, Liam, you'd better watch out!
