After Losing His Daughter, He Finally Regretted it!

After my last prayer, I went with the abbot to place Jasmine's urn in the columbarium.

The columbarium had 99 niches, each labeled with a number.

Jasmine always loved the number 99, so I chose niche number 99.

Just as the abbot was about to place Jasmine's urn, Melanie's voice came annoyingly. "Wait!

Shirley, can you give up that niche for me? I hope Stella lives to 99 in her next life."

I turned around to see Melanie pulling her usual pitiful act, tugging incessantly at Tucker's sleeve.

It was clear Melanie was just trying to provoke me.

Tucker, as always, defended Melanie. He said to me, "Shirley, there are plenty of other niches. Pick another one.

Melanie was really close to Stella. Just let her have it."

I thought, "With all these empty niches around, why should I have to give up?"

"Tucker," I challenged, locking eyes with him, "Are our daughter's ashes really less important to you than a hamster's?"

"What?" Tucker was stunned.

"Shirley, what's your problem? It's just a niche. Are you seriously making jokes about your daughter's life?" Melanie jumped at the chance to accuse me.

Tucker's face turned colder. He glared at me and snapped, "If anything had happened to Jasmine, Logan would have told me.

You're just trying to pick a fight with Melanie, even cursing Jasmine.

You're just here to cause trouble, right?"

It was ironic. The bond Tucker and I had from childhood couldn't withstand a single word from Melanie.

But that figured. Trust between me and Tucker had eroded long ago.

"Tucker, look at her. How could she stoop so low? She grabbed some dirt, pretending it's ashes, just to insult our Stella," Melanie whined, managing to squeeze out a few tears and playing the victim.

"Relax," Tucker assured her. "Stella's urn will go into niche 99. That's settled."

Tucker always sided with Melanie over me, and this time was no exception. He charged over in a rage, snatched the urn from the abbot, and tried to smash it on the ground.

"No!" I rushed over to stop him, trying to get the urn back, but Tucker pushed me down with ease.

The urn hit the floor with a thud, scattering ashes into the air.
