Chapter 1

I was with Zack for five years, and he never once considered marrying me.

Three months ago, he broke up with me and immediately married my best friend.

When my best friend was four months pregnant, they started planning their wedding.

After I received the invitation, I immediately bought a fake six-month pregnancy belly online.

At the wedding, I wore a fake pregnant belly, put on a maternity dress, and made a grand entrance holding Zack's father's arm.

Zack was extremely shocked. I sneered at him and said, "What's the matter? Disappointed that you didn't manage to kill your father?"

After picking up Zack's new suit from the clothing store, I went straight to the hotel where we were getting engaged.

Zack said he was very busy at work and had no time to take care of any of the engagement arrangements.

Deep down, I knew he never wanted to marry me. Being with me was simply due to pressure from his father.

Nathan, Zack's father, took a liking to me from the moment he first saw me five years ago. Once he learned about my secret love for Zack, he made it clear that the Lawson family would only accept me as his daughter-in-law.

I didn't blame Zack for being perfunctory with me. I thought as long as he was willing to let me stay by his side, one day I would be able to warm his heart.

The engagement hotel was my choice. As I approached the door of the private room, I noticed it was slightly ajar.

I looked through the crack in the door and saw a fair-skinned woman in a bathrobe sitting on Zack's laps.

The woman's hands were wrapped around his neck, and they were kissing each other passionately.

Zack's eyes were half-closed, clearly enjoying the moment, while his hands wandered over the woman's body.

My heart seemed to be gripped by someone in an instant and it hurt so much.

He had never kissed me like that. Even though we had engaged in more intimate acts, he had never kissed me.

He always regarded kissing as a sacred act reserved for those in love.

I stood there stiffly, unable to move.

Even though I knew he was often having affairs with other girls, I still couldn't remain calm when I witnessed it with my own eyes.

Is this what he was busy with? Making out with another woman in our engagement private room?

My heart turned completely cold. Not only did he not love me, he didn't even have the basic respect for me.

I had spent five years by his side, and perhaps it was time for me to wake up and stop demeaning myself any further.

I held the suit in my arms, ready to sneak away to preserve some dignity for both of us.

At this moment, the woman in his arms turned her head. Even though the light was dim, the woman's hair was messy and her face was flushed, I still recognized her at a glance.

It was my best friend, Sarah Xavier.
