Chapter 3

Scarlett strode over to my suitcase and picked up a bracelet I'd bought for 800 thousand dollars.

Inside the suitcase were two things of immense importance to me. A confidential document and a box of life-saving medicine for my mother.

Given her current rage, I feared she might do something utterly insane.

"Scarlett, please don't touch my things!" I pleaded, my voice trembling.

Without a word, Scarlett turned with a sinister smile, raising her hand and smashing the bracelet onto the floor.

It shattered into a million sparkling fragments.

My heart ached as I clenched my teeth.

She sneered, saying, "Your things?

"If you hadn't latched onto my Logan and deceived him, he wouldn't have bought you all this fancy stuff.

"Logan is my husband. His stuff is mine, so everything here belongs to me!"

I didn't want to argue with her. Logan had been living off me for years.

I said, "These things are expensive. I spent a lot of money to get them. If you want them, take them, but it's a shame they're broken."

Scarlett's anger seemed to be triggered anew.

"You think I'm going to accept your cast-offs? You think I'm some kind of trash collector?

"With Logan as mine, I can have any good thing I want. Why would I care about your junk?"

Yet her entourage's eyes showed they were eager for what they could get.

"You seem to cherish these items. Did you forget what I just said about destroying everything you care about?"

Scarlett crouched down, grabbing what was left of my hair and forcing me to look up.

Blood from my reopened wounds blurred my vision.

"Girls, smash those two boxes of jewelry!

"Aunt Alice, don't you need 300 thousand dollars for my cousin's engagement? That's nothing. I'll cover it.

"Aunt Lisa, Logan and I are thinking of getting a new car. We'll let my cousin practice with the old one. Even though it's an old one, we've only had it for two years.

"Ladies, I won't let you work for nothing. See these gold bricks? The harder you smash, the more gold bricks you'll get."

As she spoke, Scarlett gestured, and her friends lunged at my suitcase like they were on a caffeine high. They shoved and jostled each other to get to it.

Scarlett flashed me a triumphant grin.

"Bitch, open your eyes wide and watch how we destroy everything you worked so hard to get.

"Today, I'm going to make you regret ever trying to steal my man.

"Smash, and smash hard!"

The room was soon filled with the clattering of broken jewelry.

The sound of destruction echoed, with priceless items—watches, artwork, designer bags, high-end cosmetics—shattered and scattered like a battlefield.

My heart felt like it was bleeding, and my anger made my eyes bloodshot.

"Scarlett, you bunch of idiots, do you even know the value of these things?

"You could bankrupt yourselves and still not pay it all back!"

Scarlett only laughed coldly. "Look at you, acting like you could still buy these things once Logan is out of the picture.

"I'm smashing my own stuff. Why are you getting so worked up?

"But seeing you brought down a peg and in distress, I'm feeling a lot better."

Scarlett seemed to have found her sweet spot.

Her eyes scanned the wreckage, and then, with a smirk, she picked up a document folder from the debris.

I widened my eyes in panic, my voice trembling. "Scarlett, don't touch that folder. It contains crucial information.

"If I lose my job, it's one thing, but you'll be in for trouble you can't shake off."

Scarlett's eyes lit up with interest, and she exchanged knowing glances with her entourage.

Scarlett said, her voice dripping with mockery, "You're so anxious, huh?

"Well, I have to take a look then."

I shouted, "No, Scarlett, don't open it. You'll regret it if you do."

"Still trying to threaten me? Now I really want to see what's inside."

Carelessly, Scarlett ripped off the folder's seal. As she looked at the contents, her entourage's faces turned pale.

"What language is this? It looks like symbols. I don't recognize any of it."

"And there's a photo of someone. Look pretty fierce."

"This must be really important to this woman. How about we leak it online? Someone's bounds to recognize it."

"Yeah, Scarlett has thousands of followers. Surely, a kind-hearted online translator will help."

I struggled to shout out again.

"Scarlett! Don't post it. If you do, you'll really regret it."

Ignoring my pleas, Scarlett followed her friends' advice and took a photo of the document before posting it on a short video platform.

As her friends cheered and celebrated, I let out a small, victorious smirk.

These fools had no idea their arrogance had just set off a major disaster.

When they glanced over at me, I quickly put on a look of feigned panic.

"Look at her. Her face went completely pale."

"Ha! Serves her right for being a mistress. She's getting what she deserves."

"She said we'd get into trouble. Maybe she's the one worried about her own mess, not wanting Scarlett to post it."

Suddenly, Scarlett's eyes fell on a box on my nightstand.

"Oh, what's this? It's packed in such a fancy anti-collision box."

She picked it up and shook it vigorously.

My heart leaped into my throat.

Inside that box was the medication my mother needed to treat her ALS.
