Chapter 4

I had to fly to Mandiey for work to investigate a few things and ended up getting that document.

Later, I traveled through the whole Erope to secure a new drug for my mother.

According to the latest clinical trials, this drug could reverse the ongoing degeneration of motor neurons, treating ALS and significantly improving the patient's quality of life.

It was my hope for her survival.

But this drug wasn't something one could just buy with money.

To get it, I had to leverage my connections and expertise to retrieve a certain individual.

That individual was now exposed online by these fools.

Scarlett opened the box to reveal twenty-four ampoules neatly arranged inside.

She pulled one out and shook it in front of her.

"What's this stuff?"

Someone muttered, "It looks like medication."

I held my breath, staring intently at them.

Scarlett, eyes darting around, held the drug up to my face.

"What illness does your mom have? Something about cold or frozen?

"Is this for treating your mom's condition?"

Scratching my fingers across the carpet, I tried to stay calm. "It's just a common immune-boosting drug."

"Really?"

Scarlett scrutinized me closely.

"Oops..."

She tossed the ampoule onto a pile of shattered pieces.

The glass shattered, and the liquid spilled out instantly.

My heart felt like it had shattered along with it.

Scarlett exaggeratedly covered her mouth. "Oh no, what a mess! It slipped. I didn't do it on purpose."

She grabbed another ampoule and began tossing it up and down in her hand.

Each vial was more valuable than any collectible.

My emotions were on a rollercoaster, and I could barely contain my rage.

"Scarlett! You're going too far!"

With a crash, another vial shattered.

"Oh, you startled me earlier. My hand got a little shaky. I really didn't mean to drop it."

The tears welled up uncontrollably as my nose grew painfully sensitive.

At my distress, Scarlett's smirk widened.

"You seem really concerned about these drugs. They must be for your poor, dying mother."

I dropped my gaze, pleading, "Scarlett, I can overlook everything that happened before. Just please, give me back the medication, okay?"

Scarlett paused, considering. "Give it back, huh?

"Sure, I can return it. But only if you bark like a dog first."

The box contained a three-course supply, and using it as prescribed was crucial for its effectiveness.

With Scarlett deliberately smashing two vials, the drug's efficacy was already compromised.

I couldn't let her destroy any more.

"Go on, you raise a dog, so you must know how to make a dog bark, right?" Scarlett mocked, pointing at Happy, who had been growling and showing his teeth at them.

I said, "Scarlett, didn't Logan tell you about my background? I'm a highly skilled lawyer.

"Your little mob attack and the destruction of my personal valuables is a serious legal offense. I could have you all thrown in jail.

"But, if you return the remaining medication and leave the room, I'll let it slide."

I hoped that revealing my true identity would make them wary, but instead, they exchanged glances and burst into laughter.

"A mistress who pleases men for a living is claiming to be a top lawyer? Hilarious."

"Do you believe it?"

"Not for a second."

"Do you believe it?"

"Of course not. A top lawyer wouldn't have time to be a mistress. They'd be too busy with their work and too rich to even consider it."

I retorted, "If you don't believe me, you can have Logan come face me in person."

Scarlett, fuming with rage, smashed the third vial of medication against the wall and then slapped me hard across the face.

"Still trying to use Logan to threaten me, huh?

"Stubborn bitch!"

She picked up a fourth vial, raising it high, preparing to throw it.

She asked, "Are you gonna bark or not?!"

My hope finally shattered.

Scarlett was nothing but a stubborn lunatic, completely deaf to reason.

I had to placate her now and deal with her later.

Suppressing my fury, I begged, "Please, don't smash it. I'll do it, I'll bark..."

Scarlett pulled back her hand, a smug grin spreading across her face as she looked down at me triumphantly.

For the sake of my mother's life-saving medication, I dropped to the floor, swallowing my pride.

With deep humiliation, I began. "Woof, woof, woof, woof woof..."

Growing up without a father and with a disabled mother, I was branded an "illegitimate child" and faced bullying and harassment.

Yet, it was nothing compared to the degradation I felt now.

Looking up at Scarlett with a heart full of sorrow, I pleaded, "Can I have the medication back now?"
