Chapter 4

He pulled me to the corridor, found some ice and carefully applied it to my face.

I lowered my head and murmured, "I didn't push her..."

"Yeah." He responded lightly, neither getting angry nor asking any further questions.

I know him too well, this silence is the biggest denial.

If he believed in me, he would definitely argue for me.

If you don’t believe it, just keep silent.

But if you don’t believe it, why are you so gentle to me?

My tears welled up and fell on the back of his hand one by one.

He pulled his hand back as if he was burned and stood up. "If you want to see Sophie and the child suffer here, go back first."

I grabbed the corner of his clothes in panic, crying unconsciously, "Just trust me this time, okay?"

He sighed deeply and pried open my fingers one by one, as if he was completely disappointed. "Audrey, I can ignore what you did. Who made me love you? But at least, you should be honest with me."

A familiar cell phone ringtone suddenly sounded. It was Sophie's exclusive ringtone, "How far do I have to go before I can get into your heart? How long do I have to go before I can get close to you..."

I once asked him, "Is it appropriate to set a special ringtone for female colleagues?"

He was very puzzled, "The little girl likes this song, I just did it for the sake of convenience, don't think too much about it."

Watch him pick up the phone and leave without looking back.

I sat on the bench, half of my face was red and swollen, and suddenly I started crying and laughing, like a patient with an incurable disease.

He said he would be honest, but did he do that?

I went back to get my luggage and was about to go back to my parents' house, but then they called me via video.

Dad covered his chest, pointed his finger at me, and cursed.

"The Pierce family said that you went to the hospital and went crazy, and hurt a little girl who had just given birth. What were you thinking? The hospital director is your father's friend. Why did you send a message to the group to ask us what happened? You have brought shame to our Moore family!"

Dad started panting heavily again while talking. Mom was busy feeding him medicine and turned to glare at me.

"Alexander has explained it clearly. He and the girl are colleagues. You have to go to such lengths to force them together, don't you?"

Glancing at the wound on my face, he sneered, “You deserve it!”

"What did I do wrong that you all want to blame me?" I took a deep breath and said hoarsely, "Why would you rather trust others than me?"

"What should we believe in you? Just tell me!" the parents said in unison.

Looking at their expressionless faces, I suddenly lost my temper and said, "Forget it."

I hung up the video in a hurry.

I can’t let them see my tears again, or else I’ll get asked, “What else can you do besides crying?”

At this moment, I didn’t even know where I could go.

My phone suddenly vibrated. It was a message from Liam Carter:

"Audrey, when will I be able to take the top position?"

"Now."

Without any hesitation, I replied to him immediately.

The man who had the lowest GPA in the grade became a different person in his senior year and insisted on getting into the same university as me.

What followed was several years of crazy pursuit, a hundred confessions, and I rejected him a hundred times.

Who would like Was at the bottom of the class, who is even more useless than Struggled academically?

Even if he looks sunny and handsome, and his smile makes your heart skip a beat, it won’t work.

After graduating from college, Alexander and I got together.

He went to study in Switzerland, but the news never stopped.

From daily inquiries about each other’s well-being, to sharing of daily trivia, to asking “when can I take the top spot” every few days.

I never responded, but he was like a tireless robot who never gave up.
