Chapter 2

Alexander was obviously startled, and then showed a painful expression.

"I didn't expect you to be so cruel. If this is a condition for marriage, then we are indeed not the same kind of people... Let's break up."

"Sister Audrey, Brother Alexander is innocent, don't take your anger out on him!" Sophie suddenly burst into tears, "If you want to blame someone, blame me. I can't bear to leave my child... but I will die now to prove our innocence!"

Before she finished her words, she rushed to the balcony and pretended to flip out.

My heart instantly rose to my throat and I subconsciously rushed over.

Alexander had already panicked and quickly chased after him.

But before we could get close, Sophie collapsed on the ground, crying and gasping for breath.

Alexander pulled her into his arms, his whole body trembling.

After a long while, he raised his head and looked at me with cold eyes. "Audrey! Your unwarranted slander almost killed Sophie!"

His eyes were cold, as if he was looking at a stranger.

"She's just a little girl and pregnant. You can just stand by and watch, but I can't." His voice was trembling.

After saying that, he carefully picked up Sophie and held her sideways, walked in front of me and said sternly, "Get out of the way!"

I froze in place and opened my mouth, "I didn't mean to..."

"Brother Alexander, the baby seems to be coming out." Sophie suddenly moaned weakly and then fainted.

"Sophie!"

Alexander's face turned pale instantly. He pushed me away who was blocking his way and rushed out the door holding Sophie in his arms.

I fell to the ground, biting my lips hard, but I couldn't suppress the chill in my heart.

I stayed awake until dawn, and my phone finally lit up with a message from Alexander:

"I was too anxious last night and spoke too harshly."

"Audrey, I'm sorry."

My nose felt sore and tears welled up instantly.

Over the years, every time we had a fight, he was the one who bowed his head first, and I would take the opportunity to forgive him.

But this time it's different.

I will never be able to get over this hurdle.

Before I could reply, he sent me another photo.

It's a photo of him and his newborn baby.

The tiny baby was held carefully in his arms, and he looked down at the child with eyes as gentle as spring water.

"Sophie was born prematurely, but fortunately both mother and daughter are safe."

"The baby looks a lot like me."

"She has no relatives, so I have to take care of her in the hospital for three days."

"Let's postpone the wedding for a week. I really can't take care of so many things right now."

These seemingly ordinary words, every word, pierced my heart.

I stood up numbly, tore off the wedding characters on the wall one by one, picked up a pair of scissors and cut the wedding dress into pieces.

My fingers were shaking uncontrollably as I packed my luggage.

As soon as I put on the suitcase, Mrs. Pierce pushed the door open and walked in, her face full of joy.

"Alexander asked me to bring him some clothes to the hospital. As a grandmother, I was also anxious to see my granddaughter."

Seeing that I didn't say anything, she took my arm affectionately and said, "Audrey, Alexander was wrong this time. He shouldn't have hidden the sperm donation from you and hurt your reputation. But it's not an unforgivable thing after all, right?"

"Auntie knows that you two have a deep relationship. How can you break up because of such a small matter? Let's not take the angry words you said in the group yesterday seriously."

"Come on, come with me to the hospital to see the child. Let's give Alexander a way out and put this matter behind us."

She dragged me away like a zombie, and when I came to my senses, I was already standing at the door of the ward.

Sophie lay weakly on the hospital bed, with tear marks on her pale face. It was obvious that she had suffered a lot during childbirth.
