After Being Forced to Marry an old man, I was Reborn
Chapter 1
My sister, Sarah Eisenhower, was an outstanding manipulator.
In the hearts of all men, she was the epitome of purity and elegance.
She said, "I saw Catherine kissing an old man in a car last night."
My fiancé believed her completely and broke off our engagement on the spot.
She said, "Catherine has been dumped and is no longer pure. Only Mr. Lawson wouldn't mind her being unchaste."
My father immediately married me to Dave Lawson, an old man who was married three times.
The old man enjoyed torturing women. In my previous life, I died in his bed, my body rotting before the neighbors found me.
When I opened my eyes again, I returned to the day my younger sister slandered me.
She appeared weak and pitiful and hesitated before saying, "I saw my Catherine..."
I said, "Your eyes are not telescopes.
"Accusing people without even bothering to get Lasik surgery? Sarah, do you know what you were saying?"
"Where were you at eight o'clock last night, Catherine?" Sarah's voice rang in my ears
I shivered all over and suddenly came back to my senses.
Looking around at the furnishings, I realized I was in the Eisenhower Villa. But wasn't I dead?
"Catherine, Raymond has been so good to you. How could you betray him?"
Sarah wiped her tears and accused me.
Clearly, she was reporting that I had cheated on Raymond.
But her acting made anyone who didn't know the truth think that she was the one being wronged.
Raymond Daniel, to whom I was engaged since childhood, saw her tears and immediately felt distressed.
He opened his arms, pulled her into his embrace, and softly comforted, "Don't cry, Sarah. Don't hurt your eyes."
Watching the familiar yet ridiculous scene, I realized—I had been reborn.
I was back to the day when Raymond Daniel's family came to propose marriage with gifts.
In my previous life, I had just been brought back from the countryside by the Eisenhower family. I was introverted at that time.
When I unexpectedly saw Raymond's handsome appearance, my heart fluttered.
But I knew that during the years I was sent to the countryside to recuperate, Raymond and Sarah were childhood sweethearts.
They grew up together.
I didn't want to upset Sarah and asked her several times if she liked Raymond.
She always shook her head at me. "Catherine, you've been in the countryside for twenty years. Now you can finally marry into the Daniel family and enjoy life. How could I compete with you?
"You country folks haven't had good food or seen good men, so you'd treat anything ordinary as treasure.
"Catherine, if you like Raymond, marry him. Anyway, I don't like him."
Raymond was tall with handsome features, and always had a pleasant fragrance, indeed the best man I had seen at the time.
After hearing Sarah's words, I felt a bit shy but confirmed that she didn't want him.
When my parents asked me if I was willing, I nodded shyly.
But I never expected Sarah would deliberately embarrass me when the Daniel family came to propose.
That day, Sarah sat among a group of adults, looking helpless, yet biting her lip and acting righteously.
"Raymond, I shouldn't say this, but it's too much for Catherine to sneak out at night and kiss an old man while being engaged to you..."
On one side was the childhood sweetheart who would feel heartache even for an ant she stepped on.
On the other side was me, a country bumpkin who had been in the city for less than ten days.
Raymond chose to believe Sarah without hesitation.
He didn't even want to hear my explanation, picked up the gifts his family brought, and threw them at me.
"I want to break off the engagement! A promiscuous woman like you would be divorced eventually, so let's end it now."
My parents turned pale. My mother scolded me for disgracing the Eisenhower family.
My father locked me in the basement, saying, "You won't come out until you confess who the adulterer is, even if you starve."
But there was no adulterer!
The basement was full of insects and rats. I was locked up for three days. When I came out, I was not in good shape.
But now, I'd been reborn.
Clearing my throat, I met Sarah's secretly observing gaze and smiled.
"Dear sister, I'm still sitting here, and you're already hugging your brother-in-law.
"If you like him so much, why don't you marry him?"
