Accidentally Pregnant by the Alpha Chapter 1
It was a crisp Saturday morning. The sun rose brightly, but the cool breeze in the air gave a refreshing contrast. In the bustling Amber Stone Pack, I lived in one of the grandest estates—the Oakley Mansion. Not because I was a member of the prestigious Oakley family, but because I worked as one of their maids.
My name is Dorothy Hunt—an Omega, a maid, an orphan, and still, somehow, a wolfless she-wolf. With those titles, many would think my life is one of misfortune, but I choose not to see it that way. I still find reasons to be content and happy. Besides, I have a job, a warm bed to sleep in, and decent food to eat. And unlike how things used to be for lower-ranking wolves, the Oakley family has been kind to us, treating us with respect.
As I swept the second-floor hallway of the mansion, Serena Oakley—the only daughter of the family—bounced toward me with excitement. She snatched the broom from my hands and set it aside, her eyes gleaming.
"Come on! Let’s go check out the festival booths! They’ve started selling gowns and accessories for the yearly mating ball. I want to find you the perfect gown!" She gushed, bursting with enthusiasm.
I smiled softly, shaking my head. “Serena, I’ve got a lot of work to finish. And besides, I can’t afford anything from those booths.”
She pouted dramatically. “Don’t be such a killjoy, Dorothy. I’ll ask the other maids to cover for you, and I’ll pay for the gown.”
“You know you can't keep paying for my things,” I protested gently. “Yes, we’re friends, but you’re still the daughter of my employer. And honestly, I don’t think I even want to attend the mating ball.”
Serena rolled her eyes in annoyance. “Ugh, so you just want to stay mateless forever? Don’t you want to at least try? Maybe even share a kiss with someone?”
I laughed, shaking my head. “That’s crazy—”
She interrupted me, determined. “No, you’re crazy! You’re coming with me, and we’re getting you a gown. You’ll go to the mating ball, and that’s final! No buts!”
Serena then grabbed my hand and dragged me down the grand staircase toward the mansion’s front doors. But just as we were about to step outside, her mother appeared, raising a curious eyebrow.
“And where do you think you’re going?” She asked, her gaze shifting between us.
“Mom, can I take Dorothy with me instead of my security? We’re just running errands. I promise we’ll be careful! Please, mommy?” Serena begged, her eyes wide with exaggerated innocence.
To my surprise, her mother smiled softly and nodded. “Alright, but be back before dark.”
As soon as we passed through the mansion doors, Serena squeezed my hand and winked playfully. I couldn’t help but smile, shaking my head at her antics. What a silly heiress.
Serena and I had been close ever since I started working at the mansion. Perhaps it was because we were the same age, or maybe because she had no siblings. Despite the differences in our social status, Serena never seemed to care. She once told me it was my attitude she admired, and from that point, she treated me as her equal—eventually, as a sister.
A short while later, our horse-drawn carriage arrived at the town square. The streets were alive with activity—the air filled with the enticing aromas of food stalls, the vibrant colors of gowns and fabrics on display, and the chatter of townsfolk hurrying about their business. I’ve always loved coming here. It felt like an escape from the chaos of life, a brief relief from everything weighing me down.
As we walked deeper into the bustling market, a few pack members recognized Serena. She was well-known in Amber Stone Pack, and most mateless wolves dream of being her mate. For she-wolves, they admire her beauty and social standing. A few of them politely asked for a picture, and Serena, ever the gracious woman, happily obliged. Afterward, we resumed our stroll through the busy streets.
“This is exciting, isn’t it?” Serena asked, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
“It really is. Thank you for bringing me here every now and then,” I replied gratefully.
“You deserve this, Dorothy. Now, let’s find the perfect gown for you! And don’t hold back—choose the one you love, okay?” Serena insisted, pulling me toward the rows of booths.
We wandered through the market, admiring the elegant gowns on display. They were stunning, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of wonder, imagining what it would be like to wear something so beautiful. Serena made me try on several gowns, and eventually, we settled on one called the “Frost Gown.” It was breathtaking, with shades of pale blue, silver, and white, cascading through its layers like a frozen mist.
“This gown is absolutely gorgeous, Serena. Don’t you think you’ve spent too much on it?” I asked, still in awe.
“It doesn’t matter,” She said with a playful wink. “I want you to look your best that night, okay?”
After a few hours of shopping, we also picked out a pair of heels and some accessories. By the time we were finished, it was already five in the afternoon, and we were both carrying an armful of bags. Despite the weight of the purchases, we laughed and chatted all the way back to the horse carriage, feeling lighthearted and content.
Once we settled inside, Serena suddenly tapped my lap excitedly, her face lit up with a playful grin. She giggled and pointed toward someone across the street. When I looked, I immediately realized why she acted that way.
Whom she saw was Evan Teal, the young Alpha of our pack.
