Your Midsummer's Fervor for Me
Chapter 4
"Eda, come to the company as soon as possible. There's a case where the client specifically requested you to handle it."
I was immersed in my memories when a phone call from my immediate superior brought me back to reality.
After graduating from university, I joined Glory Company and worked hard for several years, and now I was the head of the PR Department.
To be honest, even I was surprised.
Back then, I was just a silent little girl. And now, I was a professional PR manager who was so confident.
But what surprised me even more was that the client who specifically requested me was Dale.
"Ms. Dolton, I can't do it."
"Eda, this case is the headquarters' test for you. I am about to retire soon.
"Do it well, and you'll be the one responsible for the North American region.
"I hope you can take over my shift."
My immediate superior, Mabel Dolton, left me no choice.
She was implying that if I did it well, she'd strongly recommend me for the position.
If I failed, I wouldn't have another chance to be promoted in the next few years.
I accepted this case because I had no choice.
Less than two hours after agreeing, I regretted it.
Because it was Dale himself who coordinated with me on this case.
I had imagined countless scenes and ways of meeting again after we broke up.
Perhaps we'd meet at Dale's concert or a gathering with college classmates.
But I never expected it to happen at the negotiating table.
To be honest, I was really looking forward to meeting him again.
"Hello, Mr. Cook, I am Eda Cantrell, the head of Glory Company's PR Department.
"I will be responsible for communicating with you from now on.
"Can you tell me what your requirements are?"
"I want you to get back together with me."
I thought Dale would be straightforward, but I didn't expect him to be so straightforward.
But he was Dale, which made it make sense.
He had been straightforward and sincere since high school.
"Mr. Cook, this is a workplace."
"How about we talk somewhere else?"
"Dale!
"Don't say anything unrelated to work again.
"Or I will immediately apply to withdraw from this case."
Dale was immediately silenced by my scolding, just like a Samoyed being scolded by its owner, blushing and not speaking.
I opened the prepared materials and started reporting.
I had already organized the main points discussed by netizens.
They wanted to know whether Dale plagiarized.
They wanted to know who was the song really for.
They wanted to know whether Dale was announcing his relationship with Ruby by liking her tweet.
I hadn't told him the way of dealing with the situation.
He had already started to explain incessantly.
"I didn't plagiarize. He's trying to smear me.
"I wrote it for my beloved, Eda.
"Announcing what? She's trying to piggyback me."
"Then why did you like her tweet?"
"It was a slip of the hand!
"I was going to send her a DM, warning her to stop.
"I accidentally liked her tweet.
"I wanted to unlike it, but the netizens had already found out."
Dale's voice became smaller and smaller as he spoke as if he were a child who had done something wrong.
"What do you need us to do for you?"
"I don't care what they say about me.
"I just want you to get back together with me."
"Why should I?
"It was you who wanted to break up in the first place, and now you want to get back together?
"What do you think I am, Dale? Am I just for fun?"
Dale was scolded by me so harshly that he couldn't say a word, and his face turned red as he picked his fingers.
I thought Dale would change, but he was still childish.
Whenever he did something wrong, he still picked his fingers and didn't say anything.
"I will apply to change the person in charge of your case. This way, please."
I stood up and was about to leave. Seeing that I was really mad, Dale immediately got up and came over to hold my hand.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'll stop.
"I really need you. It's really a big deal.
"Everyone in the studio is busy handling refunds and has no time to do public relations for me.
"All the netizens are scolding me."
"I will get the best legal team we have for you."
After saying that, I opened the door and walked out, leaving Dale standing in situ in a daze.
Five minutes later, I asked an intern to take Dale out of the meeting room.
The intern had been inside for a long time, and I had been staring at the meeting room in the distance.
Half an hour later, Dale walked out of the meeting room with a smile on his face.
As soon as he left the company, I received a friend request on my WhatsApp.
