You Shine Much Less Than the Stars

I washed, lay on the bed in the guest room, and then received a WhatsApp message from Joey Dixon, a senior schoolmate of mine.

[This project is very suitable for you. You have previous experience as a foreign doctor. You are experienced, calm, and able to deal with emergencies, so we are looking forward to having you on board. But we also know about your relationship with your fiancé, so we want you to think about it.]

Joey immediately called me, "I'm so glad! We need you. By joining us, you will be contributing to the country."

"Thank you, Joey. Don't worry." I could tell Joey was genuinely happy for me.

I didn't wanna tell Cedric I was gonna work with Joey.

After Joey hung up the phone, he sent me a bunch of recent related materials. I was shocked as I read them. It turned out that during the time I had not been involved in the project, a lot of data had been updated so fast.

However, all I cared about was Cedric.

My life was all about Cedric. I was busy with his daily life, and I even cooked for him. But he said I was useless and was nothing compared to Lisa.

I wanted to use the remaining time to consolidate my expertise.

I limped to open the door for him.

He wanted to blame me, but when he saw my leg, he suddenly felt guilty. "When ...did you come back? Why didn't you answer my calls?"

"I put my phone on silent mode," I glanced at my phone and said, coming up with a random excuse.

Cedric looked at me and suddenly questioned me, "Do you know how worried I was?"

"I came back by myself, didn't I? I couldn't just wait there till you came and picked me up. Don't you think?" ignoring Cedric's impatience, I spoke.

He was stunned by what I said, and then he looked at my leg. "Is your leg better now?"

"Thanks to the fast arrival of the rescue plane, otherwise I might have had to amputate," I smiled indifferently.

I was already hurt.

Feeling guilty, he said to me, "It happened suddenly that day, and Lisa had a heart condition, so I took her away first. If I had known how serious your situation was, I definitely wouldn't have..."

"I know. Anything else?" I interrupted his confession.

My time was precious right now, and I didn't have time to listen to him confess all the time. What was the point of making promises and then breaking them?

I knew so well. Even if he saw my leg at that time, the only one he wanted to take away was Lisa.

But he was not satisfied with what I said and tried to argue with me, saying, "I know you are angry, but she has a hereditary disease after all. Don't be so sarcastic."

"I am not being sarcastic. I am also a doctor, so of course, I know how easy it is for her congenital disease to recur. I don't blame you. I understand," I interrupted his speculation. It was so tiring to talk to him about this kind of thing.

I stopped him from saying anything and asked him to leave.

"I'm not used to having someone next to me right now. Given my condition, I think I'll sleep in the guest room from now on."

After saying that, I pushed Cedric out of the door without caring about what he was thinking.

I was limping, so he wanted to support me, but I dodged away.

Then I closed the door, leaving him finding it hard to believe.

After a little while, I heard him cursing outside the door. Although his voice was not loud, I knew what he was talking about.
