Chapter 5

Seeing that I used to make time to talk to her every day no matter how busy I was, but I hadn't called her for a few days, Heidi finally realized that I might be serious and condescended to give me a call.

In the two years of our marriage, she rarely called me on her own initiative.

But as soon as she opened her mouth, it was an interrogation.

"Cornel, you said you would love me forever when we got married. It's only been two years, and are you already impatient?"

I didn't know how she had the audacity to say such words.

"I do love you, but you were the one who first gave up on this love."

"I didn't. I was just too lonely. You only care about making money and don't come back to accompany me. I just wanted someone to talk to. Is that too much?"

Heidi continued to argue on the phone.

Even at this point, she still showed no remorse.

She blamed all the responsibility on me.

But why didn't she think about why I had to work so hard to earn money?

I only told relatives and friends that I lost money in my investments, and never mentioned that it was because of her.

Now was it my fault?

A sense of powerlessness surged up in my heart, and what was forced would eventually be lost.

I told her not to contact me for anything other than divorce.

Heidi cried and made a scene on the phone, and I hung up directly.

After drafting the agreement, I called a courier to send it to her.

I hung up all the calls she made to me afterwards, and I didn't reply any messages she sent to me.

My mother said that Heidi had changed recently, buying them gifts every day and taking them out to eat. She asked if we had a fight and told me not to be angry with her. After all, I begged for the marriage in the first place.

Now she knew how to please, but it was too late.

I didn't mention her affair, afraid of stimulating them.

I only said that I had a sense of propriety, and my mother sighed and hung up the phone.

Heidi showed kindness through my mother.

Unfortunately, I didn't accept apologies for this principled issue.

I was in the process of completing the final handover procedures when my assistant knocked on the door and said Heidi was here.

I thought she was bringing the agreement, so I asked someone to let her in.

As soon as she entered, she rushed over and hugged me. I pried her hands apart and gestured for my assistant to leave and close the door.

"Did you bring the agreement? Let's set a time to get the divorce certificate."

"I'm not divorcing. Cornel, you can't treat me like this."

"I won't accept a wife who cheats."

"Believe me, I really didn't do it. Anyway, I won't sign it. You can't get rid of me."

After saying that, she ran out.

I really didn't understand what she was thinking.

Apart from the house, I gave her half of my propety. I believe I had not treated her unfairly in any way.

Besides, by divorcing me, she could marry her money-making boyfriend.

However, I didn't have time to think about it. I went to the branch office in the morning to handle my employment.

The leader was very kind and gave me a few days off to rest.

Taking this opportunity, I called Heidi and told her that I would handle the divorce matter when I went home this afternoon.

When I arrived home, the house was filled with people, which caught me off guard.

All of them were Heidi's relatives.

"Cornel, what can't you and Heidi have a talk? Why do you have to get divorced? You said you would love Heidi for a lifetime. That's why I agreed to your proposal."

Heidi's mother earnestly persuaded me.

Her relatives also criticized me in a clamor of voices.

"When chasing, men will say all sorts of sweet words, but once they get the girl, they would start to complain. A person should not lack conscience."

This was Heidi's eldest sister.

"Cornel, you should give up. If Heidi divorces and comes back home, she won't have a place to stay."

Heidi's younger brother, with his legs crossed, tried to persuade me, hoping to soften my heart.

"Anyway, we don't agree to the divorce. When you got married, we didn't mind that you were poor. Now that you're doing well, you want to abandon her. Don't even think about it."

This was Heidi's grandmother.

"Alright, invite us to a fancy restaurant and apologize in person. Then this matter will be considered settled."

Heidi's father made the final decision.

When saying these words, they deliberately left the door open.

There was a crowd of neighbors gathered at the door to watch the excitement.

This was forcing me to submit!

I sneered. Since Heidi didn't want face anymore, I would fulfill her wish.
