When I Died, My Wife Was Hugging Her First Love and Kissing Passionately Chapter 1
On Saturday, I took my daughter on a trip to the countryside, only to end up getting kidnapped.
The kidnappers wanted ransom money and used my phone to call my wife, Lina Lynch.
But no matter how often they tried, she wouldn’t pick up.
Frustrated, the kidnappers started cursing under their breath. There were three of them, each more vicious than the last. The leader, a burly guy with a mean streak, kicked me hard and snarled, “I’ll call one last time. If your wife doesn’t answer, we’ll kill you both.”
I glanced at my four-year-old daughter, Daisy, tied up next to me, her eyes brimming with tears. Panic surged through me. “Please, don’t scare her. She’s just a kid,” I begged, my voice shaky. “You can try calling again. Maybe she didn’t hear the phone, but I swear once she picks up, she’ll send the money.”
The leader grunted and dialed again on my phone. Finally, on the third attempt, the call went through.
He motioned for me to speak, and I quickly yelled into the phone, “Lina, Daisy, and I have been kidnapped! Write down the account number and send them the money!”
But before I could even finish, Lina’s voice exploded on the other end, laced with anger.
“Richard, how low can you get? Faking a kidnapping to scam money out of your own wife? I must’ve been cursed to marry such a worthless loser!”
“Lina, I’m not lying! We’re really being held hostage. They want a ransom, and Daisy’s terrified! Please, take this seriously!”
But Lina wasn’t having it. She kept shouting insults, convinced this was some elaborate ploy. Desperate, I turned to the kidnappers for help. The leader, seething with rage, grabbed the phone and bellowed, “Cut the crap, lady! Either you pay up, or we’ll kill them both!”
“Yeah, no money, no more husband or daughter for you,” one of the other kidnappers chimed in.
I thought for sure this time Lina would finally believe me. But to my shock, she let out a cold laugh. “Oh, you’ve really outdone yourself this time, Richard. Now you're roping in your idiot friends to scam me. Go ahead, let them kill you. I’d be better off without you.”
I was frantic, furious, and shouted into the phone, “Lina, have you lost your mind? Daisy and I are actually being kidnapped! You…”
Before I could finish, the line went dead.
The kidnappers exchanged glances, cursing foully under their breath, and I could see them getting ready to follow through on their threats. They actually looked like they were going to kill us.
In my desperation, I begged them to call Lina again. They wanted the money, so they reluctantly tried once more. To my relief, the phone rang and got picked up again. My heart raced with hope. I prayed Lina would believe me this time.
But instead of Lina’s voice, a man’s voice came through.
“Richard, no matter what you say, Lina will never believe you. You might as well die out there, so I can be with Lina for good. We’ll live happily ever after. Hahaha...”
The voice belonged to Porter Duran, Lina’s first love. Six years ago, he ditched Lina after hooking up with a wealthy older woman.
I never thought he’d come crawling back, and even worse, that Lina would fall for him all over again.
For the past three months, Lina had gone from being a devoted wife and mother to completely neglecting both me and Daisy, all thanks to Porter’s return.
I was filled with rage, but what could I do in this situation? The reality was crushing, and I felt powerless.
Suddenly, I thought of my sister. Maybe she could help. I wanted to ask the kidnappers to call her instead, but before I could say anything, one of them reached for Daisy.
“Such a young girl. What a shame if she died,” one of them sneered.
“Yeah,” another chimed in. “No money, no choice but to kill her.”
As the kidnappers snarled and threatened, the leader even reached out and pinched Daisy’s cheek. Rage boiled inside me, and I struggled against my bonds, shouting, “She’s just a little girl! If any of you had even a shred of humanity, you’d leave her alone!”
Daisy burst into tears, sobbing and calling out for me to save her. Hearing her desperate cries, my heart felt like it was being torn apart.
I begged them to spare her, but they had no mercy. One of them even drew a knife and started to trace the blade along Daisy’s face.
My hands were tied behind my back, but ever since we were captured, I had been quietly working to free myself. Maybe it was the surge of fatherly instinct, or maybe just pure desperation, but somehow, I finally managed to loosen the ropes.
Spotting an old wooden chair nearby, I didn’t hesitate. I grabbed it and swung it with all my strength at the kidnappers.
Being a grown man, I had enough force behind me to knock them down. They weren’t expecting it, and with cries of pain and curses, they fell back. Dropping the chair, I scooped up Daisy in my arms and bolted for the door.
Even when a sharp, searing pain tore through my back, I didn’t stop. I just kept running.
I don’t know how long I ran, but eventually, my legs gave out. Exhausted and gasping for air, I realized that, against all odds, the kidnappers hadn’t chased us.
I gently set Daisy down on the ground and reached back to feel the source of the pain. My fingers came away wet with blood.
A knife wound, deep, and soaking my entire back with blood. We were in some kind of abandoned demolition zone, not a soul in sight.
The sky was growing darker, and I had no strength left to continue. Daisy saw the blood on me and began to cry again, terrified.
“Daddy, Daddy, I’m scared! Please don’t die, Daddy, please…” she sobbed.
Hearing her small, helpless voice broke me, but I forced a weak smile and said, “Daisy, sweetie, Daddy’s not gonna die. Daddy’s just… very, very tired. You’re such a brave girl, Daisy. When Daddy falls asleep, you have to walk toward the light, okay? Can you do that for me?”
I tried to lift my hand to wipe away her tears, but my strength was failing me.
As the pain took over, I felt my body getting lighter and lighter. And then, to my shock, I realized I was floating.
And there was my Daisy, clinging to my lifeless body, crying.
“Daddy, please wake up... Daisy’s scared... please...” she sobbed.
Night had fully fallen, and the darkness was so thick I could barely see a thing. Watching my daughter, so small and helpless, broke my heart into pieces.
I wanted so badly to comfort her, but when I tried to descend back to the ground and reach out to hold her, I was horrified to find that I couldn’t touch her at all.
I whispered, “It’s okay, sweetheart, Daddy’s right here, you don’t have to be scared.” But Daisy couldn’t hear me. My voice was nothing but a silent echo.
It hit me, at that moment, with crushing certainty that I was dead. What remained was just my helpless soul, unable to even comfort my own daughter.
Daisy cried until exhaustion took over, and then, unbelievably, she fell asleep, lying on top of my cold body.
The early spring night was still chilly, and I was terrified she’d freeze. But no matter what I tried, she couldn’t feel me. I was invisible, powerless.
There was no phone, no one in sight. After struggling with what to do, I made a painful decision. I had to go home. Surely, if Lina realized we hadn’t returned this late, she’d start looking for us. She had to.
But I was wrong. When I finally struggled my way through the front door, the sight that greeted me was Porter, kissing Lina passionately on the couch.
The scene filled me with a fury I hadn’t known I was capable of. I screamed at them, desperate, wanting to throw something, break everything, but I was powerless.
I couldn’t touch a thing, couldn’t make a sound they could hear. All I could do was seethe in helpless rage.
In my mind, I kept seeing Daisy, lost, scared, in the middle of nowhere. I tried again to call out to Lina, to shake her out of this madness. “Lina, stop this! Daisy’s out there suffering! She’s your daughter. Don’t you care at all that she hasn’t come home?”
But no matter how loud I shouted, it was like I didn’t exist. Lina and Porter were still wrapped up in each other, completely unaware.
Porter, not satisfied with just kissing, let his hands roam, sliding down Lina’s back.
She must have noticed because she grabbed his hand, her breath ragged as she whispered, “Stop. I’m still married. What if Richard comes back? I don’t want him to hurt you.”
Porter laughed, a sneer in his voice. “Lina, don’t you remember? Richard’s busy pretending to be kidnapped. There’s no way he’s coming back tonight.”
That smug, self-satisfied grin of his sent me into a fresh wave of anger. Lina, at the mention of “kidnapping,” scoffed, disgust dripping from her words. “Just thinking about it makes me sick. It’s bad enough he’s worthless, but to team up with others to try and con me out of money? What a joke.”
“So why bother being faithful to him? Lina, you know I’m the only one who truly loves you,” Porter cooed, pulling her under him.
At first, Lina resisted, but it wasn’t long before she gave in to his advances, lost in whatever twisted thing they called love.
Watching this vile scene unfold, I couldn’t help but laugh bitterly.
Worthless, huh?
Lina’s words hit me harder than any wound I’d suffered that day. They cut straight to my heart, leaving it cold and shattered.
Six years ago, Lina was dumped by Porter. One night, she got so drunk she was completely out of it and ended up being harassed by a group of men on the street. I took a huge risk to rescue her and ended up getting hurt in the process.
In gratitude, Lina stayed with me in the hospital for an entire day and night. As we grew closer, she did everything she could to win me over, trying to heal her broken heart.
I was moved by her determination, and eventually, we started dating and got married.
When Daisy was born, Lina didn’t want to quit her job, so we hired a nanny. But Daisy kept coming home with bruises. It wasn’t until I secretly set up a camera that I found out the nanny was abusing her.
We switched nannies, but the new one was just as bad and even made Daisy seriously ill.
I suggested Lina quit her job to care for Daisy, but she chose her career over our child. With no other choice, I resigned to take care of Daisy myself.
I had a decent job, a position at the bank that my sister had helped me get through her connections.
When I quit, she chewed me out, and our relationship was damaged.
Years of handling the child, cooking, and managing all the household chores, and yet, to Lina, all my efforts meant nothing.
Lina and Porter were still on the sofa, wrapped up in each other. To my horror, Porter was kissing every inch of Lina with his foul mouth. The whole scene was disgusting, and the trembling sounds coming from Lina made me feel like a complete fool.
I used to think Lina was just tired from work when she was indifferent during our intimate moments, so I never pushed the issue. But now it was clear: it wasn’t about me. It was just the wrong person.
Their stamina was something else. They spent two hours on the sofa and then moved to the bed, where they kept at it until it was nearly morning.
I was frantic about Daisy, so I floated back to where my body lay. To my dismay, Daisy was nowhere to be found. My bloody corpse lay alone on the floor.
I hoped Daisy had followed my advice and headed towards the light.
I floated to a well-lit area nearby, searching everywhere, but there was no sign of her.
By late morning, around nine o’clock, with no trace of Daisy, I had no choice but to go back home.
I hoped Lina would be awake by now and, noticing Daisy was missing, would start looking for her.
When I drifted back into the house, Lina had just woken up. Still in her pajamas, she came out of the bedroom, glanced at the clock, and muttered angrily, “Damn it, I finally have a weekend to spend with Daisy, and now she’s gone. Richard, you’re such a piece of work.”
As she cursed, Lina picked up her phone to call me. Seeing that my phone was with the kidnappers, I felt a spark of hope. If she was trying to call, she must sense something’s wrong.
But when she dialed, my phone showed as turned off.
Lina’s face fell as she realized my phone was off. Since we’d met and married, I’d always kept my phone on for her.
“Damn it, something must have happened,” Lina muttered, about to call again, when Porter appeared and snatched the phone from her.
He tossed the phone onto the sofa, wrapped his arms around Lina, and gave her a quick kiss, saying, “Sweetheart, I’m starving. I’d love some of your cooking.”
Lina, who had hardly cooked in five years of marriage, was completely won over by Porter’s charm. She quickly forgot about Daisy and went to the kitchen to cook.
Porter hugged her closely while she cooked, and their intimacy was almost sickening to watch.
I was numb with frustration, just hoping Lina would remember Daisy. Once she realized her daughter was missing, she’d have to call the police.
I waited through their meal and their time together. Just when I thought Lina might finally remember Daisy, she reached for her phone again, only for Porter to snatch it away.
“Sweetheart, have you forgotten how he tricked you yesterday? You’re not seriously going to call him, are you?”
Porter said with a mocking grin, hiding the phone behind his back.
Lina, surprisingly calm, said playfully, “Alright, whatever you say. I’m all yours now.”
They went off to take a shower together, and after getting dressed, headed out for a shopping spree.
The Audi they drove was a car I’d bought for Lina with all my savings two years ago.
At the mall, I thought Porter would finally buy Lina a gift. Instead, Lina was the one spending money. She dropped 5,000 dollars on a high-end outfit for Porter and over 20 thousand dollars on a new iPhone for him.
I was livid. My old phone had been with me for three years. I’d been trying to convince Lina to let me upgrade, but she’d always said it wasn’t necessary.
Yet here she was, throwing thousands of dollars at Porter without a second thought. “Lina, you’re disgusting, spending money on someone else while you’re cheating,” I shouted, but it was pointless. They didn’t know I was there.
After their shopping spree, they went to a fancy restaurant. By the time they finished, it was almost dark.
I tried my best to ignore them and their reckless behavior, hoping Lina wouldn’t be so heartless as to forget about our child.
While I anxiously waited, Lina’s phone dinged with a WeChat message. Distracted from her flirtations with Porter, she pushed him away and checked her phone.
Her face went white when she read the message. She tossed the phone aside and hurriedly started getting dressed.
Porter picked up the phone, his expression darkening as he read.
I peered over and saw the message was from me.
[Lina, don’t think I don’t know you’re with Porter. I’m divorcing you. Don’t expect to keep the house, the car, or our daughter.]
Could this be some twisted form of justice?
But then I realized that the phone was with the kidnappers. This was probably one of their schemes.
“I told you Richard wasn’t a good guy,” Porter said, adding fuel to the fire. “You insisted he was good to you and the kid. Look at him now. He’s using every trick in the book to take everything from you.”
“Exactly,” Porter said. “So, sweetheart, you need to transfer the house, the car, and the savings quickly.”
Lina asked where to transfer them. Porter said to put the house and car in his name and move the savings to his account temporarily. He promised he’d return everything once the divorce was finalized.
I was stunned. Even if Lina was naïve, surely she wouldn’t fall for this.
