Chapter 2

As I walked out of the restaurant, the rain had intensified.

"Don't stand at the entrance of our restaurant!"

I heard someone reprimand me from behind.

So I ran into the pouring rain.

The rain was so strong that I could hardly open my eyes. I finally moved to the side of the road, then I realized that the scooter I had parked there was gone.

Suddenly, a loud thunderclap echoed through the sky.

The rain seemed to be getting heavier.

After searching for half an hour in the rain, I eventually gave up. I found a corridor in an abandoned square, and huddled there to escape the rain.

My phone started ringing.

"Paige, what's wrong with you? How many times have I told you to lock the doors and windows before leaving home?

"I don't even want you to compensate for my losses. Come back quickly, pack your things, and move out today!

"It's not like I'm trying to make things difficult for you, but this illness of yours... You could die anytime.

"You should also understand our situation as landlords, right?"

The landlord rambled on, then abruptly hung up the phone.

"I did lock them. It was clearly because the window was too old and had been blown open by the wind..."

I muttered to the disconnected phone.

As I stood on the bridge, Xavier's cold and distant face appeared in my mind again.

I stared in a daze at the tall building in a hazy drizzle in the distance. The big words "The Xenos Group" came into my sight through the rain and mist.

Suddenly, there was a sound of a car braking came from behind me.

Along with it, there was another piercing sound of tires rubbing against the ground.

"Are you trying to get yourself killed? Why are you braking so suddenly on the bridge?"

I turned around and saw two unexpected people.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry."

While apologizing, Wendy opened the trunk, took out a triangular warning sign and placed it behind the car, then walked towards me.

Xavier held a black umbrella above Wendy's head.

"What are you doing standing on the bridge alone on such a rainy day?"

His gaze turned towards me.

The rain mist was dense, and it felt like my vision was covered by a veil and I couldn't see his expression.

"I was walking home and happened to come across this bridge..."

I suddenly felt a warm sensation on my arm. Perhaps I had been too absorbed in staring at Xavier that I hadn't noticed Wendy silently approaching me from the side.

"Xavier, I caught her!"

"Good."

Good? What did he mean by "good"?

What were they planning to do?

Were they going to Kill me? But I didn't do anything!

They each took hold of one of my arms and forcefully pushed me into the Maybach.

"What are you going to do to me?" I asked in a trembling voice as the cold air conditioning in the car made me shiver.
