Chapter 5

The cell door clanged shut behind me, the sound echoing in the silver-lined dungeon that would be my tomb. I sank to the cold floor, my body still aching from Alistair's brutal display of dominance. The Luna insignia he'd torn from my dress felt like a physical wound on my chest.

Hours passed in darkness. I traced the rough stone walls with trembling fingers, searching for any weakness, any escape. But silver lined every surface—the one element that could suppress a werewolf's strength and prevent shifting.

"Sarah."

The whisper came so softly I thought I'd imagined it. Then I heard it again, followed by the gentle scrape of metal against metal.

"Sarah, are you awake?"

I pressed my face to the small window in the door. "Raiden?"

The Gamma's familiar face appeared in the dim light, his expression grim but determined. Behind him lay the unconscious forms of my guards.

"I don't have much time," he whispered, working a small tool into the lock. "The Alpha's gone to celebrate with Azalea, but he'll check on you eventually."

"Why are you helping me?" I asked as the lock clicked open.

Raiden's eyes met mine, filled with a loyalty that made my throat tighten. "I served your father for ten years before coming to Silver Claw. He was the finest Alpha I've ever known."

He pushed open the door and handed me a small backpack. "Cash, a burner phone, and keys to a car parked half a mile from the eastern border. It's not much, but it's a start."

I clutched the bag to my chest, words failing me.

"Your father believed in you," Raiden continued, his voice barely audible. "Said you had more natural leadership than anyone he'd ever seen. Including himself."

He straightened then, and to my shock, he bowed deeply—the formal acknowledgment of a Gamma to his true Luna.

"Run, Sarah. Don't look back. And when you're ready..." He paused, his eyes hardening. "Come back and show them what a real Alpha looks like."

---

The forest blurred around me as I ran, my lungs burning with each desperate breath. The pack lands I'd once loved now seemed alien and hostile, every shadow hiding potential capture.

I'd been running for nearly an hour when I felt it—a sudden pressure in my mind, like fingers digging into my skull.

*Sarah.*

Alistair's voice crashed through our mate bond, making me stumble. He'd discovered my absence.

*Come back now.*

His Alpha Command hit me like a physical blow, but something had changed. The grief that had hollowed me out had crystallized into something harder, colder.

*You are MINE.*

"I am NOT yours," I snarled aloud, slamming a mental wall down between us.

Miles away, I felt Alistair stumble, his shock rippling through our bond. No one had ever defied him this way—especially not his Luna.

*I'll hunt you down,* he growled, his rage pulsing through the connection. *You'll regret this betrayal.*

"Betrayal?" I laughed bitterly as I sprinted toward the boundary line. "You stole my father's money. You let me lose our child. You chose her over me EVERY TIME."

I felt his fury building as I crossed the invisible line marking the territory's edge. The mate bond stretched painfully, but held—a tether I would one day sever completely.

His roar of rage echoed through the trees behind me, but I was already gone.

---

Three years later, I stood at the head of a sleek conference table in Manhattan, my reflection multiplied in the wall of windows behind me. New York's skyline stretched out like a kingdom at my feet.

"Peterson Logistics now controls seventy percent of the territorial supply routes for werewolf packs across the country," I said, my voice carrying the quiet authority I'd cultivated. "We've become the single largest distributor of wolfsbane antidotes, silver-resistant materials, and emergency provisions."

The board members nodded approvingly. None of them knew my true identity—the rejected Luna of Silver Claw Pack. To them, I was simply Sarah Peterson, the brilliant CEO who'd built an empire from nothing.

The door opened, and Victor Blackwood entered—tall, imposing, with the unmistakable presence of a Lycan Enforcer. His eyes, ancient and knowing, were the only ones that could see through my carefully constructed facade.

"The final paperwork," he said without preamble, placing a folder before me. "Once you sign, Peterson Logistics will officially own all outstanding debt of the Silver Claw Pack."

I opened the folder, scanning the legal documents that would give me control of Alistair's territory. My pen hovered over the signature line.

"Are you certain?" Victor asked quietly. "Once done, this cannot be undone."

I thought of my father's coffin, of my unborn child's blood on frozen Northern ground, of Azalea's triumphant smile as she destroyed everything I loved.

"I've been certain for three years," I replied, signing my name with a flourish.

As the ink dried, I felt something shift inside me—my wolf stirring with anticipation. Soon, we would return home. Not as victims seeking vengeance, but as conquerors claiming what was rightfully ours.

And Alistair would learn what happens when you break something that was never truly yours to begin with.
