Wedding Night: Seeing Through My Husband’s Plot
Chapter 1
On the wedding night, Harvey Dowding, my husband, left me and went to Claire Burke, his sweetheart.
A devastating earthquake struck later that night. My mother’s illness took a turn for the worse and might not survive the operation. When the hospital called and informed me of her condition, I was buried under the debris, badly injured. Left without other choice, I weakly called Harvey for help.
When he answered, I heard Claire's voice in the background.
"Harv, that annoying woman is bothering you again."
Amidst the joyful party atmosphere, Harvey coldly uttered, “What’s up? It must be some-thing important or I’ll hung up.”
I desperately begged him to go to the hospital to see my mother who was dying, but his voice was even colder than before as he spoke. "You have already married me as you wished, don't be too greedy. I’m in the middle of something. Figure it out yourself."
With that, he hung up on me.
I held the phone, feeling lost in the darkness.
So he refused to see my mom because he was at Claire’s party?
A loud noise brought me back to reality. I was hit by a massive object, my vision blurring.
——
I thought I was going to die.
I didn’t want to die.
I didn't want to miss my last-ever chance to see my mother.
I was two months pregnant, and I was about to lose the baby.
The most absurd part was that all of that was happening on my wedding day.
It didn’t come as a surprise to me that he had left me behind for Claire that night.
After all, Harvey had his own agenda when he pursued me.
Claire, who had grown up with him, suffered from hemophilia, and she and I shared the same blood type, the rare rh negative blood type.
He had chosen me as the blood bank for Claire.
Harvey fooled and hurt me, which I could let it go. But it was beyond my wildest imagi-nation that he remained indifferent when he learnt my mother’s dire situation.
Anguish seized me, and I heard ambulance sirens.
When I opened my eyes again, I was lying in a hospital bed.
There was a stinging pain on the back of my hand. I saw the needle and then the and blood bag.
And lying in the bed next to me was Claire.
I was giving her a transfusion again!
Why should I donate my blood to her?!
Fury washed over me. I removed the needle forcibly, causing blood to splatter.
The monitor made a piercing sound, and within a second, medical staff rushed in and pinned me down on the bed, reinserting the needle and rendering me immobile.
Harvey, clad in a sharp suit, entered the ward.
"Stop resisting. After the blood transfusion, I’ll have nutritious meals prepared for you. You were cool with it, weren’t you? Why the sudden anger?”
As he spoke, Harvey tried to caress my face to calm me down but I dodged his touch.
“Harvey, let go of me! My mom is gone. Our deal is over!” I roared.
I had agreed to donate my blood to Claire due to my mother’s illness.
But when Harvey had hung up on me, the hospital had informed me of my mother’s passing.
Nothing could hold me back now.
But faced with my outburst, Harvey seemed unfazed. With a disdainful sneer, he re-sponded, "Michelle, don't get wise. I know you mother’s condition. You can’t fool me.”
I was both amused and pissed by his words.
Harvey had only visited my mother dozens of times since she fell ill.
If he had reached the hospital after taking my call, he wouldn’t have said something like that.
Harvey interpreted my silence as a sign of concession. His tone softened as he spoke. “Don't you want to go on a honeymoon? When you recover, I’ll spend two days traveling abroad with you. And I can consider allowing you have my children.”
He made it sound like he was doing me a favor.
In the past, I would have been overjoyed, but now his offer didn’t mean anything to me.
I regarded him coldly and proposed, "Let's get a divorce."
