Wedding Day Betrayal & Revenge Chapter 1

I stood in the bridal suite of Seattle's most exclusive hotel, surrounded by a flurry of activity as my mother's friends—the elite of Seattle society—fussed over every detail of my appearance. My fingers trembled slightly as I adjusted my grandmother's diamond tiara, the weight of tradition and expectation heavy upon my head.

"Hold still, Angelina," Victoria murmured, her steady hands pinning the last strand of my updo in place. "You keep fidgeting with that ring."

I hadn't even realized I was twisting my engagement ring again—a nervous habit I'd developed over the past few months. The five-carat diamond caught the light, sending prisms dancing across the cream-colored walls.

"I'm just excited," I said, forcing a smile that didn't quite reach my eyes. "After all these years, Kane and I are finally making it official."

Victoria gave me a searching look. We'd been friends since childhood, and she knew me better than almost anyone. "Are you sure it's just excitement?"

"Of course." I smoothed down the custom Vera Wang gown that hugged my figure before flowing out in a dramatic train. "This marriage fulfills a sacred obligation between our families. And Kane... we've loved each other since we were children."

The words felt rehearsed, even to my own ears. But I pushed away the doubt. This was my destiny—to honor my grandfather's life debt to the Bennett family by uniting our bloodlines. Kane had promised me forever when we were just teenagers, whispering vows under the maple tree in my family's garden. I had to believe those promises still meant something.

My mother swept into the room, immaculate in her couture suit, her critical gaze assessing me from head to toe. "Perfect," she declared, though her eyes remained cold. "The Bennetts may not match our status, but at least you'll be a beautiful bride."

I swallowed hard, forcing back the hurt her words caused. Even on my wedding day, I was merely fulfilling a function—maintaining the Turner dynasty's obligations.

The cathedral was breathtaking—five hundred of Seattle's most influential people filled the pews, witness to the union of two powerful families. Fragrant white roses and lilies adorned every surface, their perfume almost overwhelming as I stood at the entrance, my father's arm linked with mine.

"Ready, Angelina?" he asked, his voice betraying no emotion.

I nodded, unable to speak past the knot in my throat. The wedding march began, and all eyes turned to me. I fixed my gaze on Kane, standing tall and handsome at the altar. His face was unreadable from this distance, but I clung to memories of his whispered promises: *I'll save myself for our wedding night, Angelina. You're the only one for me, forever.*

Step by step, I moved toward my future, the weight of my family's expectations pressing down on me with each footfall. The cathedral's soaring ceiling seemed to close in, the faces of the guests blurring into a sea of judgment and speculation.

I was halfway down the aisle when the heavy doors behind me burst open with a bang.

"Kane! Kane, please help me!"

The desperate female cry shattered the reverent silence. I turned to see Selah Holmes stumbling into the cathedral, her dress torn and makeup smeared with tears. Her dark hair was disheveled, and she swayed on her feet as though drugged.

"I was at a party—someone put something in my drink," she sobbed, her voice echoing through the stunned silence. "Kane, you're the only one I trust. Please help me!"

A collective gasp rippled through the guests. My heart froze as I turned back to Kane, silently pleading with him to stay, to honor this moment we'd been building toward our entire lives.

Without hesitation—without even a glance in my direction—Kane rushed past me down the aisle toward Selah. The cathedral erupted in shocked whispers as he gathered her into his arms.

"Kane," I called softly, my voice barely audible over the growing murmurs. "Perhaps we could finish the ceremony first? It would only take a few minutes, and then we can both help her."

He whirled on me, his face contorted with rage I'd never seen before. "How can you be so heartless?" he snarled. "This is an emergency! But all you care about is your perfect wedding!"

Before I could respond, he shoved me—hard. I stumbled backward, my heel catching in my train, and fell to the ground in a billow of white silk. Gasps and cries of alarm echoed through the cathedral as I sat there, humiliated before everyone who mattered in Seattle society.

"If you really loved me, you'd understand," Kane spat, before lifting Selah into his arms and carrying her toward the vestry room off the main chapel.

I remained frozen on the floor, unable to process what was happening. Then the sound system—set up to carry the minister's words to the back rows—crackled to life. Instead of vows, the cathedral filled with unmistakable sounds: passionate moans, whispered endearments, the rhythmic movements of betrayal.

Someone had left a microphone on in the vestry room.

Five hundred of Seattle's elite sat in stunned silence as my fiancé consummated his relationship with another woman on what should have been our wedding day.
