Chapter 1

I took the live-in nanny job just to pay off my mother’s medical debts, expecting a cold, impossible boss. Instead, I met a silent 5-year-old boy who refused to let any woman touch him—except he instantly buried his face in my shoulder and whispered "Mama". But my nightmare began when the CEO's fake, green-tea fiancée forced me to scrub toilets and threw my dignity into the drain. She thought I was a helpless nobody. She didn't know the scars on the boy's shoulder matched mine, and that the ruthless Alpha CEO who pinned me against the dark hallway wall was the exact same stranger I spent a forbidden night with five years ago. He locked me out, thinking I abandoned my child. Now, the truth is out, and the Alpha is burning down every obstacle to claim his true Luna. Watch how I make them pay!

POV: Claire

The marble hallway of Sterling Manor was cold enough to bite through my thin wool coat.

I stood near the grand staircase, smoothing down my simple dark slacks while two other women adjusted their designer blazers. They had spent the last twenty minutes sizing me up with undisguised contempt.

"Are you sure you didn't get lost on the way to the housekeeping department?" a woman named Vanessa asked, her voice dripping with amusement. "Mr. Sterling is looking for an elite governess with international credentials, not a charity case."

"My resume met the agency's standards," I replied evenly.

"Standards?" another applicant scoffed, checking her diamond-encrusted watch. "Five years of basic childcare doesn't qualify you to handle an heir. You're wasting your time."

Before I could answer, heavy footsteps echoed from the landing above.

The chatter died instantly.

Nathan Sterling descended the stairs. Tall, imposing, and dressed in a tailored charcoal suit, he carried an air of absolute authority that made the air in the foyer instantly thin. His sharp jaw was set in a rigid line, and his dark eyes swept over the four of us without a flicker of warmth.

"I don't have time for interviews," Nathan said, his voice deep and cutting through the silence like steel. "My five-year-old son, Noah, locked himself in the nursery three days ago. He refuses to eat, refuses to speak, and will not open the door."

He paused at the foot of the stairs, clasping his hands behind his back.

"I don't care about your degrees, your references, or your pedigrees," Nathan continued coldly. "The rules are simple. Whoever gets my son to walk out of that room on his own gets the job. The rest of you leave immediately."

Vanessa stepped forward at once, flashing a polished smile. "Leave it to me, Mr. Sterling. Children respond very well to structure and incentive."

We followed Nathan up to the third floor, stopping outside a heavy oak door at the end of the corridor. The silence coming from inside the room was absolute.

Vanessa took the lead. She produced a high-end tablet loaded with interactive learning games and tapped loudly on the wood.

"Noah, sweetie?" she called in a syrupy, theatrical tone. "Look what I brought for you! It's the newest educational tablet. Open the door and we can play together!"

Nothing happened.

Vanessa's smile tightened. She knocked harder. "Noah, young man, it's very rude to ignore your guests. Open up right now."

A sharp thump struck the other side of the wood, followed by the sound of something plastic shattering against the floor.

Vanessa jumped back, flustered and red-faced.

The second applicant stepped up, holding out a box of imported artisanal chocolates. She spoke through the keyhole, alternating between sweet promises and stern warnings about bedtime rules. Her coaxing only earned a dead bolt sliding into place with a definitive click.

Nathan checked his watch, his brow furrowing with growing irritation. "Useless."

I didn't step forward with grand promises. Instead, I looked down at the threshold.

Near the doorframe lay a small, worn wooden toy car. One of its rear wheels had snapped off its tiny metal axle, resting an inch away on the plush rug. Noah must have dropped it before barricading himself inside.

I walked over and sat down directly on the floor, crossing my legs beside the doorframe.

"What does she think she's doing?" Vanessa whispered behind me. "Is she going to take a nap?"

Ignoring them, I pulled a small metal hairpin and an ordinary ink pen from my bag. I picked up the broken toy car and the loose wooden wheel.

I didn't knock. I didn't raise my voice. I didn't ask Noah to come out.

Instead, I used the straight end of the pin to clean the lint out of the axle groove. Working in calm, steady motions, I wedged the tiny wheel back onto the pin, testing the spin with my thumb.

"Just a loose pin," I said softly, speaking to the air rather than the door. "The left wheel got stuck on the carpet. It just needed to be straightened out so it wouldn't wobble."

I placed the little car onto the polished floorboards near the door and rolled it forward. The wheels glided smoothly, making a soft, rhythmic hum as it traveled three feet down the hall.

For ten seconds, the entire floor was dead silent.

Then, from inside the nursery, came the faint sound of small, hesitant footsteps.

A lock clicked.

The heavy oak door slowly cracked open an inch.

Two enormous, dark eyes peered through the gap, shadowed by unruly brown hair. Noah stared down at the fixed toy car on the floor, his lower lip trembling slightly. He was pale and far too small for five years old, clad in an oversized sweater that swallowed his tiny frame.

I didn't lunge for the door or try to force it open. I simply smiled, keeping my hands resting in my lap.

"It rolls straight now," I told him gently.

Noah looked up from the car, his gaze locking onto mine.

A sudden, strange pressure flared beneath my skin. My chest tightened with an intense, inexplicable tug, like an invisible thread pulling straight from my pulse toward the small boy in the doorway. It stirred deep inside my veins—a dormant, biological resonance from my hidden wolf lineage that I hadn't felt in five long years.

Noah's eyes widened. He seemed to feel it too.

Without a word, the boy pushed the door open another few inches. In his small, trembling hand, he held out a miniature wooden airplane with a broken wing.

He didn't hand it to his father. He didn't look at the other women. He extended it directly toward me.

I reached out and gently took the plane from his fingers. "I can fix the wing too, but I need my mini screwdriver from my coat pocket."

Noah stared at me for another second. Then, breaking every expectation, his small bare feet stepped right across the threshold into the hallway.

Vanessa gasped. Nathan froze, his eyes locked onto his son in stunned disbelief.

Noah didn't stop at the doorway. He walked straight toward me, reached out his little arms, and pressed his small hands against my knees.

I set the broken toy aside and lifted him into my arms.

The moment Noah's small body settled against my chest, an overwhelming wave of heat and warmth rushed through my blood. My wolf instincts surged, wrapping around him with fierce, instinctive protectiveness.

Noah didn't pull away. He buried his small face straight into the curve of my neck and shoulder, gripping my sweater with his tiny fists.

"Stay," he whispered, his voice tiny and hoarse from days of silence. "Please stay."

My throat tightened, emotion rising so fast it nearly choked me. I wrapped my arms around him securely, resting my chin against his soft hair. "I'm right here. I'm not going anywhere."

Nathan stood motionless, staring at the child who had refused to let even his own father touch him for weeks. The billionaire's cold expression shattered, replaced by raw shock.

"You two," Nathan said, not taking his eyes off us as he pointed toward Vanessa and the other woman. "Get out."

"Mr. Sterling, please—" Vanessa started.

"Leave," Nathan snapped, his voice brooking no argument. "Now."

The two women hurried toward the stairs without another word.

Nathan took a slow step toward us, his gaze intense and searching as he looked at me holding his son. "He hasn't let anyone hold him since the woman he knew as his mother died three years ago. What did you do?"

"I listened to what he needed," I answered quietly, gently rubbing Noah's back.

Nathan stared at me for a long moment before giving a single, decisive nod. "Your salary is double whatever the agency quoted. You start tonight."

By ten o'clock that evening, the grand manor had grown quiet.

Noah had refused to let anyone else feed him dinner, clinging to my hand until he finally agreed to take a warm bath before bed.

The nursery's en-suite bathroom was filled with warm steam. Noah sat in the shallow tub, happily splashing the water while I washed the shampoo from his dark curls with a soft cup. He was calm now, his small face relaxed for the first time in days.

"All done with your hair, Noah," I said with a smile, reaching for a fluffy towel. "Let's get you dried off so we can fix that airplane."

"Okay," he murmured obediently, standing up in the tub.

I wrapped the large towel around his small shoulders, gently patting his skin dry. As I smoothed the fabric down his back, the edge of the towel slipped aside, exposing his left shoulder blade under the bright vanity light.

I froze.

My hands went completely numb.

There, stamped clearly against his pale skin, was a distinct, dark birthmark. It was shaped perfectly like a howling wolf silhouette enclosed within an open crescent moon.

The air vanished from my lungs.

It wasn't just a birthmark. It was the ancient, hereditary bloodline crest unique exclusively to my family's pack lineage—a mark passed down directly from mother to child.

Five years ago, in a sterile clinic hundreds of miles away, the doctors had told me my newborn baby died within minutes of delivery. I had never even been allowed to hold him.

My heart slammed against my ribs with violent, suffocating force.

I stared at the boy in front of me, my hands trembling violently against the towel as tears burned the backs of my eyes.

*Noah isn't just Nathan's son.*

*He's mine.*
