Chapter 9

"Nikky, keep Lionel in mind," Leonard advised, motioning toward the car. Other warriors who boarded the cars followed him.

Turning to face my blood-related father, I said, "I know, please greet my father on my behalf. Lionel is my sole father." The audience let out gasps and murmurs when they heard what I said. The pack's werewolves looked at my biological father with regret and sympathy.

"You didn't do anything better, fools," I scoffed silently.

My biological family members tormented me, and instead of defending me, they made matters worse. Look at them now, pitifully watching my real father while showing him compassion. He hadn't earned it. The abrupt change in their demeanor made me chuckle on the inside. In fact, karma is a jerk who will follow you wherever you go, no matter how hard you try to hide.

I ignored their emotions and tapped Leonard's shoulders in front of me before asking him, 'Are you okay?' via mind-link.

I'm not sure why Leonard dislikes the bloodthirsty me. Sometimes I think it's because of his childhood or something related to it. However, he refuses to tell me, and I am afraid to ask.

Later on, he responded, also via mind-link, 'I am fine.' He then returned to stand next to me.

I nod slightly as I scan Leonard's face, then turn to face the Nightcrawler Pack members, staring directly into another man's obvious glare. Should I call him my ex-mate or my friend? Samson, you're a jerk.

'Leonard, you lead from here,' I said across our mind-link, not wanting to say anything else. I didn't want any more bothers. Furthermore, having dried blood on your clothes is not a good look for anyone.

Leonard bowed and looked Samson in the eyes before saying, "Please make room for my commander and me, Alpha Samson. We needed to rest. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated." Samson nodded before turning to face me, possibly hoping I'd start talking.

It made me pause for a few seconds before I began laughing at him in my head. His ignorance generates a lot of laughter. He quickly shifted his gaze, giving the impression of being perplexed, confused... Serenity's presence temporarily disrupted the Alpha's aura.

A half god will, of course, kill an alpha who challenges him. It would be foolish to try to coerce me into speaking with him, but Samson, unlike the first alpha, knew when to stop, and nearly died as a result.

Alpha Pio is a moron.

He was constantly looking for ways to exert control over me when I went to his pack for a rogue issue. I almost killed him when I couldn't take it any longer. He did not, however, die, and the elders forgave me despite their displeasure.

"Samson Alpha..."

Despite the fact that everyone was staring at me, my focus was on him. "I'm sure you don't want to end up like Pio," I said, glaring at him. The other pack members all turned to look at Samson when they realized what I was saying.

Almost every werewolf in the pack knew what had happened to Alpha Pio. His near-death experience became so well-known in society because it almost happened in my hands, the hands of the venerable Sanguinex.

Samson seemed taken aback by what I said.

'This stupid Alpha didn't seem to expect to be called out by me.' I pondered. I also told him not to challenge me. He wouldn't be doing me any favors by pushing me to my limits.

As I was about to leave my job, my blood mother tried her luck once more "Please, Nikky... Please contact me. Believe me when I say I'm your mother."

"Please don't make me repeat myself, ma'am. You and the other pack members would not be pleased if I lost my cool "I snarled, my gaze fixed on her. She flushed quickly as she swallowed her words.

"Your mother is telling you the truth. We're all related, Nikky. We are your extended family." A deep voice could be heard during the brief pause. I came to a halt before turning to face the person I recognized.

"Family," I said, my gaze fixed on the man. "Did I hear you correctly when you said we are family?" I went on.

It was Eris, my biological brother. He's still rocking that black hair and brown eyes that looked exactly mine way before my appearance changed. I am astonished that my blood mother recognized me, given that Cindy was the favorite since—as far as I can recall—she inherited her appearance.

Speaking of the bitch, she was also here. Cindy cast a smug glance at the latter as she stood tall with a mark on her neck. She seemed to be so proud, still the old Cindy that I know. I then turned to look at Eris, thinking, everything changed except for this brat. Still so arrogant and full of herself.

"How could you refer to me as your family?" I yelled. Eris was the one among them to whom I felt the closest. But after that night, he abandoned me without regret or compassion. He feigned every act of love he gave me.

I was mistaken about the only family love I have. They ought to love me despite the fact that I couldn't shift—but they didn't. They never did. Kindness is what sets apart my adopted family from my genetic relatives. I was unable to shift since I was weak, but Lionel, a stranger, assisted and gladly helped me.

"Whipping your blood sister is hardly family love," I said with a chilly smile. Then, I turned to face my biological mother, saying, "Slapping your daughter and letting her cry all alone in a dark and cold room is not what a mother should do." After that, I looked over at my real father, "A father should not ignore his last born daughter. A father should never mistreat her child." Then, to Cindy, "Throwing a glass mirror at your sister and constantly reminding her that she's worthless is not what an elder sister should do."

I paused and looked back over Eris. "Now tell me, Eris, or should I say, beta, is that what a family's definition is to you? Is that the right way a family should treat one member?" My eyes were fixated on him. Right now, he couldn't even utter a single word.

It took a few seconds for me to go. I didn't wait for his reply or watch the group's reaction. I am clinging on by a thread while Serenity wants to kill them.

"Leonard," I paused and looked across at him. The explanation for the reverberating gasps in the audience, I'm sure it was because of my blood-red eye. Serenity badly wants to take over.

I said, "I will leave to inspect the pack before I kill someone," and I walked away.
