Chapter 2

I pushed through the crowd and saw an elderly man lying in a pool of blood.

His black, old jacket was soaked with blood, his eyes wide open, his pale face bloodless.

Even one of his legs was twisted at an odd angle.

Someone had already called for an ambulance.

A voice in the crowd chilled me to the bone, "It was a white Porsche! It's a new car, not even registered yet. It hit someone and just ran away, a hit-and-run. Has the driver lost his mind?"

Trembling, I pulled out my phone, intending to call my brother to inquire about the situation.

But his call came first, commanding, "Where are you? Hurry up and come over. Take the car away! Your nephew drank and hit someone. If the police ask, say it was you driving!"

My mother also cried out from the other end, "Hurry up and come over. If David gets arrested, I don't want to live anymore! It's all your fault. Why did you buy such a car? If not for you, how could my grandson suffer such a calamity?"

My sister-in-law was furious, "Cathy, where are you? Our whole family is ruined because of you! Hurry up and come over. David has been drinking. Do you understand? If you don't come, he will go to jail!"

"Where are you guys?"

Learning that my nephew had parked the car just around the corner, I immediately ran over.

Seeing me, my parents, my brother and sister-in-law got out of the car.

Mom and sister-in-law's faces were full of tears, looking extremely worried.

"I told you, David shouldn't drive after drinking, but you wouldn't listen!"

My mother hung her head in silence.

My sister-in-law retorted aggressively, "What's the use of saying this now? I'm uneducated, but you, as his aunt, why didn't you stop him more firmly?"

I didn't stop him, did I?

Before I could argue, my brother yanked the trembling nephew from the driver's seat. He collapsed on the ground like a wet noodle, his eyes vacant.

My mom held him and sobbed pitifully.

The next second, my brother grabbed my collar and shoved me towards the driver's seat, "When the police arrive, say you were driving, that it was you who killed someone, got it? Don't know how many years you might get, so send me your bank card number and password. I'll take care of mom and dad, and you just go to jail in peace."
