Chapter 1

1

I finally finished decorating our new house and managed to move in on Christmas Eve.

In order to have a Christmas dinner with my family, I threw a housewarming party and invited my parents, my brother, Lucas Collins, and his wife, Cassy Jones.

My parents, especially my mother, Martha Green, were thrilled about this housewarming party. She felt that since this family dinner would be held in my place, she could relieve herself from making the cuisines all by herself.

When I first heard the reason why Martha was happy, I was stunned and felt a little uncomfortable.

In the past, on Christmas Eve, I would go home early to help her prepare the Christmas Eve dinner, but this time, she didn't feel like helping me at all.

But then, I comforted myself that nothing mattered more than making my parents happy.

Nevertheless, I didn't want to tire myself out, so I booked all the cuisines from a famous hotel.

The hotel delivered my order unexpectedly fast today.

Just as I put the food on the exquisite dinner plate, the doorbell rang.

My parents as well as Lucas and Cassy stood outside the door together without any gifts.

My mind went blank for a moment, because in the past, I would buy a lot of gifts when I went home, and then I blamed myself for being too calculating about my family.

"Come on, come in!" I said with an enthusiastic smile.

Cassy was the first to come in with her flat belly. She looked around as soon as she entered the door.

My parents and Lucas followed her cautiously.

"Well, Cassy, that's my bedroom."

I looked at her walking into my bedroom with a subconscious frown.

Hearing my notice, Cassy curled her lips and didn't stay any longer in my bedroom any more, going straight to the dining table to inspect.

"Look at these dishes. Do you think we can even be full with this small amount of food?" she asked with displeasure.

I tried hard to put on a smile and said, "Ten dishes and two bowls of soup should be enough for the five of us."

However, Cassy suddenly retorted me in a sharp tone, "My parents and brother will be here soon. Do you still think these dishes are still enough for all of us?"

I glanced at my parents and brother. Lucas gave me an apologetic look, while my parents pretended not to hear the little quarrel between Cassy and I and continued playing on their phones.

Seeing that I remained silent, Cassy yelled at Lucas, "Didn't I say that we would celebrate New Year's Eve with my family this year? Didn't you tell your sister? Just because I am married to you and pregnant, does that mean my family and I are not worth being respected?"

Lucas immediately comforted Cassy in a humble way before I could say anything...

His submissive face made my heart ache.

When he was a child, his entire neck and jaw were scalded by hot water while protecting me. Due to his scars, he couldn't get married until Cassy accepted his ugly appearance.

So, I quickly smoothed the atmosphere, saying, "It's all my fault, Cassy. I'm familiar with the manager of the White Sands Hotel nearby. I'll send them a message to order more dishes."

Maybe the famous White Sands Hotel satisfied her taste, and she stopped arguing.

I also breathed a sigh of relief.

All of a sudden, the doorbell rang.

Cassy, who looked cautious to protect her belly, jumped up and nimbly ran to the door before I could react to the doorbell.

"Mom, Dad! Come in!" She embraced her parents warmly like the hostess of this house.

Meanwhile, her dwarf brother, Peter Jones, followed behind her, appearing dirty, lecherous, and very annoying.

When my parents saw Cassy's parents coming, they stopped playing with their phones and stood up with an attitude of trying to please them.

Instead of greeting my parents, Cassy's parents looked around my house.

After a while, Cassy's mother, Sofia Turner, commented with a courtesy smile, "The house is quite big and suitable for Peter's wedding house."

I looked at her in disbelief.

Cassy responded to Sofia with a smile. "Yeah, and Mom, Stella has put on some weight recently. Look at her butt, she will definitely have a son."

I couldn't bear their offensive comments anymore and countered angrily, "Cassy, don't you think it's a little bit offensive to say something like that?"

Hearing I yelling at Cassy, my father, Adam Collins, suddenly turned visible and scolded me in my face, "Stella Collins, how can you talk to Cassy like that?"

She sneered, glanced at me, and said in a condescending tone, "I'll tell you something later."

As soon as she finished speaking, Martha came out and asked everyone to sit down. "It's Christmas Eve. Shall we start dinner?"

Cassy's parents looked at each other and sat down in the main seats. "These dishes are merely acceptable."

My parents also sat down by them. Martha echoed their comments and said, "Yeah, sorry. Stella should pay more attention to this dinner."

I felt so upset and miserable.

Lucas suddenly patted me on the shoulder and whispered in my ears, "Stella, don't embarrass me on Christmas Eve, okay?"

After hearing what my brother said, I forced myself to suppress my anger.

While Cassy's parents complained about the food, they directly gave the king crab to Peter and gave the legs of the roasted chicken to him, too.

Looking at the pile of delicious food in front of him, he couldn't help his saliva flowing all over his chest.

I couldn't help but turn my head and retched.

Adam rolled his eyes at me. I had the same impatience as him.

When I was little, he treated me like a little princess, but since I went to college, he started to be sarcastic and extremely irritable to me from time to time.

If Martha and Lucas didn't mediate between us, I would have been beaten to death by him long ago.

I really couldn't figure out what was happening.

"Let's toast to celebrate the first Christmas Eve of our two families becoming one!" Lucas raised his glass with a smile and toasted to everyone.

The others also raised their glasses, and finally, reluctantly, I did the same.

When we cheered, Peter grinned at me, which scared me so much that my hands shivered.

After Cassy put down her cup, she looked straight at me, and suddenly covered her mouth and smiled. "Yeah, you're right, darling."

I felt a little terrified when she stared at me but had to remain silent.

Without hearing my response, she elbowed Lucas.

But he just ate in silence.

Cassy was visibly anxious and cleared her throat to announce, "Stella, Lucas and I have decided to marry you to Peter."

Her words made me slam my fork on the table. I questioned her in rage, "Who gives you the right to decide who I should marry?"

Sneering, she said, "When I got married to your brother, I asked for no gifts. According to the tradition of my hometown, you have to marry my brother."

I threw the wine glass, and it fractured on the ground with a sharp sound.

"Cassy, after you two hold a wedding, I'll give you fifty thousand dollars as your wedding gift on behalf of Lucas!" I said.

She immediately screamed back. "Wedding gift? No, it's just compensation for my pregnancy before the wedding!"

Sofia suddenly interrupted our debate and said, "Look how impolite you are! I hope you'll know manners after marrying Peter!"

Her voice seemed to be a hidden order, and Adam slapped my face without hesitation.

My tears started flowing immediately.
