Chapter 1

Today was the day to return to the old house. Simon and I got up early and made preparations at home.

The driver had also been waiting outside for a while.

Throughout the drive, Simon seemed distracted, his eyes glued to his phone as if he were expecting an important call.

I chose to ignore him. I didn’t care where his mind was, as long as he came with me.

Even if his soul had flown away, it didn’t matter to me.

But fate wasn’t on my side.

As soon as Simon’s phone rang, I knew it had to be Cassandra Moore calling.

It seemed my plan to get Simon to come back to the old house with me was falling apart.

When he answered the call, Cassandra’s voice came through, full of feigned distress: “Simon, where are you? My stomach is acting up, and it’s so painful. I feel like I’m going to die.”

If she was going to die, she should just get on with it. Her voice sounded perfectly fine, not like someone on the brink of death.

It was ridiculous that she was an actress, yet her acting skills were so poor that only Simon would fall for it.

“Stay at home and wait for me. I’ll be there soon,” Simon said.

As soon as he hung up, Simon instructed the driver to turn around and head to Cassandra’s place.

I asked him coldly, “Simon, today is the day we’re supposed to go back to the old house. Do you know what the consequences of missing it will be?”

“I’ll deal with the consequences myself. Didn’t you hear Cass? She’s in a lot of pain. How can you be so cold-hearted? And you’re her sister.”

Simon spoke with a certain firmness, but after a moment of concern, he said, “Lena, go to the old house first and explain things to Grandma and the others. I’ll check on Cass and come to the old house as soon as I can.”

I couldn’t help but mutter a curse.

Cassandra might be a piece of work, but Simon is really something else!

Knowing there would be punishment, he still left me to go alone.

And as if that wasn’t enough, he pushed me out of the car and told me to find my own way back to the old house.

Simon, you’re truly something.

Fortunately, it wasn’t hard to find a taxi in this area. I managed to get one quickly.

Simon’s bravado about dealing with the consequences was laughable.

As the eldest grandson of the Lewis family, he’d never face the penalties himself.

It was always me who would suffer.

When I walked through the door, my mother-in-law’s gaze immediately fell on me. “Why did you come alone? Where’s Simon?”

“Cassandra’s stomach problem flared up, so he went to check on her. He’ll be here later,” I said honestly. It was impossible to hide the truth.

A loud slap echoed, and I felt a sharp sting on my face.

“Go upstairs and explain things to your grandma. I’ll deal with you first. It’s better than her taking it out on you later. Don’t blame me. Blame yourself for not keeping your man in line.”

“I understand. I’ll go upstairs.”

Simon had done many awful things before, but it was the first time he left me alone to deal with the return to the old house.

Cassandra would owe me for this, and sooner or later, I would make her pay back tenfold.

When I went upstairs, Grandma noticed the bruise on my face but said nothing more.

She only gave me a cold reminder to “make sure it doesn’t happen again” before sending me back downstairs.

As I went down, I received a text from Cassandra: [I told you Simon is only mine. You can’t win against me.]

I deleted it.

Let her laugh for now. She’ll have her turn to cry later.

She won in the last life. This life, it’s my turn.

Cassandra, I hope you can hold out a bit longer.

Otherwise, it won’t be fun.
