The Story Behind the Room without Air Conditioning
Chapter 9
On the way to the hospital, I timidly spoke to the staff, "Miss, I think my mother is mentally ill."
"Zoe, what do you mean?"
"Generally speaking, mothers always love their children very much, but my mother doesn't love me at all. Is it because she is mentally ill?"
The staff member then understood. She was stunned and quickly communicated with the man next to her.
"If the guardian has mental problems, then the child custody can naturally be transferred."
She paused for a while and added, "Also, I suspect she might be mentally ill. She turned on the gas to die with her husband. Does it prove she wants to commit suicide?"
As they were ready to help me submit the documents to the welfare house, I finally smiled.
When my neighbor called and briefly mentioned my parents' condition, I was disappointed that they only had minor injuries. But after meeting them, I found that they were much more serious than I imagined.
My mother's face was severely burned, and her body was covered with burns of varying degrees. As for my father, his arm was half burnt, and the skin on other parts of his body was gone.
Especially, if there was no skin to transplant, they would live with this scar for the rest of their lives.
Besides, the two jumped off the building to survive, so they had fractures of varying degrees.
Both of them were now lying on the bed, unable to move.
They looked weak while seeing me, but when my brother came, they were very excited.
The staff of the Child Protective Service quickly walked out and left my brother and me behind.
My mother couldn't speak clearly, but she still reminded me, "You... You must... take good care of... your brother."
"Zoe, Beth... Beth is... is the future heir... of the Floyd family. I'm... almost... dying now. You have to... take good care of him," my dad tried to persuade me.
I rolled my eyes at them and questioned coldly, "How shameless you are! He is your son, not mine. Why should I care about him?"
The couple was very angry. They didn't expect that I would utter such words. They pointed their fingers at me angrily.
"Do you want to say I'm your daughter? Yet, you never treated me as your own daughter. You always beat, scold, and ignore me at will. Everything now is retribution."
Feeling that it wasn’t enough, I leaned closer to them and whispered in their ears, "It was me who made that video. Do you like this surprise?"
Their faces changed drastically, and they wanted to jump up and slap me, but they couldn't move at all.
Instead, I slapped them with my hands. "How does it feel to be burned? How does it feel to jump off a building? You only jumped from the second floor, but I jumped from the eighteenth floor."
In my prior life, it was my mother who knocked me out and sent me to the hotel, which was 18 stories high. At that moment, I gritted my teeth and jumped down.
Now it was just a tit-for-tat, but I still thought it wasn't enough.
They didn't understand what I meant, so they just stared at me in anger.
"Hold on. If you die, what will happen to your precious son?"
"What... What do you want to do?"
I shook my head. "Nothing. I just want to piss you off to death."
Originally, I planned to cut off ties with them. As long as they lost custody of mine, they couldn't control me anymore. But now, I changed my mind. Seeing their current situation, I wasn't sure how long they could live. Such being the case, I could inherit property after they passed away.
So, I deliberately declined the invitation from the Child Protective Service staff. I insisted on staying in the hospital and taking care of my parents.
