Chapter 4

I stared at Ann in disbelief, holding back the words and frustration that filled me. In the end, I swallowed it all down and turned back to my room.

Even though I knew she was favoring Alex, I had no choice but to endure it.

I couldn't exactly yell at my mom, could I?

My family had always valued boys over girls. My parents always pampered Alex.

When he wanted something as a kid, they would do everything they could to fulfill his wishes.

As for me, they used to call me "worthless" until I started making money.

Then they changed their tune because they needed my financial support.

But even though the whole family relied on my money, I could still feel that Ann always favored Alex, no matter what.

"You see her attitude?" Ellie's constant yelling from downstairs.

But that was all that she could do.

I couldn't even be bothered to argue with her. But if she thought she could squeeze money out of me, she had another thing coming.

I figured after this, Ellie and the rest of them might change their behavior.

But I was being way too naïve.

One day, Ellie brought the whole family to the sales office of new houses, babbling about how great the place was.

It didn't take me long to figure out what was going on.

She was planning to buy a house and wanted me to pay for it.

"Myra, you don't like living with us, right? How about we buy a house here?" Ellie said, grabbing my hand.

Alex quickly chimed in, "Yeah, and once we buy it, we'll move out."

"If you want to buy it, go ahead. It has nothing to do with me," I replied with a cold smirk.

Ellie said, "How is it not your concern? We're family, aren't we?

"Ann, we already picked out a villa yesterday. If you like it, we can sign the contract today."

Wow, they really had an appetite.

I stared at her, speechless.

That villa had to cost at least seven million dollars. Did they really think I was made of money?

My mom replied, "Great, as long as you like it. Alex's really successful, buying me a villa."

She grinned from ear to ear.

"Alright then, since Ann agrees, let's go with this villa." Ellie was practically bursting with excitement.

Then she turned to me and said in a commanding tone, "Myra, I didn't bring enough money. Go pay for it first, and I'll reimburse you later."

Not only was she pushing her luck, but now she was asking for a ridiculous amount, as if I was some kind of walking ATM.

Seeing the look of entitlement on her face, I decided I wasn't going to put up with it anymore.

I said, "Ellie, you want to buy a house and expect me to pay for it? Do you think I'm out of my mind?"
