The Rogues Bargain

Caden walked ahead, his strides purposeful, exuding authority. His dark hair was tousled from the fight, and blood still streaked his face, but he didn’t seem to care. His focus was entirely on the task at hand and his mind.

Caden didn’t slow down as he led her through the compound. His pack members whispered as they passed, their hostility unmistakable.

"Is that her?" one voice muttered.

"A rogue? In our territory?" another spat.

"She’ll bring nothing but trouble," a third growled.

She was determined and would not let their stares or words get to her. She had survived worse.

Caden suddenly stopped in front of a large, imposing building at the center of the compound. He turned to her, his expression unreadable. "Inside," he said curtly. Wren hesitated for a few seconds, but then nodded and followed him in. The interior was brightly lit, with high ceilings and walls lined with old tapestries depicting battles and victories. It reeked of power and history.

Before either could say more, the door burst open, and a tall man with dark blond hair and sharp features stormed in. His eyes immediately locked onto Wren, narrowing in anger.

“Caden, what the hell is this?” he demanded. “You’ve brought a rogue into our pack?”

“Easy, Lucien,” Caden said, holding up a hand to calm him. “She’s under my protection now.”

“Protection?” Lucien scoffed, his voice filled with disbelief. “You think the elders will stand for this? They willsee it as a betrayal of everything we’ve built.”

“They will see it as survival,” Caden countered. “And unless you would like to challenge my decision, you’ll fall in line.”

Lucien’s jaw clenched, but he said nothing more. He shot Wren a glare that promised trouble before storming out of the room.

Wren watched him go, then turned back to Caden. “Seems like I’m already making friends.”

Caden gave her a humorless smile. “Welcome to Blackclaw.”

Caden further led her to a massive room at the end of the hall. Inside was an ancient wooden table surrounded by chairs. He ordered her to sit, but she remained standing, her arms crossed.

“I’m not here for pleasantries,” she made herself clear stating in a high voice. “Let’s get to the matter at hand.”

Caden raised an eyebrow, clearly he was dissatisfied by her defiance. “Suit yourself.” He leaned against the edge of the table, his piercing gaze locking onto hers. “You wanted a deal. I’ve given you temporary sanctuary. Now explain why I shouldn’t throw you back to the hunters the moment they are off my land.”

Wren met his stare head-on, her glare matching his. “Because I have something no one else has and will be willing to give even if they possess it”

Caden’s expression didn’t change, but she noticed the slight tilt of his head, a silent invitation to continue.

“I’ll be your Luna,” she said, her voice steady. Like I said before, “I will strengthen your pack, help you secure alliances. In return, you protect me from the rogue hunters and rival packs.”

Caden let out a low chuckle, the sound both amused and dangerous. “And what makes you think I need a rogue to strengthen my pack?”

“You don’t just need a Luna,” Wren shot back, stepping closer. “You need me.

The room fell into a tense silence.
